Still in awe of that pass Gil put on Kenny all these years later. I was pulling for Brack (both for the race and - pending a surge by Michael Andretti - the '01 CART title) but I had to take my hat off to Gil on a fantastic move. When Kenny took the lead with two laps to go, it was the first time I'd really gotten excited about something since September 11. Life felt normal again. Then Gil made that move and took away the win but it was such a remarkable pass for the win that I was actually happy for him. We all needed our "Life is going to go on and we're gonna be okay" moment here in the States and this race was that for me.

I was there and it was awesome. It's a reminder of how good CART was in those days and was a real threat to F1. Indycar today jus seems a bit tame by comparison...

I was at this race. That move by GDF on the last lap all these years later is still a beauty. Shame that CART / IRL never came back after 2002.

Also, the noise of those cars and the speed. Remember T1 Lap 1 as they all thundered past - it reduced a child in front of me to tears. Good times!!

Rockingham has just been closed down after 17 years of racing including the two races CART held at the track

The Shrew 88 The Rockingham circuit in the middle of no where so i'm not surprised one bit that they had to close.

I was at this race, one of my work colleagues had ford racing pit passes. It was quite sombre with the zanardi crash the week before and 9/11. Great cars and racing though.. :)
