Thank you for your review! It swayed me to go with this box. I have been using the box for 6mo or so without many issues. I stopped using it for a couple months and now it is painfully slow. Do you have any suggestions to get the performance back? Its so slow it cant play videos. It has plenty of available storage and is using 5/8gb of ram.

That’s odd. Memory should clear unless it has a ton of cache files. Try seeing if you can the cache data in the app area for each app you used regularly and see if that helps. You could also try resetting to factory and/or updating to any newer firmware from their support pages.

If the files aren’t too big then classic FAT32 should be ok. I’m not sure if you can format within the Settings or file browser app options

Thanks for sharing. That’s good to know. How did you brick the rocket? Speed won’t be too different unless you’re heavily multitasking or gaming on it. For casual watching it will feel similar. The launcher can be changed on the rocket to improve that side.

I think it should work with the central dial but text input might be a challenge using that. A BT remote might help speed things along with signing into accounts etc.

I was watching your review of the MMB AI box for the Mazda CX-9, and after seeing your video, I decided to buy the exact same model you reviewed. I tested it in my 2019 Mazda CX-9, and overall, it works well. However, I’ve encountered an issue with audio synchronization when watching KZbin. Specifically, the audio doesn’t seem to sync up with the video-the person on screen is talking, but there’s a slight delay in the audio that comes about a second after their mouth moves. I’ve tried using both my mobile phone and the 5G SIM card in the AI box to ensure that I have a stable connection, but unfortunately, the problem persists regardless of which method I use. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this issue, or do you know if this is a common problem with this box? Thank you for your help!

Thanks for watching ☺️🙏🏻 This is a common issue I found on my own Golf system. The sync varies between car systems. The +400ms lag in my 2013 Golf 7 is +80-100ms in a VW Polo 2024. So it feels modern systems can process the audio to video much faster. I’ll go into this in a future video with my new car and how adapters perform with the updated technology in today’s cars. Search for the twitch audio sync text video and try and see how far the moving white bar is once the beep is heard. I bet it will be around +300-400ms on the right side

If it’s displayed in the menus then it should be possible. Because the 5.0 runs similarly to other brands meaning it had a different software Os to 3.0/4.0 then it may not have this functionality.

The only way to make it work with a phone is to hotspot it. Otherwise inserting a SIM will be the other method.

The MMB has a better UI than the Rocket but the rocket with its extra power does bring a nicer experience overall. If money allows, the rocket would be my choice. As for reliability and stability it depends what you’re doing on or with it. Think of them as Android tablets. If you push them too hard they can fall over easily.

Thing like frequent disconnection an having to reconnect the device again manually, youtube or other apps crashing randomly.. And finally device overheating.. Things like that. Thx for your reply!

They all perform in a similar way in terms of reliability. The crash etc that you might read in reviews is likely going to be compatibility with a certain car system or country they are in regarding heat, or where the adapter is placed in their interior and the condition of cables use or usb ports they are connected to. There’s many variables that can affect a user’s experience. I’ve heard many have been happy with the rocket and that the MMB 5.0 can boot loop after a few months. Why it does that is a mystery. KZbin and maps isn’t thst taxing on the cpu so you could get by with any ai box when using those apps. Just make sure it’s cpu is either 6125,6225 or the fastest 6490

Sorry I don’t have a magic box 4.0 so I can’t really help. But usually you just got to WiFi settings and look for your phone hotspot to appear and then tap to connect to it. I’m not sure if this box works with remotes, usually go into settings then select Bluetooth, then turn your remote into pairing mode and then select search for devices on the screen and the remote should show up. Tap to connect to it.

Most AI Boxes will do this. But if you’re not interested in Android apps and streaming video then a 2in1 wireless adapter will be better and boost faster. If you have both wired CP and AA then check out the CarlinKit 5.0. If you don’t have Wired AA then try the CarlinKit 4.0. Alternatives are also Ottocast u2-x pro.

This is to do with the app being blocked on rooted devices, which most to all AI boxes are. To get around this you'll need to side load the update by downloading it and installing it through APK manager if it has one or a file manager and run it from there.

Sounds like you’re in a boot loop. Personally I don’t know how to get out that and I do mot think there is a physical reset button on it.

Sorry to hear this. Maybe try a different maker, it might be more compatible and reliable than buying the same updated box. The 5.0 is different to the previous MMB boxes, it runs more inline with similar boxes of same spec now. More off the shelf then ground up boxes.

Bought one, but sometimes it starts a restart loop and this doesn’t stop until next time I start the vehicle. Also it is not related to heating as the first time used it I’ve traveled couple of hours and I’ve been using it the whole time, but from the second day it started restarting on random.

