All I can say as a Prado owner is what a disapointment The air filters have along history of problems, just google dusting. The air filer box seem to buckle and dust gets gets in above the air filter, maybe water as well now. It will be fine as long as you stay on the tar. Hate to be negative but so much could have been better with not much effort, especially the rear and fuel capacity for towing. dont see why increase towing capacity, but cant tow as far and fuel consumption will increase if you tow 3.5 ton

And yes, the dusting issue has been well documented: www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/toyota-hilux-fix-at-least-a-year-away-113995/ Back in 2019 we reported, "The issue, identified in a motoring.com.au comparison test, is caused by a dust leak past the air filter that cuts the 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine’s power and switches off safety features including stability and traction control." The issue is the mass-flow sensor (MAFS) in the 1GD-FTV, but it was eventually addresses (although in an odd way): www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/exclusive-toyota-hilux-dusting-problem-addressed-125919/

Mud and alternators/generators never go together. They need to be placed high in the engine bay to avoid damage. Wading depth is calculated at a certain speed and time at that specific depth. Splashing water or mud through an engine bay in a 10cm puddle can cause more damage then slowly driving through a 70 cm creek.

This is from Feann's (the presenter) written review over at our website: "After running diagnostics at a nearby dealership a day later, Toyota Australia came back with an explanation: water infiltrated the air filter, which messed up the 48V motor-generator (and the alternator for the 12V battery), thus causing the malfunction. "How did this happen? That’s still a bit of a mystery, especially since we test all our 4x4s in the same place in similar conditions. And when water gets ingested, the engine usually seizes - which didn't occur. "The Prado has a claimed wading depth of 700mm and the powertrain should be sealed up tight, and there’s no doubt Toyota put this thing through the wringer during testing and development - much of it in Australia. "Maybe there’s a small crack or leak somewhere we didn’t spot? We’ve asked Toyota for more details; if we hear back, we’ll post an update. But perhaps the moral of the story is to get a snorkel if you plan on getting it wet." Full review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/toyota-landcruiser-prado-2025-review-148308/

We do, but in Australia nobody recognises this as an LC, it's a prado. The 300 series wagon is an LC and is modern, the 70'series are old and we all know that
@markins12348 күн бұрын
Agree, I was trying to be diplomatic. The Prado is basically ancient, which still has the LC label.

Nice vehicle, very capable. The break down isn't what you'd expect, but at the end of the day it depends if it turns out to be common or a rare incident. I prefer to let teething issues in completely new models to be resolved, however it is really exciting to have a new model before they get common. Each to their own.

It's likely Toyota will get on top of this issue, and the car is a beast on and off road. But if it doesn't address the many and varied issues it could take a reputational hit.

@ianweal30816 күн бұрын
@@malcolmmcinnes888 Christ there are some nonsense comments here. Rueben Dolfin tested both the Y62 & 200 series both back to back, off road, on road and towing same van over same route. The Y62 was as economical as the 200 series in all his testing. He declared the Y62 the more logical buy. Now Rueben was a Toyota fan boy, he went out and purchased a Y62 himself, converted it to ute and totally loved showing how extensively capable it was. Yes, he smashed CV joints doing it but he was doing extreme things, oh, 200s destroy CVs also. Plenty of oomph, driven correctly, economical also. Nissan has just released the far more powerful economical Y63. The UNE market alone will keep Nissan viable, don't be too worried about Nissan being around in the future.

You did pushed it (Hard) compared to old Prado and land cruise, if Toyota didn't solve their reliability very soon they will be in a big trouble to sell their toys, because most of the people are buying (EXPENSIVE) Toyota as it has a good reputation (only) over the last years only, but the market now has so many cars with better quality and cheaper.

The malfunction is unnacceptable. He went through a puddle big deal. The aftermarket will have this covered soon enough but you shouldn't have to. The offroad capability is extraordinary. The way he crawled up that section with even a rear Locker was confusingly good. I'm over these sorts of high trim level offroaders. I considered it but got the new 79 instead. Can someone explain why they'd Put carpet floor mats in an offroad spec trim level

You think it's extraordinary no diff lock was required, that's only because you purchased a 70 series, they require diffs locked to go anywhere. I purchased a twin locked 76 (prior to traction control) it was so disappointing and incapable off road unless diff locks were engaged. Guarantee more vehicles are capable of doing that without diff locks as well, traction control has come a long way in other brands as well as Toyota. Ex, Patrol Y62 series 5, with no diff locks would walk up the rutted eroded incline. I'd be inclined to say my series 5 Y61 with it's prehistoric traction control would walk up there also, knowing my vehicle as I do, the diff lock is the most underutilised feature in the car. I brought our Patrol after owning the 76, as the Y61 only had a rear factory diff lock. I purchased an aftermarket front one, guess where that is today, still on the workbench at home, the std traction control takes our Y61 wherever I point it.
@Abu79295 күн бұрын
I don't know maybe, makes no difference to me as long as I get where I want to go. I'v had pretty well you name It, never a patrol but driven one. Had a few N80's before the 79, no way they would walk up that climb like that without the locker either

Tho prados have always been a bit fragile in all things water related, you shouldn’t be splashing in to water puddles and crossings like that. Second low, and just push through the water at a steady pace. Yes, it doesn’t look cool for the camera, but splashing through water is not ideal.
