Go Kart Reverse Kit Install Pt. 1

We've wanted to install a reverse kit on a go kart for a while now, and our 7 horsepower Subaru Robin powered kart is the perfect candidate! After we installed the Subaru overhead cam engine, the gear ratio on Pugly was way too tall, so between the decreased gear ratio within the reverse unit, and a little bit of gearing of our own, the go kart accelerates pretty well now!

I think they should do a decent mower. Not that I think mines all that,but the kids tell me in the video comments it does kick some ass. It’s just a 612 deutz allis with a 20hp vtwin and a mst206. It’s a blast to drift and it tops out just under 30, and rips donuts and burnouts all day.

I just finished swapping a predator 420, and used a reverse gearbox like that in a mid 90's electric ezgo marathon. It works amazingly well.

I hooked the same gearbox on my homemade gokart. I hooked everything up the same way you guys just did. Found out its backwards. thats why its faster in reverse. Live and learn lol. You guys are awesome keep it up

excellent! yes to a little taller more aggressive tires, front+rear both. gearbox+engine sprockets will make it EASY+CHEAP to adjust gear ratio for tire size. maybe inch taller in rear and 3" taller up front for a little more clearance? small tires sure have a way of getting stuck.

@@Ratkill9000 Or an old Sears lawnmower, or many other devices...I have used them on go carts, but a newly manufactured device like the one shown in the video would allow for many others to experience the mechanically advantageous superiority of low/high gears without the complication of acquiring, modifying, and fabricobbling unwieldy or ugly machines.

@@ProlificInvention wouldn't take much to get a Polairs 250 Trailboss gearbox to work on one and make it look good. Sucks they don't have connections to have gearboxes made for what they need.

@@Ratkill9000 Yes, I own a Polaris Trail Boss 250, but it only has Fwd, Neutral, Rev...and relies on a torque converter for changing ratios, so essentially the same as the one *CarsandCameras* used...maybe newer models had hi/low gears? Anyway my comment is just hopefulness that manufacturers heed the call. I have put many types of transmissions on different contraptions and vehicles, but always wished I could just buy a brand new Chinese cheapie with Hi/Neutral/low/reverse that was small in size and made specifically for horizontal shaft engines. @@ProlificInvention a guy on minibuggy net built a mini buggy, he called 250 Microburst used a hi/low gearbox from a Polaris 250, might have been a 1992 model. He goes by daaboots there and glassglowz here on KZbin. That's the only gearbox that I know of, besides an RPM that offers hi and low ratios, plus reverse without breaking the bank, unlike the RPM which goes for $5000 or so.

You should totally pinstripe the blue mini bike. You should definitely see if you can put one of those reverse kits on the monster kart (i don’t remember the name 😐). I have an idea which sounds crazy snowmobile=remove engine=put on go kart=liquid cooled madness, probably would smoke the Ducati engine any day of the week.