This seems to be a common issue with MMBs doing this but it’s hard to pin point what the cause of this is. I only got this with their old Android 9 ai boxes, I’ve not seen it occur in their newer boxes yet.

I recently bought this item and have issues with hotspot. I keep getting a message on the CarPlay said IP configuration failure. It keeps trying to connect and nothing happens. Can anyone help with this? Also it doesn’t seem to be accepting the SIM card. I put the SIM card in the same way you put them into iPhones. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like you need to contact support about this. You might need to update the box firmware to support the hotspot connection and also help with SIM region for your data SIM.

Thank you for all of your reviews. I ended up picking up a Carinlink Plus box and am mostly pleased with the box but have a problem that most likely can't be fixed. My Corolla doesn't support Android Auto so I ended up finding these boxes as a fix. My problem is that I drive a lot and use two devices. My phone is used for calls and work. I use a tablet to listen to music. On my radio I have the phone set to connect as a phone and my tablet set to audio. This has been good but I'm missing the map on the display. Is there a box that will allow me to connect my phone for Android Auto or at least for calls and use the Google map on the device and connect my tablet for music?

This is quite a niche use case. Your radio would need to playback two separate sources which I don’t think maybe or any would allow. Yet you can listen to radio and view AAuto at the same time so it maybe possible as you have already said. You could try to connect the tablet to the boxes BT connection and your phone to the boxes AAuto connection and see if you can dual play audio that way so you bypass the car system. Is the music locally stored on your tablet to choose your tablet then or can you save these to your phone to have a more simpler scenario that would work for easily?

Thank you for the quick response. I tried to connect the tablet via Bluetooth and it keeps kicking off. I spend so much time in the car that I've gained quite a large library. I also use my phone for work so have a limited amount of space that's never enough. That lead me to start using the tablet for extra storage. Dang Samsung for eliminating the SD card slot. LOL Without the AI box it's easy to set up most cars to allow both devices. I'm in rentals quite a bit. I just have to set the radio to use the phone for a phone and the tablet for audio. It limits my phones audio but I only care for the map with it. With the box having it's own map I hoped there was a workaround.

I just bought this. Thanks for your great KZbin review… I cannot log into my google account on any Google products, Google Play, Google Maps, KZbin. the error says: "Couldn’t sign in. For Google, make sure the device date and time is accurate and time zone is correctly adjusted to the right region. Then it should work. I’m not sure you can change the colours other than the wallpaper? Even that might not be possible. It should be in the Android stock settings area.

The HDMI is output not input so it’s just for connecting up to an external monitor like a rear seat head rest mounted display etc. so if you don’t think there is a use for that then the 5.0 maybe a bette option if cheaper. I don’t know if there’s any more advances with the 5.0 over the 4.0. I think there is a comparison chart on their website.

If it’s MMB 5.0 it might need a new update you can get this from their support pages. Make sure maximum compatibility is set to on in the phones hotspot settings. Restart both and try again.

Woah! That’s far too much to ask 😂😉 If you’re just looking for wireless CarPlay for both you and the wife, then you want an adapter that can have the startup device be manually selectable and have auto connect off as an option. Few devices do this. Most of them will be autokit based, so CarlinKit is your first stop. The 5.0 is one of the fastest with good audio quality and has auto off as an option (it’s not default) and this way you might be able to swap devices manually. But it still might also connect if you both sit in the car. No one has really done this right. At least you have the option to select this way. Most won’t even allow this. The cuarko I recently reviewed also does this but I’ve not really tested it with multiple device switching. Hope this helps.

Thanks for watching. Yes you need to give the adapter an internet source in order to stream content from internet based apps like KZbin. Hotspot from your phone uses your cellular data, so it’s the same thing.

Yes it should. If using a remote with these things are a little hit n miss. Especially when connecting them up first time. Remote with keyboard is very much recommended. Also you’ll need a CarPlay port.

For full use of the Android OS on the adapter, I would go for as much power and RAM as possible. Right now that is the ApplePie Rocket kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2i7XqSAp5WJq8U. If you find anything similar with a QC6490 or better CPU with 8GB RAM as a minimum, this is where these adapters really need to be to have a smooth experience with Android OS apps.

