I bought a new Zoe last year and for the most part, except for the satnav shortcomings, I love it. Its range is generous, the ride compliant, seats comfortable and in my opinion the design, remarkably still fresh and modern looking despite being unaltered since introduction, graceful and elegant from every angle - a big selling point for me. No surprise that for a very long time it's been the best selling BEV in France. (Being a card-carrying technophobe all I now have to do - and I'm serious - is discover how to switch the radio on. Modern cars are so complex. On the move my last vehicle had to be legally accompanied in front by a man at walking pace waving a red flag.)

I'm driving the top of the range version of this car, it's a 2020 model ZE50, until my Megane E-Tech arrives next week. I think it's brilliant, I'm a big bloke and have found it comfortable, the handling is fine, but I'm not a hooligan. The boot is huge for a little hatchback apart from the sub woofer takes up a bit of space in the boot. The infotainment system is better than any other car I've used, that includes a BMW330E, Audi E-Tron, VW ID4 and a Hyundai Kona Electric. I agree with all Matt's negatives, but the positives far out weigh them. I was astounded that I could do 200 miles on the motorway in eco mode. No doubt you could knock 50 miles off that in the winter. A really good practical car IMHO.

Hi Mat, interesting review but nitpicking a little I think. Regarding not having 'park mode' - not really needed because of the 'auto brake hold' function when you come to a stop, handbrake will then turn on after a period of time if you haven't set off again. Glove box is a little small but I suppose it's called a glove box for a reason. We put the cars manual etc in the seat pocket, and no, nothing falls out when turning corners! You can purchase boot underfloor storage, if you're lucky the dealer might throw one in for you. To be honest we haven't had any issues accessing things in there without one. Infortainment screen is super easy to use and has the best satnav out of the bunch in my opinion, and will even search for nearest charge points if you need one. Overall the best all rounder as a Fiesta sized replacement. Completely happy with ours.

Some critique do have a point. Zoe has many shortcomings and its main advantage is that, it is quite "cheap". So there's a reason for its popularity not only in 2020 but in last 7 years actually. And I'm saying it as a Renault fan, who just bought new Megane. Car half that expensive with far superior features.

Zoe is one of the few electric cars that may be able to AC charge at 3-phase 32 amps which is equal to 22KW. This is very useful in the city as many 11KW chargers will do 22KW if there is only one car at the charger.

That's the problem right now with electric cars. Entry level ones aren't that great and they're really expensive.

@@mediacc8372 Exactly! When you consider that, its mindblowing! This car is worth around £15k so in the lifetime of this car you will have to go through another £15k worth of fuel. it will take about 20 years for the average user to start paying off this extra £15k 😱😭🤯

@@beemaniauk you forget that electric cars are much cheaper to run and to maintain, and you have government grants that lower the price of the car

It is a really bad car. I had one for a year, the on board computer is useless, so as the navigation. Lots of cheap and annoying solution. In winter less than 100 miles, if you going highway with heating less than 75. Wasn't able to do a Luton pickup from North London??? Front headlight was useless, AC was like your upper body is sweating and your leg is freezing. I bought a cheaper 6 years older Lexus Hybrid, 100 times better in every single way.

I recently read a real winter test of electric cars in the Northern Europe. The heating system was so inadequate that at a certain temperature (around -15°c) the car just wouldn't get warm. In the end it was by far the worst of the available electric cars, but this new one probably fixes some of those problems.

@@I_THE_ME Its not really a new one, just a mild facelift (in my opinion). It is not cheap but so many annoying and cheap short cut solutions all around the car... Unreal. Also I had a full black out on the screen, they sent me a renault pen-drive from France to reinstall the car system??? I saw a YT test 2 months ago and same thing happened to this facelift version. I mean seriously renault?

@@Mark__A We traded in our 2018 40kw model for this new 50kw one, honestly it feels and drives like a completely different car. Even the central screen and computer are not that bad at all. Maybe it doesn't feel premium *enough* yet for the price point, but it's a much better attempt than the previous one. At times for me it feels a lot like the BMW i3. Vibes

@@TomHarleUK I'm glad its getting better, but honestly a 30k car which is outperformed in every single way by a half price super reliable hybrid Lexus? Our Zoe, 40kw don't have an armrest at all, I needed to go back to the dealership to buy one, it wasn't even on the options list. No alarm at all, the triangle window was smashed Christmas eve in front of my house, and the Zoe said please feel free to open the door and take what ever you like. My 20 years old Volvo V70 if its locked, you stick one finger inside trough the window, alarm. Smashing the window? Still unable to open because the door handle unhooks it self after locking. Battery out? No problem there is a hidden secondary battery in it. Summer? You sweating apart from your toes, they freezing. Winter? No range, no heating. Headlights? Way too weak. Interior quality? Non existent. It was good to use between 10 to 20 degrees, in town. B roads or motorway? Forget the overtaking. It was too much for me, I sold it put back 4k on my account and from the rest bought a Lexus which is amazing in every single way. Still doing the regen braking, EV mode, 60+ MPG in town. Every single button, function you can feel the engineering. They tried it many times to make it better and better. It is from a different universe for sure. Not to mention no option for memory seats on an electric car? Ahhh I'm sorry to say but I glad its gone.
