"This is a mythical car. Only the one prototype ever existed. It was designed to continue the Jaguar heritage where they won Le Mans five times through the fifties." Arron introduces us to his faithful recreation of the myth.

I did five laps in the real XJ13 with Norman Dewis driving, may he rest in peace, at XK50 at Donington in 1998....I won the auction for the ride with Norman at the gala dinner the previous night....we did the first laps with many of the historic XK's, C's, D's and then the last laps alone on the track with thousands of "Jaguarphiles" surrounding the track....I consider that one of my best Jaguar experiences ever...since I bought my first 1954 XK120SE OTS back in 1959....I now have the 1961 E-Type OTS #875864....for 51 years, I've owned it, loved it and drive it all the time....

I myself was lucky to see the real thing at Goodwood when I was about 13. Even touched it when no one was looking!! I was absolutely awestruck for the rest of the week

Elia You can see the car in British motor museum near Coventry UK. I just been there today and can say this is the most beautiful car i have ever seen. And yes it was the original one, the only one in the world.

It's got some major inaccuracies, though. It's too tall, because it uses a SOHC 5.3-litre V12, which is taller than the 5.0 quad-cam in the original. The only authentic XJ13 in existence is Neville Swales' recreation. The Jaguar car itself is not authentic either, having been rebuilt in rather different form several years after it was wrecked in a high-speed crash.

This is a magnificent car. A beauty that is manifested by the hand made legacy of British Sport cars from an era of craftsman that sadly, the world has almost completely lost. Hopefully gentleman as yourself will work to keep this type of engineering from disappearing. Well done Sir!!!

Very nice,I wouldn't have fancied driving the real one with the fuel tanks on each side of me in the door sills,that's why those drivers were special people.

At three inches ground clearance on the sump, I won't be inviting you to drive around my area... if you don't rip your sump out, you'll hang up on one of many bloody speed bumps. Lovely car, by the way.

It’s funny, the whole time I was watching this I kept thinking how much it sounded like a spitfire. Probably a scaled down version of the Merlin.

i was out cycling one day on the a660 near otley 20-odd years back, & heard this incredible racket coming up behind me. before i could look, this thing that appeared to be a giant manta ray, painted british racing green & with a rolls royce merlin stuffed up its arse, came hurtling by me at massively illegal velocity... i had no idea wtf it was, only found out years later it was 1 of these. never seen or heard anything remotely as spine-tingling on the road.

I believe that there were two XJ13s built but one was demolished in an accident when a wheel collapsed.

No, just the one, a number of years after it was crashed by Norman Dewis, it was rebuilt. There are a number of sources of accurate information on the car. Neville Swales is one source. He actually bought one of the five original quad cam V12s built by Jaguar off German Ebay. He then proceeded to build a very accurate replica around the original engine, using original drawings and photos, many hours in the archive. He now builds close (improved) replicas of the original quad cam V12.

This car is not quite the same shape as the original, there are many reasons for this, not the least being that the production engine was bigger than the race engine and thus the body is longer. Two videos showing the original: First, a clip from Victory By Design shows Alain de Cadenet (15 times Le Mans competitor) driving the original, and I mean driving! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH6zaJmNbNmdadk The entire Jaguar episode is on KZbin and is essential viewing kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoPSf6uNh9JgobM The entire series is on KZbin in varying quality. The Porsche one was the first made and not that good apart from the driver practicing the Targa Florio at speed on a normal day, dodging a horse and cart in a village, you know that sort of thing. The rest of the series is fantastic, I have no idea how they got people to lend them those irreplaceable cars and then let them drive them like that. The second begins with a part of the video shot of XJ13 just before Norman crashed it, the rest is another replica kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJCreGh3oJV5ftE

This must be considered one of, if not the, most beautiful race cars ever made. Enzo said the XKE was the most beautiful car he had ever seen - wonder what his response would have been looking at this car! I was fortunate enough to see the original, only example made, at Lime Rock Park Historic Festival some years back. I thought at first it must be a replica but was told it was the original. Never thought I would get to see this amazing vehicle in person. Trust me, it's even more stunning than the best photos would reveal. I do have a diecast 1:18 scale model of it which is a prized possession.

I always thought that the XJ13 never raced because the Le Mans organisers limited the Engines to 3 litres.
@loti543 жыл бұрын
no, it never raced because it was built along 1950's lines, like the D-Type, stressed outer skin, also the tyre technology of the day was advancing faster and would have meant a redesign of the rear suspension and bodywork, (Jaguar bought a GT40 and copied the rear suspension for the XJ13) . It was too late in the decade to have been competitive. Jaguar built (unfortunately) a beautiful dinosaur. Had the XJ13 been launched in 1961 it may have been a world beater. Unfortunately too little, too late
@Loulovesspeed3 жыл бұрын
@@loti54- Jaguar merged with BMC in 1966 and they (BMC) had no interest in investing in racing projects, so the car's development was put on hold. The final death blow to this magnificent machine came in 1968 when the FIA reduced the capacity allowed for prototypes to 3 liters making this 5 liter V12 obsolete - along with the Ford 427 which caused Ford, in part, to stop working on prototype Le Man s cars.
Gorgeous car, and looks as stunning as the genuine car, but engine not original.. There's a guy in the UK who's got hold of an original engine from somewhere, confirmed by jaguar, and he's building an exact replica with an original period Coventry Climax V12 in it..

Some say the most beautiful car ever is the E- Type, some say its the F40, some say this Jaguar XJ13, but I have to disagree with them all, because my first car was a 1300 corsa which was the only car I could afford and which gave me my freedom to take me and my family to the park or the beach. It gave us freedom which we hadn't had before . Nah , thats all bullshit its the Jag by a mile. lol
