This is such a moving video and song.... I lost my husband in 1993 to a Naval plane crash off an aircraft carrier. He was lost at sea and there were never any answers as to why his plane went down. I was 31 and out little girls were 3 and 7 months old. This month marks the 25th anniversary and tomorrow I am taking my folded flag and going out to the beach to take a picture that I can capture for my book I am finally writing "Providing Promise, a Navy Widow's Journey to Hope". Thank you, Carrie for recording this song in memory of those who are left behind and wish it "was just a dream". Freedom isn't free and may we never forget that. "Those who disrespect our flag have never been handed a folded one".

My dad was in the Army for 23yrs, and did two tours in Vietnam . My grandpa was in WWII . My husband was in the National Guard. When we lost my Grandpa July 21st 2008. I was given his flag when we had his service. My grandpa and I were really close and everybody called me grandpa's favorite. I'm sorry for your loss. I have my Grandpa's in a special case on display in our living room, so everyone that comes over can see it.

I pray that God blesses each and every soldier out there, especially the ones that have come back home and so many are homeless and it seems that nobody gives a dang. They go out to risk their lives so that we can have the freedom that AMERICA stands for. I thank each and everyone whom has went and come home and even those that went and didnt make it back home. But I also pray that God leads this Country again and pray for the families of all our fallen HEROES! God Bless each person that reads this and I hope and pray it helps someone out there. This song is so beautiful, I just couldn't imagine being a soldier's wife, but it would be such and honor really. This is a Memorial Day Song, not a Veterans Day Song! Veterans come back home from a war zone, Fallen Soldiers do not ever get to become a Veteran. Maybe you didn’t Know the difference! I posted this Song on Facebook, this year on Memorial Day. My husband proudly served his Country, 24 years he never had to go to a war, he was truly blessed for sure.He wanted to go, but anywhere we were stationed did not send any to war. My granddaddy served in World War 11, in Hawaii, when, Japan, blew up Pearl Harbor, although he did return home to become a Veteran, it messed his entire life up. But we have Veterans Day to Celebrate all of our Veterans, Memorial Day is a day, we morn the lose of our fallen soldiers, there is a very big difference.

Welcome to the family. :) I got more camo around me than Si's duck blind. It takes a very special woman to marry into this community. You have the entire community of the most badass warriors watching your six. I used to house Marines in transition, Its a very confusing time. You will be shocked when you realize how vey strong you are. My nephew joined at 17. He is now retiring.. (it feels a bit strange saying that... most of us used "retired" for men in their 60s) He is now 28, he made rank last month, will retire as a MSsgt. The last group I housed were just the most incredible humans. It was such an honor to have a 5 men that protect us, selflessly. I had the safest, protected house! The Sniper in the group, Danger Dave insisted on renting the room st the front of the house. From that vantage point, he could see the street and neighbors. His weapon at the window the entire time he was with me, They called me MaMa Bear. Their mothers all called when they heard where they were staying. As they went through the transition, they slowly found their way as civies. Im so going to cry typing this ut I try to help and bring new members of the family some piece of mind. Lean on your sisters. We serve at home, while they serve out there. Quick story, as it shows the hearts and souls of these men. My favorite boy (shhh don't ell the others!) was a Terminal Lance. Huge bear of a soft sweet man. This group served together. They did 3 tours. He came to me during meal prep in the mess. . (they literally renamed everything. The "barracks" upstairs, and the mess, that they put me in charge of.) Their moms, "send them home fat and happy!" And that was my goal. They came home from all deployment, whole and physically unscathed. The only injury sustained was my Terminal Lance tripped over razor wire, had a scratch on his right ankle. "its just a flesh wound!" He stood next to me at the stove. Showed me a tattoo that all have. A shamrock, with "Untouchables". He pulled up his sleeve and said, " The guys and I want you to get this tattoo. You're our Mama bear." I was overwhelmed with emotions, these boys, my boys. However, I didn't feel I deserved the tattoo, I never served, and I wasn't their mother. Sure, they called me MamaBear, but I wasn't their mom. It almost felt like it would be Stolen Valor of the women who birthed heroes. He said, "you take such good care of us. I think we all gained a bunch of weight since separating. We wanted to give you this." The other guys came down to chill. They each came up and hugged me, "we love you. Youre our Second mom." By the time the 5th Marine hugged me I was crying uncontrollably. they all told me how they wanted me to get the tattoo. Finally the sniper found a compromise; I hated turning them down, but I was so convicted, I steadfastly refused. My Grim Reaper said, "Then put Untouchables Mama." The other guys.. "yup! do it for us" And I did,. I have worn this tattoo with so much humility, and appreciation of what and who it represents. They gave me a poem written about a service mom. Has hung on my wall the last 7 years. The tattoo is on my back, so I will never forget they will have my back always. Im sorry this is so long, I like to let the new ladies know that they can depend on us. Her Corps Sisters. A bit of "A day in the life of a Marine Mom" as it were. Have you been to the Birthday Ball? The shenanigans.. LOL Their boots hang in the rafters of a friends bar. oorah Semper Fi!

