My cousin had a 2007 V70 XC I loved it, We would go everywhere.....and he was driving to school back in like 2016 and got T-Boned by a Ford Explorer at around 50mph the structure help up and I remember seeing the pictures he got out and walked away! Thanks Volvo! I am concerned about that airbag deployment tho....

these is a 2001 model, first year production, sure volvo fix the slow triger in the rest of the production, otherwise y dont think your cousin could walk away.

With these older first generation of cars that came with side curtain air bags, the best in the game in the 2000-2008 era were Volkswagen and Audis. Mercedes and Volvo surprisingly had small, slowe deploying ones with a weak structure that did not protect the driver in time. I have seen this in a few independent test of these cars.

The deployment of the airbag supposed to protect the head was done much too late. In addition, the side structure of the car was deformed up to the roof. In these conditions, the protection of passengers is not ensured and they risk potentially fatal injuries.

Google says a Volvo typically will last for 20 years, which is much better compared to 15 years of Passat. What I am wondering is how safe could they be after 10/15 years on the road? Airbags, let's say, are guaranteed for ten years to work properly, after that they need to be changed. And there is this 'metal fatigue' issue. A 2005 Volvo xc70 has 16% more metal, which is to assure safety, I guess, compared to a 2008 Forester. Can we say 2011/12/13 Civic/Corolla/Jetta are safer than a 2005 XC70? As you see I need ideas here. Thanks.

I think volvo is safer, yes you are wright obout airbags, but y havent seen a well mantained old car, equiped with airbags that didnt triger in a crash...also volvo has a crash center and they check real world crashes to aplay in their constructión... My mother in law has a 2013 corolla, and every time we travel, she prefers the v70, feels much more safe in it

Lesson here is, don't ride with your driver's seat too far forward. The side curtain will snap your neck.

Wow. The structural integrity didn't see to hold up very well. The roof buckles a lot more than I would think it should. My daughter's 2010 Escape held up better. She got t-boned by a Jeep liberty doing about 45. The door only came in about 4 inches. Airbag curtains helped protect her too. She walked away from a horrific crash.
