@@endless013 It's funny you should say that. My family lived like 5 blocks from Casa bonita when I was a child, and I convinced them to take me there when I was like 6. They refused to ever take me back again no matter how much I begged cause they said that was the worst mexican food they've ever eaten in their life. I don't really remember what it tasted like as it was around 26 years ago since that happened, but man it bummed me out that I never got to go back.

@@fraisertinko yeah, you have to sign up and they put you on a waiting list (we were on it for months before we got randomly selected). It’s like you walk into a Mexican hacienda with little stores, displays, the caves.. it’s worth checking out! We got a seat right next to the cliff divers so we got to watch them dive while we ate our lunch. It’s not too crowded, but there is a lot of people walking around exploring the restaurant as well.

This is one of those episodes where the aspects of Colorado make an impact on the plot. Casa Bonita is an actual restaurant. It's been a cultural staple of Denver for decades and was a very popular field trip destination when I was a kid. Several of the trips I got to take during school were to go there, and the recreation as depicted by the show is very spot on. The food was terrible, but for kids the side entertainment was excellent. The depiction is pretty spot on from the perspective of those who live here, but it constantly amazes me just how much of an impact this episode had on people outside our state. The amount of people who seem to thrill in how over the top Casa Bonita was in the show is surprising, and watching their minds blow when I tell them it's real, the show was fairly accurate about it, and I've been there many times is always fun to see.

I just went to Casa Bonita a few months ago. They are in the process of Beta testing all the new stuff since Matt and Trey renovated it. It was magic when I was a kid, but now it's even better because the food is 10x better. And they added a permanent Cartman fixture on the upper floor right where this episode showed him sitting. Good stuff. And I thought you couldn't say "South Park", then you said it several times later in this video.

On the subject of locals someone who lived less than 2 miIes from the Casa Bonita as a kid, I don't know if it's still around but I remember being in love with this magic shop that was right to the left of Casa Bonita in this sort of corner shop when I was a child. We'd go there regularly and the guy who owned the place would always do magic tricks if I asked about one of the ones he was selling as he used to be a professional magician. I remember when I was around 8 I bought one of his magic kits, and I remember when I got home realizing I had the same amount of money as before I bought it. I realized the owner slipped the money I have him back in my pocket somehow when I didn't notice. I remember coming back again when I was around 17 after the episode came out and mentioned the episode to him. He said he saw it and admitted to me that his business was really struggling at that point and wished south park would have placed it next to casa bonita in the episode instead of some random generic store and I felt bad and bought some stuff even though I didn't really play with magic tricks much by that point. God I hope that place is still around. That dude was so nice.
