Not sure if anyone is still monitoring this feed but I'm a little confused. I'm just now exploring making my home a smart home. I have 5 or 6 areas in my home that have 3-way switches. The builder put in dimmers but my can lighting has always flickered. I recently replaced all the flood lights (bulbs in the ceiling can lights) with a single housing LED light. I now want to add smart dimmers. Does Lutron Caseta come in a hard wired twin pack? Is the only way to do this is making sure there is this "pico" remote included? If that is the case do I really need to pay attention to the package saying its a 3-way switch? I'm so confused by all of this because I am seeing specs on several of the Caseta dimmers where it says it's not 3-way compatible yet it has the pico remote included. What am I missing here??

Learned the hard way. Get a voltage wand. Know which black wire is hot. Connect all your white wires together. Connect one of the black (the hot wire) to one of the black wires on the Lutron. The other black wire (traveler wire) to the other black wire to the Lutron. Attach your ground (copper wire) to the green wire. On the other 3-way switch - connect all black wires together. Connect all white wires together. Cap the copper wire. Done!

Does a Pico remote control need to be used? Can you install a Caseda dimmer and leave a 3-way toggle switch on the other end? I tried using a 3-way toggle with the yellow jumper wire, but couldn’t get it to work correctly.

Is this type of 3-way switch available without the dimmer feature? I need to add additional switch to existing wiring that has two 3-way and three 4-way mechanical switches for my exterior flood lights.

Hello, The PD-6ANS could be installed for single pole, 3 -way, or 4-way applications. For a 3-way application, you could either use it in conjunction with a standard 3-way mechanical switch or with Pico remotes (model: PJ2-2B-GWH-L01) and a Pico wall box adapter (PICO-WBX-ADAPT). For 4-way applications, you would need to replace the other switch in the circuits with Pico remotes (model: PJ2-2B-GWH-L01) and a Pico wall box adapters (PICO-WBX-ADAPT). Please refer to the following document for more information: (www.casetawireless.com/Documents/0301710a_Caseta%20Advanced%20Inst.pdf ). Hope this helps!

This is the setup I have : 1. Master / main switch - this needs to be in ON position otherwise light will NOT turn on. This has a Black wire coming into Common (I think) and 1 Black and 1 Pink wires connected to the travellers. 2. Dimmer switch with on/off - this works only if the main switch is on. It has Black coming into Common (verified on swtich) and 1 Black and 1 pink on travellers. The light is in the middle physically and I think that is how the circuit is set up. I am wondering if I can just combine all the wires of the 2nd switch (ie one with Dimmer switch) using a single nut as shown in the video and use this location for Pico. I would replace the master switch with the Caseta wireless dimmer. My concern is if it is safe to combine those 3 wires in the Dimmer switch ? Thank you !

This a great switch, and I have installed 2 separate ones for incandescent and LED lights, even though I never have to dim the lights. Does anyone know why they will not work with fluorescent bulbs, even if you do not intend to ever dim them? BTW: I did try it, and like they say it does NOT work!
@Lutron-Electronics
@Lutron-Electronics 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, Fluorescent bulbs typically require a special type of dimmer to operate them, such as a 3-wire dimmer, which the Caséta Wireless is not. The Caséta Wireless dimmers are capable of controlling compact fluorescent bulbs, as long as they are dimmable. Thanks

Hi Timothy, When installing a Caséta Wireless dimmer in a 3-way with an existing 3-way switch, Lutron would recommend using the PD-10NXD. For more information on this application, please visit (pg 30-32): www.casetawireless.com/Documents/0301710a_Caseta%20Advanced%20Inst.pdf Otherwise, if using a PD-6WCL, a Pico remote is required at the other wall box location. Hope this helps!

Thanks for reaching out! The Caseta in-wall dimmers and switches need to be directly wired to a load for functionality. Only one dimmer or switch can be installed per circuit - the remaining wall box locations will need to be Pico Remotes. why connect both travelers and not just one?
@Lutron-Electronics
@Lutron-Electronics 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Roberto. Thanks for reaching out! You could connect only one traveler, and cap off the other traveler wire. We just thought it would have a cleaner look in the wall box, plus this would only require the use of one wire nut instead of two. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
@SweepeasPoppa

well i'm confused. None of the illustrations show a neutral wire(s). Most installations use 3-wire cable: a black, red, and white. Don't you have to isolate the travelers? Is this different than the maestro and companion? maybe that is where I am confused.
@Lutron-Electronics
@Lutron-Electronics 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Murray. Thanks for reaching out. 3-way wiring for a PD-6WCL will be significantly different than a Maestro/companion dimmer 3-way. Since the PD-6WCL only has 2 wires (besides the ground), we essentially create single-pole wiring (by combining the travelers) since the Pico doesn’t get any wires connected to it. All 3 wires that were connected to your old switch (at the Pico location) will get connected together. You will need to identify the traveler wires at your PD-6WCL location since both travelers will connect to the same wire on the Caséta Wireless dimmer. The remaining wire coming from your wall (common) will connect to the remaining wire on the Caséta Wireless dimmer. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
@SweepeasPoppa
@SweepeasPoppa 7 жыл бұрын
so in effect your illustration excludes neutral wires that are usually in one of the switch boxes (unless they are in the ceiling box which is less common today-plus I believe the latest NEC requires a neutral wire present in a switch box that is being fed) and only illustrates hot and switch legs? Again, I was expecting a 3-wire cable and only saw black conductors which added to my confusion. I appreciate the reply and hope I have communicated well in phrasing my question.

+Patrick Conway new Lutron owner here trying to do something similar. I have canned lights that are rigged 3-ways that i would like to just have a single dimmer switch on it. Looks like you could keep one switch with a traditional rocker switch and at the other location have your lutron dimmer. What was the setup you were going for and what did you end up doing?

+Sean Scott I abandoned the dimmer on one side, and put a Pico remote in its place. Was a matter of tying up the wires in the box. on the other side, I installed the Caseta as a "regular" dimmer. I tie them all back into a Wink hub.
@SeanScott77
@SeanScott77 8 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Conway thanks for the quick response. Sounds like my plan of just tying up the wires in the secondary location (no pico or extra dimmer) and putting a dimmer at my main connection place will work. I have the bridge pro so can leverage their app. BTW how do you like Wink?

@@Lutron-Electronics I'm in the same boat as the others. Retrofitting a whole house. Have had previous experience with Maestro dimmers, which had LEDs at both ends that went up and down to represent the level. That is the ideal. Was under the impression Caseta was more high end, but clearly it's more gimmicky, instead. Now have to go look at your RA series bridge, and Leviton for good measure, again. Hate having to spend this time and make these stupid compromises.

So basically you're saying that I can't tell what level the lights are set to on the pico remote, like I can with the dimmer switch when it's off. Please figure out how to have two Caseta dimmer switches communicate with each other to make a 3 way circuit. Then I will buy these.
@mr_tom_1_0
@mr_tom_1_0 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the way Maestros will. Those are done right. Caseta seems to be their "smart home" primary product, though. You get a remote but, it's more gimmicky and so you just know it's not going to be as solid.

This is such a horrible design. I have a "3-way --- 4-way --- 3-way" switch setup and would simply like to replace one of my 3-way switches. Why in the world would I want to buy some "pico" on batteries when the power is right there in the box and I don't even need to replace all switches. And I still don't even know if it's possible in my case with this silly "pico"? Why couldn't you just leave the connections conventional?
