So what you do with carrots is pick every second one, keep watering so they can keep growing until you need them. PUSH DOWN, then pull up so you dont disturb its neighbour! Also keep the tops and make carrot top pesto. You can wash all veg in water with a splash of vinegar and scrub with a cheap dedicated nail brush

I have an old toothbrush to just clean off on all the little books & crannies, but honestly, once they're boiled or steamed, it's all good 👍👍👍

Happy carrot growing. For those buckets I do 10 carrots per bucket for good sized carrots. For bed growing I start in soil blocks and then plant them up close as the size of the block is enough for each. Direct sowing is good too but I have more control over spacing with the blocks. Usually you wouldn’t cell start carrots but the soil blocks are only soil so you’re not transplanting as such. Carefully lift the block from the starter tray and put them in the bed soil and they’re away. I got a 4 cell soil block former on eBay for about 40 bucks. Means I don’t have plastic cells that don’t last long and the plants have no transplant shock so you can doo beets, beans, corn, coriander and other plants you’d usually direct sow and you can start tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage and other plants that can be transplanted but they also do better in the soil blocks. You can do a cabbage in a bucket, cherry tomato plant, strawberries, about 3 plants in a bucket, 3 beets in a bucket, 2 capsicum or chilli plants, a bush bean, 3 kale, 3 rocket, 5 cut n come again lettuce and a blueberry plant. Radish can be fun too and you’ll fit 10 per bucket also. Have fun trying different things. It’s all learning by trial and error. Lots of herbs go well in buckets too.

I read Bible storied to my son when he was young. He had Christian books for colouring, and attended Sunday school. Few years ago we stopped going to church. My son is teenager now and few weeks ago, he asked me a Bible. I was amazed. He is reading it by himself. The good Seed on him has sprouted. Alleluia.

Well done guys, it’s a very good start imo. You’ve been given some great advise and I’m jotting it down too, as I’m new at vege growing as well. I’m encouraged to try carrots as well now, thankyou 🥕 I often am reminded of the biblical analogies while gardening and love the time spent there even more, as I feel it’s God reinforcing His teachings with me, as I spend time connecting back with nature and his creation ❤️

Well done re your first harvest of carrots :) i have grown them for many years, so a cpl of tips i have for you are, if you want the them to grow bigger try not to overcrowd the container. If too many seedlings appear, trying thinning them out a bit. This will leave more room for the remaining carrots to grow larger. I never peel my harvested carrots, I soak them in a bowl of warm water for a cpl of mins to loosen the dirt, I then use a sm hard brush to scrub them, then rinse them well in warm water. Given no chemicals have been used in the growing, any tiny bits of dirt left behind will cause you no harm but if you are still worried, cook them in boiling water. Hope that helps :)

The green on the top of the carrot is Chlorophyll cause by exposure to light. I just trim it off before cooking them

Good job, on your first carrot harvest. Tip, try growing vegetables that you can keep harvesting all summer, like zuchinnis, pumpkin, cucumbers, (remember to hand polinate), tomatoes, beans, lettuce, cut and come again vegetables like silver beet, parsley etc. That way you judt need to plant once. Corn is fun to grow but only one cob per stalk. Get your blueberries in now and you will be rewarded next spring. I've always found that crops tend to grow better in the ground than in raised garden beds or containers, if you have good soil in your block.

Well done on your first carrot harvest🥕. I have found that when i have grown carrots, I wait to harvest them until I see the top of the carrot poking up out of the soil, then I harvest them. I think the carrot that was green on top was not ready to be picked yet🤷. Home grown vegetables and fruit taste so much nicer than anything from any supermarket. I love home grown food💚

Great carrots well done!! For big carrots you need to make sure not to overcrowd them. You can plant heavily and then harvest them in a way that slowly thins them out and enjoy baby carrots and the greens in salads. The carrots you leave will then grow bigger as they have more room to grow. You can also make carrot top pesto from the greens too. Its delicious!

12-16 weeks is usually the right time to harvest carrots. Leaving it longer may end up with bitter carrots. Heavy or compacted soil can stunt the growth but your soil doesn’t seem to be the problem. Temperature can also stunt the growth so if the buckets are heating up too much that could be a contributing factor. Without knowing the size of the bucket, I would approximate 10-12 carrots per bucket to allow space for growth. Enjoy 😊
