There are so many monster drummers, Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, Dannny Carey, Aquiles Priester, Senri Kawaguchi, Dennis Chambers, Terri Bozzio, and many others, but none look as comfortable or as sincerely happy when they play as Carter does! The fusion of music mixed with his open style of playing and the chemistry he has with the band just makes every live performance like Christmas morning! Thank you Carter for your hard work and for sharing your gift with the world!

@@trenken You’re comparing a progressive rock drummer to a jazz fusion drummer it’s like comparing apples to oranges
@trenken2 жыл бұрын
@@mattmiranda3427 no its not. Carter and neil have a LOT of similarities in how they play. What style of band they are in is irrelevant. Many progressive rock drummers employ many styles, and neil basically did every style of drumming in rush. If carter joined rush with neil gone now, he would fit right in. Hypothetical obviously. It would never happen. There is no rush without neil.
@philosopher00768 ай бұрын
@@trenken Neil, a better drummer? No. Not at all. Neil was stiff and had zero swing...ZERO. He had almost emotionless playing, robotic. I have been a drummer for 48 years. My father was a big band jazz drummer. Trust me, Neil doesn't hold a candle to Beauford. Even when Peart took time to learn traditional grip two decades ago and tried to get deep into jazz and even had the great Peter Erskine tutor him and then played a couple times onstage doing a solo with Buddy Rich's remaining big band members backing him....he actually sucked insofar as his ability to swing. He had no swing in him and no funk rhythmic ability whatsoever. Stiff as a board. I bet he couldn't dance worth a damn. He was fairly quick, had good coordination, accuracy, creativity, stamina...and a great memory for recalling patterns, but a drummer without the capacity to swing, groove and flow with human sensibility on a kit...is not a great drummer and has a robot like sound and feel when playing. That was Neil as a drummer. So, no comparison to Carter. Carter's swinging, funking, grooving and creativity are just off the charts and much, much MUCH more MUSICAL 🎵🎶🥁....than Neil.

@@philosopher0076 dude youre talking to a musician whos 2 favorite drummers are neil and carter. This isnt a battle. To me neil is the better writer of drum parts. Carter is a better improviser. Both are the best of the best.

Couldn't agree more. Bonham was great, Peart great....but Carter is #1 for my money. If you just listed to some of the work he does, I don't even know how the man can remember what to play, let alone his sheer masterful technique. The guy has NINJA quick hands and feet. Need an example? Watch the mic disappear at 2:51.

Idk man i dont see how you could say carter is actually better than neil. Just talking drumming and not including neils amazing lyrics. If we are including that, there is NO drummer more important to their band than neil was. But i listen to various rush songs, they just sound more complicated on the drums to me than anything carter has ever done. I LOVE carter, but to me he is just a step behind neil on the kit. Thats my opinion though. Usually when people talk about the best rock drummers of all time, neil is always listed up there but carter isnt. I think part of that is dmb is a jam band so carter is overlooked by the masses. They are not considered like a tight complex rock band like rush is since carter is really the only thing complex about dmb. Neil got attention is a famously complex 3 piece band. But still, neil is just such a monster spanning so many styles and dmb doesnt change styles really at all, so carter is usually mostly just doing the same types of things. Neil seems far more versatile to me bc the constantly changing music of rush demanded it. So i have to put neil ahead.
@philosopher00768 ай бұрын
Carter is NOT the only complex thing about DMB. Are you deaf or simply musically ignorant? That is a question, not an insult. Well, are you? You don't think Boyd Tinsley's violin playing and technique were intricate and monsterously good and complex in his bowing technique alone? You don't think the late LeRoi Moore's playing was PHENOMENALLY INTRICATE? And what did LeRoi play in DMB? Bass sax, baritone sax, tenor sax, alto sax, clarinet, flute, recorder, trumpet, etc ....and he played them all FLAWLESSLY. Furthermore, Dave Matthews acoustic guitar playing and chops are IMMENSELY intricate, and sick. His rhythm is ROCK solid as is his timing...all while simultaneously singing. His picked melodies and riffs while singing on key and in proper timing of vocal melody are achingly difficult to do. You have no clue about what you are talking about. His chords and chord shapes are enough to give one arthritis just holding such chords for ten seconds, let alone for whole songs. And he holds those chords tight and picks them out so clean...which is extremely difficult considering the finger spreads needed just to fret those chords. Oh yeah, and he WRITES the songs, music and lyrics which are amazing, often deep and hauntingly beautiful and also often make you really think hard about life, relationships, death and more. So to say Carter is the only complex part of DMB is just you being musically clueless. And Carter is far more musical than Neil was and can swing like crazy whereas Neil couldn't swing AT ALL no matter how hard he tried. He was the most robotic drummer in all of music.
@SchmooseАй бұрын
@@trenken Your statements about Carter and DMB in the second paragraph of your "opinion" really illustrate your complete lack of knowledge of DMB and their greater discogrpahy. To make claims like them "not changing styles" and Carter "doing the same types of things" and DMB not being a tight complex rock band show you don't have much knowledge about their music. I suggest you educate yourself before making such off base claims under the guise of an opinion