My husband died on January 4, we were married for 9 months, and one normal morning we got ready to go to church, he left to fix something, I kept preparing his breakfast, but he never came back, they called me that he had died, they killed him for Steal her motorcycle, I was devastated, that day that died, I did a pregnancy test, and if we were expecting a baby, he never knew. Today our little girl is called Aurora, her name is the reason for what she brought into my life, a beautiful light in the midst of total darkness. She keeps me standing, and I will never forget my great love, which today shines from the sky and cares for us

Emma Cassell Baby steps sweetheart. I'm married to an infantry grunt twelve years in two deployments. Total adreniline junky. Still here. If you want to survive this first one I suggest you network with other wives. Find a way to occupy your mind. I use dori's mantra just keep swiming if you stop and worry the days are longer. The nights are lonelier. If you fill up all your free time with activities it will go by faster. DON'T WAIT BY THE PHONE OR COMPUTER that will drive you crazy I know I tried it the first three months ask him to help you meet frg your not family yet but they will get stuff down the wire quicker than he might be able to. Give chance to HOPE. Plus when you don't wait by the phone you have stories to tell him and that is what keeps Our Guys GOING. All my love a sister in the safety of our country. Sarah

This video made me cry a whole lot. As a former equipment manager/unofficial mascot for my high school football team, i have played witness to more tragedy on and off the field than any man, woman, or child should have to witness in a lifetime. Here's a small sampling of the tragedy I have witnessed: During my sophomore year, my high school football team was playing a team from the very northern part of the state for the Semi-State Championship, with a trip to Lucas Oil on the line. In the 2nd quarter, a referee had a heart attack. He survived, but a minute later, someone in the crowd yelled "MEDIC!" That was one of the football dads. After the game, the entire team, sans myself, rushed over to the heart center to show support. Unfortunately, the dad died at 3 am that night. During my senior year, while prepping for a school on the south side, I learned that one of my former managers, died due to an accident the day before the game. The former manager might be one of my friends to you guys, but to me, he was a brother. A brother that I still honor to this day. And that is just a small sampling of the tragedy I witnessed while on the team. I could go on, but I have stuff to do so I'll leave it at this. To put it simply: I have witnessed more tragedy than any man, woman, or child should have to witness in his/her lifetime.

My dad is a Marine and even though he has came back safely 3 times, my mom refuses to let us listen to this song. Makes her too sad to think of what could have happened and how others have had to go through this terrible feeling before

"Then they handed her a folded up flag and she held on to all she had left of him" this lyric hurts so much and is why I can never get behind or understand flag burning.

Exactly, the bastards aren't disrespecting the flag or the country, they are disrespecting the men and women who have given everything for us. They don't think about how much the loss of a loved one hurts those who have lost someone and we see them burn or trample that flag. It's not about the flag it's about our brothers and sisters. Those that die those that have served with you those that have trained and fought along side you. Those that wait at home for a safe return or a folded up flag.

The ONLY time a flag should be burned is if it is tattered/torn. Even then, there are protocols to burn the torn flag respectfully.

Angelena R. I could never ever burn an American flag, or let it touch the ground. I’ll always let MY flag fly high. God bless America.

My twin brother died this week, and he was a huge Carrie Underwood fan, so this song/video has a whole new resonance/impact now. RIP
