One time at Navy Dallas an F14 from Mirimar was going home. So the main road was 50 yrds from the end of runway. 17. And it had been touch n go day so there was a big crowd watching at the EOR. Tomcat taking off towards us... Tower says, Make it a good one, you got a good crowd down there. So picture Blue Angel 6, except in a Tomcat. Yeah, he just about ripped the barb wire off the fence coming out so low. Best take off i ever saw.

It still has the old style windscreen with the flat panel framed by structure. Newer designs did away with the structure framing for improved visibility.

The F-14 and AIM-54 missile, especially the C-variant, gave the United States a tremendous tactical advantage. The plane had it's early issues and was stupid expensive to maintain, but she projected America's power around the world successfully.

Even with full muff hearing protection, the engines are still loud and piercing. I used to watch/listen to the F/A-18s and F-15s taxi to the runway from the quonset huts at McDonnell Douglas when I worked for them. My vehicle parking was about 75 feet from the taxi strip.

VF-84 (The Jolly Rogers) was part of Carrier Air Wing Eight where is deployed aboard the Theodore Roosevelt from October 1988 until it was decommissioned in November 1995. VF-84 completed its last operational cruise in September 1993 and did not operate in the Pacific at all in the 1990s.

People keep saying how beautiful this aircraft is, I agree it's very nostalgic. Myself, I think more about the crew that keep everything in order. In the end it's the pilot and the jet, but there's so many folks that want to see that plane land because they've had so many hours working on it just to fly a mission. It's raw power and im proud to be an American.

When I began working in the radar program for this jet, the electronic test station was still using paper tape ala "I Dream of Jeanie!" mode! It was then that we converted it to a hard disk 👍Pay close attention to the wings! As she preps herself for takeoff, her wings move forward, once in flight, to hit supersonic mach 1 at 700mph she lays'em back and takes off even faster than her launch! And, I luv her ☠️, with a full set of hair combed from the side! "Truly Priceless!"
