For anyone struggling with removal of spf apply hada labo oil cleanser on your dry face, rub around, splash face with water then apply a gentle second cleanse like the neutrogena sensitive one in the white bottle or their hydro boost cleanser and rinse off. Best combo I have found to get everything off without drying your skin out :)

For those looking for budget SPF that is also good as a moisturiser, try Soltan SPF 50 from Boots. The yellow tube is quite moisturising so you can use just that.

IT Cosmetics foundation (CC cream) is SPF 50, yes though, you can't rely on it for sun protection; you pay £31 for 32mls; it would run out in a week if you used it for sunscreen and that's if you left out your neck!

Just a note, in chemistry, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are considered "inorganic" compound, whereas the so-called chemical sunscreen ingredients, like avobenzone, are categorized as "organic" compound, which refers to those that contain carbon in covalent bonding.

Hi Caroline - You skipped over the melasma question a little bit, I work outside so will get the sun and heat on my skin eventually - but from what I gather Zinc/physical is the only way to go, as it repels the suns rays? Would you suggest the Dermalogica invisible SPF then? I think I may buy it, but £50 eek! I am also considering buying a mineral and a physical now. Thanks so much - I have so much trust in you! :) My melasma makes me so miserable, its cropped up this year already (UK based!!)

Hi Caroline. The last couple of years people are concearned about blue light protection. even though there should have been enoung blue light protection in our sunscreens anyways bc the sun was always there. it's just the screens that entered our lives recently. but getting to my point when people like me, acne proned, go and get facials, they get blue LED light soooooooooo close to their skin to help kill bacteria. is the blue led light coming from a lamp different from the blue light of the screen? and if they are different and we do need to protect the skin from our phones and screens, then what ingredients will protect us from blue light? anti oxidants? iron oxides? i'm clearly confused! thanks :)

I can't remember if it was Lab Muffin or Dr Dray who said that for sunscreens that don't list a PA rating, to determine the UVA protection level, you halve the SPF. So an SPF50 sunscreen would have a UVA protection factor of 25, where an SPF30 would be 15. And an SPF15.. 7.5?! Yeah I agree, why even bother! So from memory, the highest PA rating of ++++ means 16 and over, that is as high as it goes. So if a sunscreen says SPF50 PA++++, it could have a UVA protection factor of 16 or 25 and you wouldn't know. Bit annoying. So even though would be great to know what the UVA protection factor is, any SPF50 in Australia, where I live, is going to have a PA++++ equivalent rating, it just doesn't list it on the label. I really wish they would though! Especially as our testing is the among the most rigorous in the world. The more we know about protecting our skin, the better!
@naomipalmer42443 жыл бұрын
I've used the dermalogica sport SPF for a while, but does it pass UK SPF product standards? I know that Australian products require a higher level of testing, but how do I know if a product sold in the UK at least meets the UK standards?

Slight correction, organic UV filters are actually the "chemical" UV filters, the word "organic" is in reference to them being carbon-containing compounds. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are both inorganic UV filters. Also, an moisturizer with SPF IS a proper SPF, as long as it's SPF 30+. All products require the SAME amount of testing in order to claim the SPF number, doesn't matter what vehicle it comes in, serum, cream, liquid, etc. "Sunscreen" is not a vehicle like "cream" or "serum", sunscreen filters are ingredients, and all ingredients need to be formulated into a base, most sunscreens are in a cream base or an emulsion base, which would contain emollients and occlusive agents, which ultimately makes them moisturizers, and they will moisturize your skin, even if they don't call themselves "moisturizers" (not to mention some organic filters can actually function as emollients). Note that some mineral sunscreens can be drying by nature so I'm mostly speaking on organic filters here, but at the end of the day, the testing and regulatory requirement are the same for products that claim a certain level of SPF, you just need to use enough of it with each application, that's the bottom line.
@CarolineHirons4 жыл бұрын
Yes but people are proven to wear far less moisturiser with spf than actual standalone spf. And I know about chemical/organic but that’s not how the industry had explained them to consumers. You need to correct marketing teams so they speak of ingredients scientifically, not in a way that suits them.

@heatherdean77934 жыл бұрын
Minerals are chemicals but let’s all not worry about correcting that so much. You can call it a physical block and a chemical filter if you want. Organic in chemistry is different than organic production of food and herbs. Organic in chemistry has to with whether something is carbon based or not. In food and herbs it is about how it is produced and certified by a third party. 🌺

Nope, it works. SPF is probably the most regulated skin product because of skin cancer. A cheap price is reflective of a many things, to keep the price low they might not have extra ingredients to help it be water resistant or sweat resistant etc.

However a lot of them aren’t good under make up. If you put the everyday ones with factor 50 under your make up at 7 am and then go out at lunchtime for an hour say then would you need to reapply. This would obviously mess up the make up. Confused!