This is the fastest chip you can get in an AI Box right now kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2i7XqSAp5WJq8U the 6490 inside gets a 3DMark score of 3040, where as this MMB 5.0 with its 6225 chip gets a 3DMark score of just 586. So if you plan on gaming on the box the 6490 chips are leaps and bounds ahead of the rest right now. If you’re just playing 2D games or streaming off the Xcloud then this is different but you do need decent WiFi spec to maintain that level of bandwidth needed to play over the cloud plus a decent data connection for it also. I’ve not had the chance to test the latter as it’s quite a niche use case.

What he said 👆🏻 These boxes need the power to make them feel usable. The 6125 and 6225 are there, not just not quite. The 6490 in the Rocket is another level. Hopefully, we still see more of them this coming year. As I feel that's where we need to be in terms of power in these boxes. After that, it is down to streamlining the connection process, CP/AA improvements, better UI etc. Maybe we will be gifted by this in the 6.0

Google maps - No first person view (3D) in explore mode. when I turn on navigation to the destination, the 3D view works normally.

I think it mimics how a tablet uses maps than a phone. So this might be why.

I believe (I could be wrong) the term AI comes from Android Interface, as it’s built off the Android OS platform. It was coined AI Box quite a bit before AI is what it’s known for commonly now. It’s certainly nothing to do with artificial intelligence. They ain’t that smart 😂

These AI Box are all the rage right now here in Vietnam and I have read info and review from Chinese source where they originally come up with this Android running on Apple Carplay protocol adapter so I think I can answer why it's called AI Box The AI here is indeed Artificial Intelligence and yes it's a marketing buzzword to make these adapter sounds state of the art, but in reality it was used to mention a Virtual Assistant (VA) software that based on either Google Assistant API for those that sold outside China or Huawei EMUI/HarmonyOS or other Virtual Assistant API available in China as Google is not allowed there. Those boxes exported to Western market weren't pre-installed with those VA software because they are localized heavily therefore adding English translation to the Interface will cost the OEM more and yet many features those VA software won't make sense to Western customer and/or not actually work due to lacking support service. In Vietnam these VA software does exactly like what you would expect from Google Assistant but the local companies imported them from Chinese OEM developing and adding features to VA software, hence they call it AI to differ them from "base" Google Assistant that will require more voice command to achive the same result like these AI, some features I've seen so far are checking Traffic Fine Violation Status, briefing Soccer results of local and international league, checking today gold price/fuel price/currency conversion rate (for some reason), playing local TV channel by saying "Open [Channel name]", etc. In China, thanks to the online infrastructure these VA software can do online payment for parking ticket, connect to Smarthome platform to control smart appliance at home and in some case it can control various function on the car like turning on/off, adjusting temperatute of AC, opening/closing windows/sunroof, etc. if the car supports I hope this could help you understand a bit more about why these boxes are called "AI Box" Cheer.

Good review but you've forgot one important thing. I own VW like you do. B8 and MK7 share the same VW entertainment platform. So the question for million dollars... Is It compatible with steering controls? Volume,Next,Menu,etc... Does It work or not?

Could you give a detailed account of how you applied the 2024/03/ 07 update. The Website is a little vague and the video tutorials are showing it on a Chinese computer. It would be great if you could do a step by step video from going on the website downloading the firmware to your computer then installing it to a flash drive and then updating it to the MMB box,so there are no mistakes made on installing the firmware update. Love your videos and you talk very clearly you would be perfect for this tutorial, nobody else does this that I have seen so be the first and stay ahead of the others please 😊😊😊

Hi Ian, thanks for watching and for your kind comments. Updating the 5.0 is a lot easier than other models from MMB. I’m not sure if OTA updating is possible on this one. But If I remember, it’s just a case of downloading the zip file (don’t unzip it) then place this on a TF card in the root of the storage and then insert this card before plugging the adapter in or giving it power. Once powered, a pop up prompt will appear that asks if you wish to apply the update. Tap to confirm and wait a while for it to apply and reboot. Hope this helps and I’ll see if I have time to do an update video.

You’re really good at replying to people’s requests for recommendations (which is much appreciated so I’ll give this a go). I already have wired and wireless CarPlay with a 2023 Toyota. I just want to be able to view KZbin and Netflix (and screen mirror my phone if possible) on the car display. Not so concerned with price but don’t want to spend more than needed either. What device(s) would you recommend for my use case. Thank you!

Mirroring if never great on these boxes. So I wouldn’t put that down as a must have/use feature. They are always underwhelming in that area. As for YT and NF, well most AI Boxes come with this functionality, so that opens your options, but if you’re on a budget I’d look at the CarlinKit Max/ambient AI Box kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKDalX6perutrJIsi=y0GridpDfHBPmdTc or similar with a 6125 or 6225 CPU and at least 8GB RAM.
