So now we need that legendary MR-S which Orido drove back in the day >) Also, I rewatched some of DK runs at Gunsai in 90's and I thought it was around 3min, but I didn't know it was insane 2'51 (2'51 with 170hp, as someone mentioned here in comments). But we should all admit that his reactions back there was absolutely mindblowing back then, his sharp & precise steering, his gear-shifting time and pedal work was almost inhuman like. AND it is INCREDIBLE that he is still capable of pushing under 3 mins over 20 years later, at his age! I have no words.. and his AE86 IS complete continuation of DK himself. And it was extremely joyful to watch full course touge race at Gunsai ! AGAIN! This is what I always wanted to see in HotVersion since first full-course run by DK in 90's.. sectors time-attack fights was fun but nothing could compare against full course touge runs! More of that, it is incredible to see real grip touge runs nowadays, with all these cockpit camera views, so nostalgic, I really miss those 90's vibes nowadays.. this is what we missing today. p.s. the source of these 2 seconds for Tsuchiya-san and his MameAe86 is.. a NEW tires set! Top-end tires are extremely expensive today, so no wonder that he had his previous used set. But what IF Carprime could sponsored for a new set for this touge, huh? ;)

@sometimesidreamaboutcheese2 жыл бұрын
@@lomfmur as I remember stock 2zz makes 192hp (well it is around 180 whp, maybe, yes). More important: that car is mid-engined lightweight car (970kg stock) with multilink suspension. It is already a wonderful basis, but with excellent suspension tuning it is an absolute machine for domination. Lightweight mid-engine car with good suspension - is a best choice for touges (has been already proved in rallies of 80's, 40 years before). More of that.. at 2021 that Spirit's MR-s has improved mid-range torque with 210hp, low gearing 6-speed gearbox, with overall actual weight of 860kg. IT IS INSANE. And it is extremely close to a proper tarmac dream-rally-bolide. I WISH we could see this legend at Gunsai again..

Tsugio-san is almost spooky how quiet and fast that Z is. the other cars are being thrown around and you hear road noise and the weight savings to get the most outta the engine. the Z doesnt need to leave 3rd gear hardly and has the torque to move its frame around. and how smooth the steering wheel inputs. We really made fun of Nissan for using an old chassis for so long but it really is good isnt it?

Amazing that the AE86 can match up to the SK2 and Z, considering the age of the platform. Though the driver behind to the wheel has a lot to credit for this! Yes it's not remotely stock AE86, but neither are the other cars! In car footage really captured the difference in each cars energy levels and set up. Looks like Z has good suspension settings for this course, pretty good when considering the weight difference between the Z-car to the SK2 and 86. Engine torque shows through here!

Let's not forget the fact that the AE86 has a solid rear axle, which is an extreme handicap on these roads since the whole rear end is literally bouncing everywhere nonstop. It's not that Tsuchiya can't "drive smooth", but rather the limitations of old suspension tech requiring constant corrections when close to the limit on windy roads with uneven surfaces. DK does tend to like to overdrive at times to put on a show(aka drifting), but in this case he's obviously going for time. IMHO, skills aside, the actual advantages he has here is mainly just his superior familiarity with the track and vehicle, as even with a perfect setup the AE86 is just vastly outmatched platform wise.
@JETZcorp4 ай бұрын
Not only a live axle, but a pretty compromised configuration. It has a parallel 4-link with panhard rod, which is only able to articulate (roll) due to bushing deflection. The 3-link as used on the S197 Mustang, or the triangulated 4-link offer smoother motion and lighter unspring weight. The AE86 also has struts in the front, which create a pretty severely compromised camber curve compared to the double wishbones in the Z and S2K. Struts can be made pretty good with ideal geometry (such as Porsches), but a lowered AE86 is FAR from perfect strut geometry.

I've crashed my 370z Nismo twice because of frequent stock ABS malfunctions. Unfortunately it's a thing for this car. I was very close to selling my 370z because I couldn't figure how to fix the ABS, until I've found a solution in bespoke race flashed ABS (Teves MK60E1). I did full ABS swap and now everything is working beautifull. Additionally to Teves being faultless, stopping power and trail breaking capabilities are on the different level. I think this and much more expensive Bosch, are the only ways to really deal with that problem. I hope the issue is dealt with in the new Z, but to be honest I really doubt it, since it shares so many parts with the old one, including the brakes.

The A86 was pedal to the floor because he knew the course. At times this car was flying fast,and the Driver became ONE with the car, you could see this.
