@ If you had made it just LONGER, then it would have looked good from the side as well as tilted. :) I was just searching carving cuz I bought a dremel 3000 recently. I have never owned one and just started using it and it seems to have a ton of applications. I ground down the screws in a guitar bridge. Sanded some sculpey clay repair I did to a jar lid. But the 3000 is getting very warm and not even on highest speed. I guess it just does that. Well, you did a good job considering the task. Rose petals .... not the easiest thing to carve, I would guess.

@ at 8:43, how did you get the brown color? did you just burn it?
5 жыл бұрын
Yep. This was my first try, so there is many things that can be improved. I try things just once. I'm not very interested about making art kind things, but its fun to try something new.

Just little burn, and linseed oil. Color comes from the willow tree itself, its little reddish when sanded and polished.

Me encantó tu video! Hoy me compré un Dremel 4000 y buscando información te encontré. Sos el único que dice que punta dremel usa en cada momento. Muchas gracias por tus videos. Saludos desde Argentina. I loved your video! Today I bought a Dremel 4000 and looking for information I found you. You're the only one who says that dremel tip uses every moment. Thank you very much for your videos. Greetings from Argentina.

Carving in the top on that end grain is tough! Nice that the wood naturally burns deeper in like that though. So many elements of wood carving lend themselves nicely to the finished product.

WOW! How beautiful! I would be scared I would Dremel more of my finger off than the wood!
7 жыл бұрын
mstiegra Thank you. And you don't need to be worried about your fingers. Diamond tips and tungsten carbide cutters doesn't make damage, high speed cutters may do a little scratch, if pressed hardly against skin. Grinding stones and cutting discs may do a little wound, buy usually little burn mark is the only result. You don't need to be scared that you'll fingers turn to meatloaf after little mistake, that's not possible ( unless you really want to do that )

Can you use sanding band bit instead of shaping disk ? to do what you have done to shape the wood

Yes. I actually like that sanging paper / band works better. Wanted to try that shaping disc, but it didn't felt "familiar" to me.

Thanks. High speed cutter 117 and diamond engraving tip with spearhead. Tungsten carbide cutters can be used instead of diamond tips. Diamond tip is a little slower, but it gives smoother result.

Look at any second hand stores,ace hardware,any tool store,....the best '4 horse power,foot pedal and universal flex shaft,...the first year I based my carvings on mistakes,....it's been up since then,...building up from that
@tightlineagain8 жыл бұрын
Nice job, I think I may have to give it a try even though I'm sure it won't come out as nicely as yours did. I work with a smaller pneumatic tool and was wondering if you knew about them and/or ever used one. They spin at 300-400k rpm and are great for small details. Using only smaller 1/16" (1.6mm) bits they can be very precise, therefor getting more detail out of your work. They're also a lot smaller and lighter so more comfortable to work with for long periods of time. I know that my older model Dremel with the flex drive attached cramps my hand after a few hours or less of use.
8 жыл бұрын
I would like to try one those. I have the same problem sometimes, but i have made a little handle for that flex shaft, so i don't need to squeeze it so much. That helps.
@tightlineagain8 жыл бұрын
Tuomas Soikkeli Nice. I'll have to look for it in your videos. I was just looking at the new Dremels as I need to replace mine after 20+ years, and noticed they sell one for the Dremel itself. Maybe I can use it as a guide to create one for the flex shaft. If you want to look for one on the lower end of pricing, check out the turbo carver at, turbocarver.com/purchaselist/body_purchaselist.htm It's an entry level tool that does exactly what mine does but at a lower cost. The one I use is the 400XS engraver but it's not cheap. It is worth it though as it spins at 400K rpm and the bits are small, so I can get some nice detail out of my work. I do mostly eggs and glass. Don't get anything over the system 3 though as it's a waste of money. www.scmsysteminc.com/system_three.php Another one I would recommend is the Shofu Lab Air-Z at www.graphictransfer.net/. I took one of Carl's classes and had the opportunity to try it out and it's a very nice unit. They are good people at Graphics Transfer and he won't try to over sell you. Those were the three I personally found that I liked but there are more out there if you put the time in to search for them.

David Saunders Thank you! Those are very interesting tools! We have turbine powered power tools at work, those are great tools and very powerfull. Is that cheapest one also oilfree? I didn't notice if it was mentioned in the description. That would be great for me. Btw... I could make a video from that handle.. now i use one that i milled at work, did a nearly similar handle to my pow launcher too, to get it more faster to use.. but i could make a homemade version too. ☺
@tightlineagain8 жыл бұрын
Tuomas Soikkeli Yes the Turbo Carver (the cheaper one) says it's lube free. It may in fact need to have a couple drops added every 2 or 3 hours of use like the model I have but it is essentially lube free. There are some videos here on you tube showing some people using the tool. You'll just have to look for them. As a side note, they are not very powerful at all. There is almost no torque to them whatsoever. The cutting is done because of the shear speed of the tool. You will still need to use your Dremel to remove the bulk of the material because it would take a long time with the smaller bits. They only take 1.6mm (1/16") bits and the working part of the bit can be as small as .5mm or less. That is how you can get the great amount of detail out of the work. If you could post a video of the handle you made, that would be great. I'd definitely like to see it. I looked through all your videos to see if it was there but didn't see it. If it can stop or even slow down how quickly my hand starts to get uncomfortable, I will make one for sure. I forgot one other link to give you that I found when searching for my tool. It's profitablehobbies.com/ Just wanted to show you another model out there to look at.
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot. I thought that one of those would be good add to my tools.. mostly i still use my dremels. I have one micromotor too, but didn't like it. When you get used to one tool, it feels that it fits your hand like a glove and other ones doesn't just feel right. ☺ But .. Thanks a lot, i will take a better look for those links !

Really beautiful work!! But i have a very silly question..at the beginning of the video while you were carving, it seems like smoke was coming out.. how? and why?
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Its smoke. From friction. I used full speed with diamond bits. It burns wood lightly. But not very deeply, so it can be sanded away with that same diamond bit, just using lower rpm.
@ranlettlopezmusic7 жыл бұрын
That is beautiful.. Can you carve metal with those tips?
7 жыл бұрын
Diamond tips can be used for metals, as tungsten carbide cutters too. High speed cutters are for wood. I made metallic version from stainless steel in this way: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJ7JZ6drmc1qaK8 Stainless steel is little harder to shape than mild steel, but i like the result is nicer with stainless.

This probably balsa wood, you can just get a cheap 2x4 at home depot, saw off a 2 inch cube and get to grinding:P this also looks really smooth at the end, he probably sanded it before applying a finish

What kind of do you need for something like that
8 жыл бұрын
+OSIEL ALVARADO Actually its very simple. Needs only a little geometry and some patience.. sharing it to sectors is a huge help. That spearhead tip is most important, diamond tip or tungsten carbide cutter.
