Although DK had the tire advantage, his driving really appeared as if the track was dry with that level of control. Truly amazing.
@kunfupandarofl2 жыл бұрын
Not saying DK isn't a god, but it's important to know just how much of an advantage he was at in the 86 compared to the S2K or G35. The G35 has the weight problem, it's half an 86 heavier than an 86 (more than 1000 lbs heavier). During cornering, if you don't brake enough, the car's inertia will try very hard to pull it sideways and keep it going sideways (off the track) than straight around a corner. The S2K's problem was being heavily power modded relying on a large turbo charger while also being RWD in the rain. For a car to go fast, they have to stay at a high RPM. However, unlike NA cars, turbo cars only end up in the top end of the revs for fractions of a second since once the turbo engages, the needle just shoots up. It's kind of like an on-off switch, you either go full power or you get no power in a *low displacement* turbo car, which makes cornering difficult. Even worse when it's raining. This is the one time you DON'T want torque in a car, since torque will be the thing to make your rear end kick out, and turbo charged cars have an immensely higher amount of torque than NA cars. Just look at how much the S2K is fishtailing and fighting for control when racing 10/10. Source: me
@matthewkinney54742 жыл бұрын
@@kunfupandarofl s2k is probably running a very wide tire to deal with the power of turbo, but it ends up being a disadvantage in rain (more likely to hydroplane).
@M1nato.2 жыл бұрын
@@kunfupandarofl I still dont know about that. I mean the G35 and S2K had the chance to test the Car and adjust all the things, while it was raining. I might be wrong but for me it looked like Keiichi just was more aware of the Situation und knew what adjustments he needed. For me he didnt have an advantage , the others just made a disadvantage for them selves for not adjusting things right, its a big difference if you look at it that way. Anyway its not really a fair race between them if you compare the Cars, Keiichi slapped it😂
@kunfupandarofl2 жыл бұрын
@@M1nato. What you said is definitely true, which is why I said "not saying he's not a god" because he is in that he's extremely experienced with racing and he knows exactly what his cars need. However, until you've driven a turbo car or a heavy weight car 10/10ths in a touge/track setting, I think it's hard to understand just how difficult it is to control those cars. For example, with a turbo car, when do you hit the gas in a corner? Halfway through it? Towards the end of it? If you hit it too late, you'll go too slow, if you hit it too early, you'll power oversteer. This is the case with all cars but with a turbo car this is a lot harder to gauge and control. So you decide to give a little gas halfway coming out of the corner like an NA car, great, you're steadily holding at 4k and there's almost no power and the car isn't going, you give it a tiny bit more and still nothing happens but- jesus it passes 4.5k, then the boost kicks in and your needle shoots to 7k in a millisecond and the torque suddenly kicks out your rear end and you're in oversteer and you desperately fight the steering wheel to fishtail and not do a 180 spin. Point is, in an light NA car, the car will do exactly what you tell it to do, whereas you need a LOT more experience with a turbo car to manage its power. When driven at the max, an NA car and turbo car behaves EXTREMELY differently. This variable is multiplied tenfold when the driver (like Oyu) goes for big dyno numbers and slaps on a big ass turbo with huge turbo lag and a big punch when the power does come in. That wing of his, like Tsuchiya commented on towards the end, also messed with him as under acceleration, the front tires don't have good grip but the wing is pressing the rear down so the car is constantly in the state of understeer, then you either turn more or give it more gas (turbo kicks in) and you're suddenly oversteering and fishtailing. So no, in the rain, the 86 is at a huge advantage over the other two cars. The driver is definitely a huge part of it, including the choice of car they chose, but all factors equal, the 86's advantage over the other two cars is remarkably large and should not be neglected.

Then it began to rain during that race. Then he was able to beat the Skylines in his AE86. I'm glad I got to see something similar again and he does it with the AE86 again. Thanks for the video.

At first, I thought the other drivers might give a way for DK as a matter of respect. But watching how DK fight to maintain his speed and tackling his Super Bean on slippery track, it is full of satisfaction. How Tec-Art able to adapt their tuning for the Super Bean on the spot is also amazing.

Props to DK, guy can drive in the rain! A lot of this race came down to the cars, themselves. AE86 breakaway is much more progressive than the Skyline or S2K which gives DK confidence in him being able to recover it (plus his 30 years experience with the platform). And the lightweight helps with his fast countersteering, sliding style needed for low-grip track conditions. S2K limit between grip and slip is thin and driver was not feeling comfortable with the backend all squirrely. Judging by the massive wing he initially had on it, driver was reliant on that wing for high-speed grip, which couldn't be maintained with the track conditions. You can see they tried to tune around the aero since his wing on-track is much smaller than when it was in the paddock. Plus the ribbing he got about spending too much money on the car was probably true. Guy didn't want to push his expensive masterpiece else it get ruined (can't blame him, lol). Skyline probably had two things going against it, mass and torque. The VQ35's huge torque advantage was probably causing a lot of wheelspin so driver had to be extra light with the throttle and the weight probably made catching the backend an exercise for the driver. You can see in some of the track-side footage the Skyline was slow entering some of the turns, straightening itself out first, and on exit he was in a higher gear than what he would have been had it been dry.

The difference in driving skill is obvious. Oyu is probably used to driving his formula cars and Super GT cars with paddle shift transmission. His one handed driving was really imprecise and resulted in excessive steering and uncoordinated throttle input. It might be ok in the dry by himself with plenty of grip, but in the wet wheel to wheel, it'll be exposed massively. The S2000 also needs a splitter with the rear wing. Club racers have known this for years now with the S2000

Dori-Dori racing skill at rain is similar to what you can see from Sena,Lauda and even Alonso (when magic kicks in). In wet/rain conditions a huge amount of power it's not an adventage if driver/car can't traction well and make use of it. Balance and weight beats power on those coinditions.

True, the wing suppose to add down force to prevent oversteer but in rain condition tire response become slow it will make situation worse. In result start of turn the wing don't let the rear swing to direction suppose to be then need to increasing steering, but increase steering will exceed tire grip then become oversteer. So the whole corning will be under at first then become over and cannot go fast.
