I wish I was in Carrickfergus Only for nights in Ballygrand I would swim over the deepest ocean Only for nights in Ballygrand But the sea is wide and I cannot swim over And neither have I the wings to fly I wish I had a handsome boatsman To ferry me over my love and I My childhood days bring back sad reflections Of happy times there spent so long ago My boyhood friends and my own relations Have all past on now with the melting snow So I'll spend my days in this endless roving Soft is the grass and shore, my bed is free Oh to be home now in carrickfergus On the long rode down to the salty sea Now in Kilkenny it is reported On marble stone there as black as ink With gold and silver I would support her But I'll sing no more now til I get a drink Cause I'm drunk today and I'm seldom sober A handsome rover from town to town Ah but I'm sick now my days are number Come all me young men and lay me down Come all me young men and lay me down.

@@Silverblade61 Theresa, you.might like to have a listen to The Corries. Very good Scottish folk and some virtuoso instrumentation. Or Julie Fowlis. She sings in Gaelic, the music is quite lovely. So pure. Traditional. I adore German "drinking songs". And other styles. Bach. Liszt. Beethoven of course etc. Do you know "Highland Cathedral" favourite for the bagpipes? Written by German composers Roever and Korb. It's very popular at home and has been played by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. And at the Edinburgh Tattoo. Even played when Britain left Hong Kong. I'm sure you'd enjoy. Hope you can look up some time. Greetings from Oz

@ireo89212 жыл бұрын
@@Sussy.baka. In "Galway Girl" Ed Sheeran does not mention Van Morrison's rendition! He does say they put some Van on the jukebox and danced to Cèilidh tunes, but when he mentions Carrickfergus it's they way SHE (the girl from the song) sings it, a capella (meaning there's no music playing) using her feet for a beat, when the bar is in silence because they are about to close up (which btw is probably the sweetest part of the whole lyrics, precisely because he's talking about how beautiful was to hear her sing and how mesmerized he was with her)

I'm a folkie guitarist, and play this often. Have look for a song called... "The Water Is Wide" here on youtube, played by many people. It is based on this song, "Carrickfergus", but slightly more up-tempo. The original 'story' is about someone who is at the end of his life and trying to get home to die!! Try looking at Eva Cassidy for Water is Wide...

Sometimes we are lucky to meet our hero, but it was more, I was lucky and fulfilled to know them both ❤️❤️🙏
