Posting this as a fresh comment since a lot of people are asking a similar question here is what i needed to do to fix credential problem. I had a pin to sign into the pc and this is not what it wants you need to CHANGE it and set up a password if you use a pin because there is no password yet in this case, mine had never been set up, i googled how to do this, its under windows settings. Then the default user name that it implied for me was my Microsoft account, this is not what it wants. It wants the user name that it says at your windows login screen when it asks you for the password that you just set up. THEN the computers may not be able to be logged into the same Microsoft account (this is not windows account this is your separate Microsoft account) so you need to set one of the computers( i would try each one) to "local" mode, i had to google this. Now it works for me.

I watched your video where you demonstrated using Remote Desktop to connect to another PC, and you were able to see a KZbin session that was already open. I thought each Remote Desktop session was supposed to be separate. Could you please explain how you did that?

That happened because I logged in with the same user account, so it picked up on my last activity. Each user login is a separate session, but if you have the same user account, and you access it remotely, it picks up where you left off.

Adding another method that I found worked. I was struggling logging in using my credentials, under 'Remote Desktop Connection' Click 'Show More' then click the 'Advanced Tab' and toggle 'Use a web account to sign in to the remote Computer' then I used the microsoft account associated with the computer I was remoting into and...it worked!

user names and passwords in windows ware always fucked up. Even when I did not establish any password, stupid Windows asked me to type a password when sharing a folder in network. I was always amazed how stupid and not intuitive this is. You have to change deep system settings to force windows to work correctly. And now - when MS is basically enforced to use @ account, this is on whole another level LOL

Great question. Because RDP only works within LAN (your Local Area Network) it's generally considered safe when used in a home environment. Enabling it will NOT allow outside users to gain entry.

@@terifictaylor1076 Highly unsafe. The best thing to do is use something like teamviewer or parsec to access a remote machine :) That way it's secured and authenticated through Teamviewers/Parsec servers and you're not opening up your network to world wide internet scanning/attacks haha

Try the IP as shown at the end of the video. Make sure the computer is on, RDP is enabled, and it's connected to the same LAN.

this was working for me for the past couple years, i just returned from a short business trip and tried to log in and now i get an error saying "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons" 1) Remote access is not enabled (it is) 2) The remote computer is turned off (it isn't) or 3) The remote computer is not available on the network. They are on the same wifi so not sure what that means unless there is a setting that somehow changed itself I don't know about, anyone have any clues

Are you using a work computer? You might not have the correct permissions. You don't need Admin to run ipconfig, but you could try running CMD as Admin to see what happens.

I'm not sure what you're asking here. RDP is the protocol used for remoting into a windows machine (and it's created my Microsoft). You can connect to the machine on your network either via IP/Hostname.

Hey - Best thing to try would be to connect via IP address instead of computer name. The issue you described is a common problem, connecting via IP works pretty well. Grab the IPv4 of the host machine by running "ipconfig" in CMD.exe. Look for IPv4 Field, should be in the same subnet as all of your other devices (10.0.0.x, 192.168.1.x etc)
