Thanks to Richard for joining us & lending his Teslas - / rsymonsltd
It’s time for another carwow electric car range test!
We’ve got the new Tesla Model 3 Long Range Performance going up against the new entry-level Model 3 Standard Range Plus and the Polestar 2!
All three cars will start with a fully charged battery, and they’re going head-to-head on laps of the M25 in London to see which goes the furthest!
When you just look at the stats, it seems like it’ll be a walk over for the Long Range Performance, given it has a claimed range of 352 miles, compared to the 278 and 292 miles of the Standard Range Plus and Polestar 2 respectively.
But will it play out like that?! Or will their claimed ranges vary wildly in the real world, just like we've seen in our previous EV range tests? There’s only one way to find out… Let’s GO!

Best car ever. If you want to pay luxury car price for a car with quality like a Lada Samara. Except the Lada does not look like a dead fish in the front. And with the Lada you dont have to wait forever for it to charge when on roadtrips. And the battery power in the Tesla slowly dies upon you, year by year it gets worse, decreasing the range. Tesla fanboys only "love it" because they are fools and don´t understand cars. 99.9% are environmentalists who think they can "change the world". Except battery powered cars are not really that great for the environment because it needs huge amounts of metals and the batteries can not be recycled in an easy way today. Also, the electricity needs to be clean for it to be of any benefit at all. Most probably are not, depending on where you live of course

21 miles difference between the Tesla 2 and Polestar. With the new OTA update and standard wheels on the Polestar my guess is nothing would be between them range wise with the Tesla winning on the charge speed front. Simple: you DON'T flip through the menus while driving, because those are settings you adjust once, when you first get into the car (including wheel and side mirrors position). @cofal79 3 жыл бұрын
So this was before the update... Also if Polestar could cheese it like Tesla does it, it will run longer. What does i mean with cheesing it? Tesla run their AWDs mostly on the rear motor, and the front motor on demand. That's why it have slightly higher energy consumption as SR+. Polestar 2 runs its both motors constantly, making it have a higher consumption than actually needed. And how does I know its using mostly its rear motor, well it have been tested on slippery Norwegian roads, where the tail slips out before the front grabs in and steer it strait again. Its noticeable that front is inactive on normal driving in these conditions. Also an inactive motor also slightly regen... So front motor is on demand not permantly on like Polestar 2. Also Polestar 2 dont have heat pump until recently. The same goes for Model 3, as Musk was against heat pump in the start. So If Polestar/Volvo did the same it will increase range major. But then again it will be as nervous as the Model 3 is on slippery roads, commonly known on RWD cars. Just going 20/80 would increase range alot on the Polestar/Volvo and 50/50 on demand. Compared to Tesla 0/100 and 50/50 on demand. But then again we can pull the Tesla argument. Polestar is a newer company than Tesla so give them some slack, like the 10 years Tesla been making cars and still are considered new company... But i rather take the Polestar 2 before picking any Tesla, and I just ordered the XC40 because its a better car than Tesla overall. Also I dont want to give money to Musk! I rather give it to the chinese! And wisphers is that EU gonna force Tesla to open up their charger network

@zaliah of course you cant tell cuz you know nothing about cars or maybe you are just a little tesla fan boy. So for facts: Taycan beated model s ludacrious bla bla, tesla had more power ( like 50-70 hp more ), tesla had more torque and weighted less. Wow and still lost to taycan. Now little tesla is coming with an upgrade 300-400 more hp so can beat on edge the Porsche. One more thing: when Porsche wants they make! Proof is everywhere just open the closed eyes. They launched Taycan they smashed model S with 10 years EV market experience haha

Another brilliant "consumer advice" video - I always find these EV real-world range tests really interesting... especially to see the "what-happens-when-it-dies" moment and also the % range vs claimed range (always going to be lower than "laboratory-tested" WLTP...!)

I think it just looks better overall. Compared to the Teslas, that is. And since it's technically a Volvo, it's probably better built as well.

I guess the extra 500kg of the Polestar is really hurting it. They really need to work on getting that weight down.

Sounds like either a battery temperature or charger issue with the Polestar’s 60% charging speed. The Fastned charging curve graph suggests you should be getting 70kW at that percentage: support.fastned.nl/hc/en-gb/articles/360012258358-Charging-with-a-Polestar-2

I bet it's Protocol Negotiations issues. The Charger does not understand how to communicate with Polestar deeply enough to give it full power.

Polestar recently did an update to improve efficiency and charge speed. I wonder if this car hadn't received the update yet. Charge speed is much more impressive on those with the update - peaks quickly at 150kW then drops a lot then climbs/drops/climb drops. More like a charge staircase than charge curve

@Neojhun 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrischild3667 That was not a case of limitations. It was just a Protocol Error not allowing the two systems to function properly together. It would have to be fixed eventually. Just wierd considering Polestar 2 has been in Customer ownership for several months now.

For me, the dash in the Tesla was a dealbreaker. I was so disappointed when they launched with that serving plank. Then, there was the question of the towing capacity or even availability of a tow hook. Had to go for the Polestar 2 even though the charging is completely bonkers and it uses electrons like a physics experiment.

The Teslas looking cute actually! + I can use the dashboard as a shoe storage for longer distance driving because it's so flat or even put some plants on it🤔

Hey Matt I love how your getting more into EV’s. It’s educating the public into hopefully looking out for the future of the planet. I feel like you should have included a NIO and Lucid Motors vehicle to compare in this type of distance race. Love the videos, keep it up.
