I am a car dealer in Arizona and there are several issues. 1. KBB values for a private party sale is below wholesale or auction cost (SUCKS) 2. Since majority of the dealerships have floor plans, they tend to pay a much higher price at the auction therefore we sell them at the auction 3. Because the finance companies drive the market we can make more money selling the loans to the bank and that's why we don't like cash deals. I hope this makes sense but our industry is kinda whacked.

@@DanielGonzalez-om5ud the ONLY problem I have with dealers: they know absolutely nothing about the owner of the car or how it was maintained/treated, the majority of the time. That Toyota is as new to him as it is to the buyer. I try to buy cars from private owners and usually have much more insight to the vehicle.

I think it has something do with sales numbers and paying commission. You don’t have to pay commission if you whole sale it, where you would have to pay the salesman and F&I guy for the deal even though it makes a loss. I’m sure they also don’t count it against the sales numbers that the desk guys get paid off of so you don’t piss them off either.

@1982MCI
@1982MCI 3 ай бұрын
I’ve said this for decades Mister Mr. Every single car or truck I’ve ever bought I expected the salesman and dealership to make money. That’s the only reason any of us get up every morning and go to work is so that we are able to make money for ourselves, our families, and our bosses. None of us go to work cause we have nothing better to do today, we are doing it so i can buy my family the new house with the nice backyard and pool for my kids and if I can go make a decent income then why shouldn’t Brandon be capable of making that same nice income for his family. Just cause he sells cars for a living shouldn’t mean he’s required to go to work for the fun of it. He still has the same obligations you and I do but for so long consumers have had the attitude that car dealers aren’t worthy of earning a penny and that’s just BS!! Some of this was brought on by dealers themselves and their shady business practices, but it’s not completely their fault. Consumers for a long time have looked at these guys as not worthy of a profit so consumers would try and nickel and dime the dealer trying to get the car below “invoice” where they felt like the dealer wasn’t making money from the deal but then a year later get upset when the transmission falls out and the service department looks for every option to say the warranty won’t cover it because they know your gonna try and get out of paying a fair amount for the repair!! Consumers need to change their way of thinking and be ok with others making money off their purchase, just be fair with each other and don’t try to make the whole months salary off one single customer. Put yourself in the other guys shoes for a minute and think things through. We all need to start working together better and helping each other again and we will get this country back on track in no time!!

Ok to make a profit. Most people understand that. It’s the flip side that doesn’t go well. The flip side entails a lot more issues to list. When you see a dealership knocking off $10K & more to sell inventory that tells you immediately how inflated the prices are on any vehicle. And you know that even with that kind of major discount, the dealership is still making a huge profit. This is especially true for trucks, SUV’s, & Vans

I'm far off across the Mighty Mississippi, so not a potential customer, but I certainly hope you keep your old lot, and keep buying for it. Many seniors don't care about the bells and whistles. A scratch or minor dent or some hail damage makes us feel a commonality with the car. We have dents and dings ourself. A basic cleaning works, after you've diapered enough butts to form a football team, your used to doing the cleanup work. For the sake of the poorer folks in your area, keep your old plan running also.✌️

I'm happy to see a smart young businessman doing well by using common sense and avoiding herd moves. But what I love about this channel is the CLEAR strategy. Its like Brandon has a masters in business ec or something. He clearly discusses his served markets and understands that these recent opportunistic purchases are a chance to serve another market. There is no haziness or confusion there. The 2022s are not mingled in with the older stuff. He's creating the notion of Good and Premium on his private lot. VERY smart. And the understanding of the customer mindset of just not wanting to get taken advantage of by lack of transparency. Most car dealers are not your friend; they see you as a sucker to fleece. Brandon is trying to change that and these videos are an EXCELLENT resource for that. Honestly, it all seems like such common sense. Why it is not already the norm blows me away. But I can tell you if I was in his area I would stop there first if I were in the market for used.

@CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx
@CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx 3 ай бұрын
It'll take more than 350 cars because it's not pure profit. Aside from the cost of the vehicles and their repair costs, etc., that the buyer will pay for, the 'profit' Brandon lists won't just go into his pocket but will also pay the overhead for his car lot, utilities, listing fees, staff (example: administrative, sales, and general repairs - which will include his cousin, Alex), he'll have travel time and expenses to go to the sales that won't be 'list' items, and he'll still have taxes on what is left as actual profit, etc., so it will take a while to get to a million even at a higher volume of cars with what appears on the surface - before you do a little accounting - to be about 15% profit per car. Give it time, however, and he will get there. :)

I'm certified in Honda products/sales. You should get good money for those Honda's. stick with black rim replacements for the sport. It's what people expect on a sport. Reason dealer doesn't want it is because it cannot be certified or sold as hondatrue due to the damage, that's pretty much it. The damage on that civic is most likely on the carfax. Its hard for dealers to sell damaged vehicles. Dealers really do want pretty clean cars to resell which is why they go to auction or wholesale.
@RickJohnson
@RickJohnson 3 ай бұрын
There are certification services that inspect and rate the repairs done (True360?). Don't know the cost, but it helps to get an objective 3rd-party review linked to the Carfax to explain the damage. Anything minor and not structural shouldn't deter savvy buyers, but it still hurts asking price.

Black rims. Ugh. I hate this trend. To me, when I see these black rims, it is like a smile missing its teeth. It makes a dark gaping hole where I should see a tire. Plus, it makes the vehicle look like it is not grounded. I know there must be quite a few people who love them or they wouldn't sell, but I'll take silver hubs over those any day of the week.

This is why most people at most dealerships hate the car buying experience. They hold all the cards and there's almost no transparency. It's basically a poker game, which is horrible. Buying a new vehicle should be a great memorable experience, but people often get worn down and end up buying something they either can't afford, or really don't want because of the high sales pressure.

Some dealers pretend to list the cost they have in the car but they list those costs at full retail for parts and labor when they used their wholesale parts and house labor rates to do the work. Typically dealers double the parts cost and having a friend who is a service manager at a Subaru dealership I know their actual cost for an hour of labor is about 55 an hour which covers the tech, shop supplies, lights, service advisors who don't do anything but enter data and they include their in house detail guys in that cost. Of course, those expenses are spread over a couple of hundred vehicles a week. They actually charge $120 an hour for "labor" though. So $65 in gross profit per hour x 8 hours x 9 techs plus Saturdays at 4 hours per tech for 4 techs. That's 376 hours x $65 in profit or $24,440 a week. Now, they fluctuate between 310 hours and over 400 but that's a lot of gross profit any way you slice it. If you brought in a car that needed $500 in parts and needed 10 hours in labor to fix it and charged cost for the parts and enough to pay your tech a good wage and cover actual expenses with a little for yourself I'd be fine with that. After all, you're not trying to pad your bottom line with repairs rather you're fixing the car for the car to be the profit center not the repairs.

Love your videos Brandon and I have missed them! We bought a couple of cars over the last year or so and I was researching the heck out of the process watching everything I could, including yours and the Car Edge guys, etc. Stopped watching after we bought the last car and a new job with intense training came along. Now a friend is in the market, so I've steered him to your videos and I realized how much I miss watching all this stuff! I guess I've become a car buying junkie! 😁

Nice Brandon! Hopefully this goes well for you! Imagine if this business model was the norm! dealers would be billionaires with the volume they could sell and customers would be happier or so I’d like to think.

Love the idea of you moving in a direction of higher value cars . No reason you cant do the same with higher priced cars. YOU GOT THIS. Next it’s time to branch out into different states with those southern cars. Maybe team up with smaller lots or even open your own. States like Maine could use “ no rust cars “. Ppl here need cars at your price point and condition. Your business values { transparency } will be your ticket to even higher success in your business. Quick question, are you helping customers with financing or is it something your looking into for this new price point cars?

I’ve been shopping for my wife a new to her SUV for 6 months. I just flew from Atlanta to Sarasota to buy a two owner clean title 2016 Honda Pilot Elite. Saved $4k over what Atlanta dealers are trying to charge. I found the car online on a Friday. Did most of the deal over the phone. Paid a deposit. Flew to Florida the next morning, bought the SUV, and drove back Saturday night. The Sarasota CDJR store I bought the car from gets it. The GSM told me on the phone their job is to sell cars. The Saturday I was at the dealership I arrived at 11:30 am, they had a dozen customers ahead of me in FnI. They move units. Find dealers who are pricing aggressively on their own site and go buy what you need.
