On my LS400 the coolant overflow reservoir .... its on the left side of engine bay. There is a hose on the bottom of the tank, that hose goes to a clamp and its clamped to a metal hose and disappears under the engine. Where does that go? Does it drain onto the road? Or does it go into the engine someplace? I'm trying to clean that dark varnish out of the tank. I'm intending to put Toyota Long Life Red at 65% mix with distilled water....

Is this the main fill pipe from the expansion tank? Is there any others that need to bleed up to the top of the expansion tank? Thanks

What size is the little hose on the front by the thermostat that you have blocked with a bolt? I need to get 1 and don't know what size to buy. Thanks
@CartuneNZ
@CartuneNZ 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Rex. I didn't blank the little hose at the front with a bolt, that was a past owner and I would never fit an engine with a bolt inserted like that. This is my test engine which hasn't been prepared yet and I never do it like that. My preferred way is to remove the housing , remove the pipe and weld the hole. See the yellow ute and engine preparation videos. Old yellow is slowly getting different preparation done as each job goes by. Also upcoming silvia engine where this test engine finally gets a welded housing. Cheers

Hey @CartuneNZ , I have an issue with the cooling system. I have replaced the heater core and after that, I have filled system via inlet 14mm bolt or so, then I have filled coolant system tank to the maximum line. All seems good, but now when the weather is hot sometimes coolant get thrown out and the level goes to a minimum. All hoses are good, the engine just throws away some part of the coolant via overflow hose on top of the coolant tank. Is it possible that I have air in the coolant system or something like this?
@CartuneNZ
@CartuneNZ 5 жыл бұрын
Hello. Air locks are always possible but if the system is set up correctly then air locks should leave the system quickly. It is important to ensure the radiator cap is in good order , that the hose between radiator and overflow is correct and unrestricted. Are your fans in good order with no overheating? How big is the overflow bottle? I have had systems which are quite large where the expansion exceeds the size of the overflow bottle. Then when they cool down the overflow bottle is completely empty. The solution has been a bigger overflow bottle. Good luck with sorting yours, I'd be interested to now the remedy. Cheers Kelvin
