When he said “industry experts” are telling him 2024 is the year to buy he’s talking about car dealership managers because they are struggling to sell vehicles. I can only assume he might be getting some sort of kickback or incentive because most of the larger channels are saying to wait. Just think about it.. if dealers are struggling to sell and incentives are finally starting to go up, if you buy now, are incentives going to continue to go up or drop? Hold the line!! Wait until incentives reach pre-pandemic levels!!!!

Having a few friends in sales. Time to buy is during summer, best time to buy is winter end of year. Worst time to buy beginning of year and spring time. Think Tax season prices will be held at higher prices.

The prices for cars that have 100k miles have nearly doubled in like 12 years. 10k used to get you a nice sedan or ranger sized truck with less than 50k miles and with a small loan like that the car should still have some value when paid off. Now you’re buying what will be junk in 5 years for 12-15k.

If you change the oil, transmission fluid, and coolant on a reg basis MOST cars should last a long time.

THIS. I think any car can last a long time if you do non misinformed FULL maintenance. As well as know the weaknesses of your car. For example, a cvt I would not drive like a racecar, a turbo car I would try not to build up boost longer then I need to and things like that. I say non misinformed maintenance because a surprising amount of people dont even know the full extent of what needs servicing on their car. Makes it harder when they are told that their transmissions are "sealed for life" and that 10k mile oil changes are okay without looking at what conditions actually quality for that.

Don’t overlook cost of insurance. Crash damageability is a factor in rating. I find Nissan’s cost more to repair after an accident that might be considered a small fender bender. $5000 vs less than a $1000 for a pickup.

Hey Dave, I currently have a 2007 honda crv, just hit 170k miles, I bought it at 85k miles back in November 2017. I have been debating if I should wait another 1-3 years on getting a newer honda crv or mazda cx-5. Or continue to maintain my crv until I atleast hit the 200k mark then see how suv costs look. What do you think?

I think it all depends how you take care of it. Obviously Hondas, toyota, and mazdas will last forever. But even my 2010 nissan Altima has 201k miles thay i drive daily. Most expensive breakdown i had was a water pump.

I live in the Northeast part of New York state and the winters with road salt is tough on the undercarriage of the car so the car may still ruin well that brake lines and everything else rust away once y0u get to 12 years ago.

I traded in my 2016 Nissan Altima with a 140.000 miles not including regular maintenance like brakes tires and oil changes & CVT fluid changes….I spent 350 dollars in actual repairs….The problem with Nissans CVT transmission is that people don’t service the transmission…..I had no problems with my transmission ….

Especially if you're getting a Versa, you have to ask if it's less trouble to just drive a manual transmission than deal with a CVT.

The amount of people with failed cvts I ask about past servicing and they said they didn't know they need to, is insane.

@@SenecaRaine early models around 2012 the schedule was every 60 .000 miles later with the problems with the CVT Nissan changed the schedule to 30.000 miles……

To make ANY CVT transmission last, don’t follow manufacturer guidelines. Some will tell you it’s lifetime fluid that doesn’t need replacement… but if you don’t replace the fluid, 100K or less will be its lifetime. It’s best to replace CVT fluid every 30-50,000 miles, and even more frequently if you do any towing or frequent mountain driving.

Fully right on the VW with DSG transmission. DSG repairs are very expensive, 2-3K easily. Many failures of the mechatronic and excessive wear of the clutch plates. Replacing the clutch costs around 1200 US dollars.

When I worked at a Ford dealership the owner told me all vehicles made were already sold to dealers,not necessarily to the public. Don't know if that has changed or not.

Affordable cars are awful because they want us all upside down on cars that are way too expensive for our income. If you make 50k a year, your car should be 25k new at most, but people are buying used cars that were 50k and taking loans for high mileage used cars, or even buying new cars way out of their range where the loans don’t make any sense. Someone in retail told me their car payment is $700 a month. That’s insane and you’re one bad week away from a repo.

I have bought over 30 new vehicles in my life & the best one I ever bought was a 1983 Mercury Cougar. I put 120,000 miles on it & only had a windshield wiper motor go out while it was under warranty. 😀

Yea because it only lasts 8 years then you have to buy a whole new car. I drive a 15 year old Audi q7 that still looks and drives great. You can't do that with Tesla

@rilethomp typical range loss is around 15% in that time. So if by "hardly any range" you mean it goes from 390 miles to 330 miles, I guess. Still plenty for 99% of trips.

That's weird. Model S batteries have only been losing 10% after 100k and can last up to 500k. I have friends that are over 200k and barely at 10% degradation.

How many friends? I don't know of any higher mileage Teslas. I have seen batteries go at 70k miles and cost $20k to replace.

@@dougkrogh2766I know municipalities like Duluth and Minneapolis/St. Paul switched to EV’s for public transportation and it’s been a disaster. They not only don’t really work in the cold but they are more expensive to maintain than their diesel vehicles. There are also fewer “mechanics” that can work on EV’s and the cost to replace the batteries wether OEM or refurbished will push some people to purchase new vehicles. Then there is the following from Fortune, Nov 2023. “Electric vehicles have proved far less reliable, on average, than gasoline-powered cars, trucks and SUVs, according to the latest survey by Consumer Reports, which found that EVs from the 2021 through 2023 model years encountered nearly 80% more problems than did vehicles propelled by internal combustion engines.”

EVs actually wear tires down sooner due to the additional weight of the battery. The brakes require more checkups and lubrication due to them not being used as often because battery regeneration helps slow down EVs. And for some reason EVs and Hybrids drain 12v batteries sooner. Requiring more frequent 12v battery replacements. Just ask any Prius owner.

Another bias video, acting like the mirage is objectively a bad car. Every mirage owner I have met loves their car, including me. Personally I would not take advice from this dude, take all this subjective information with a grain of salt. Just go test drive and look at cars in person. If you can, talk to owners of a car you are looking to buy as well, they can tell you what its ACTUALLY like to own and live with it.
