Jaguar, like Ferrari, always looks to the future. redesign isn't in their nature. always find a new road. that frankly, is the badass way ahead .. ford GT in reality, is a marketing exercise.. ford should have left the original alone.. did you even see the 2015 "ford GT"?

Jaguar will face extinction if it doesn't come up with solid designs and smart marketing in the next 10 years. I am personally a Jag enthusiast, I own three of them, including an E-Type. Jaguar's design team is asleep. Whatever is graceful, classic, and beautiful they have gotten rid of. The Jaguar heritage is gone. What's left is a bunch uncharacteristic, lackluster, and uninspiring model line-up. If you pull the badge off of any new Jaguar these days and call them Lexus or Toyota or Infiniti, people will believe it. Jaguar's poor sales figures speak loudly. That's why looking backwards is sometimes the best way of looking forward. Don't even get me started on Ferrari.

My dear sir, I can assure you that the XF most certainly does follw in Jaguars traditions. It is, just like the XJ was when it first came out, a sleek, stylinsh, modern car, at the cutting edge of what's possible, at a competetive price, and with a dirving experience to leave you wondering why anyone else even bothers. No, it doesn't have the familliar grace of the old XJ, but did the final versions of that have much anyway, bloated as they were? What it is is crisp, modern and beautiful.
@KlockworXMusic12 жыл бұрын
The engine in the XJ13 is what they based all of the V12's in production cars off of if I am correct. You could take any V12 probably and bring it up to spec roughly. The original is carbed though, not fuel injected, correct? I love the 12 velocity stacks on the engine. Beautiful car.

Yeah, that was actually a boast of the first V12 to go in the BMW 750iL, so I'm not sure if that really is the case for the Jag V12. The V12 XJ-S & XJ saloons are vastly undervalued IMO at the moment. Must get one !

Pretty much any V12 sings but yea,I agree,the 60's V12 have a really nice sound. There is just something about an all mechanical motor. The computer controls,electronic ignition etc has improved bottom line performance but they somehow lose something. You no longer hear the lopy cam at idle that lets you know that car was built for performance.It's no longer up to you to find the sweet spot in an engine,the computer does it for you. The best way I can say it is the older cars have a personality

See if it wasn't for Edward Loades spotted the crashed XJ13 in storage at Jaguar and made the offer to 'Lofty' England that his company Abbey Panels should rebuild the car. The car was rebuilt, to a specification similar to the original, using some of the body jigs made for its original construction and at a cost of £1000 to Jaguar. The XJ13 finally made its public debut in July 1973 when 'Lofty' drove it around Silverstone at the British Grand Prix meeting and it is now displayed in the

@harris3693 Not as far as I know. Certainly the original 4.6 litre Ford V8 fitted to Mustangs predates Jaguar's original 4 litre V8 introduced in the XK8, and those are completely different engines. With both Jags and Mustangs now using 5 litre V8s, and with Ford once owning Jaguar it does look like they could be the same - but as far as I can tell, they're still completely different engines developed on opposite sides of the Atlantic.

It’s not the only one in the world. A father and son duo from Perth have hand built one at Newlans Coachbuilders in Perth from plans and photos. Jaguar have stated that is equivalent to a second one and due to the quality and exacting specifications is not therefore a copy.
@richardharrold973610 жыл бұрын
It's OK, but it does not use the original quad-cam engine (of which only two complete examples survive - one is in the rebuilt original, the other belongs to Neville Swales who is building a replica of the pre-crash car): it uses a fairly standard SOHC 5.3 and as such is about five inches too high at the rear compared to the real thing. I think that most XJ13 replicas use GT40 type suspension, too.

@Brettannica18 жыл бұрын
As opposed to you taking the bus?
@richardharrold97368 жыл бұрын
Brett annica paul hunter I'm just stating, the Aussie replica isn't absolutely authentic, because it uses the later, taller 5.3 SOHC V12 and some non-standard suspension components. Even Jaguar's own car is not authentic, as it was rebuilt very differently to the original after its big crash. The one and only truly authentic XJ13 is Neville Swales' example.
@Brettannica18 жыл бұрын
+Richard Harrold I agree with you and appreciate learning a bit more. My information came from chatting to the owner, hence I went with what I had been told. Not too sure what Paul's Honda waffle was about. The bus crack was directed at his comment. Thanks

Well, you can pick up an XJ12 for £3-4k, and an XJS for about the same. Running costs are high, between 17 and 4 mpg is what I usually get in mt S1 XJ12 depending on how jolly my right foot is feeling. It has been known to hit low 20s though, so mpgs aren't too evil. You actually can do the penny thing with my Jag. (well, could. I've chipped a lump out of the water pump pulley, so at about 5000 rpm, there's a little vibration.

Even the older jaguars that were pudgy, (Of which you could say the XJ13 is) they pulled off pudgy in a way that worked. Its like a woman. If she is fat all over, it does not look good, but say she a narrow mid section, with wide hips and big bosoms, then its marvelous! And that is like the XJ13, pudgy, but the lines, the placement of "The Pudgy" makes it beautiful! The new jaguars, they through the pudgy on in globs, here an there, and then ALL OVER! It just is not right!
