Toy & Tori Dark Helmet is played Rick Moranis. Rick Moranis has a long career in entertainment. Then 1997, Rick took a hiatus from acting to raising his children after his wife died in 1991. In 1997, Rick became full time father. Then Rick is slowly returning to acting with a few selected roles. Rick reprised his Dark Helmet to voice the villain on the sitcom, The Goldbergs in 2018. Besides Spaceballs, Rick starred in Honey, I shrunk the kids and its sequel, Honey, I blew up the kid. In 2020, Rick signed on for 3rd sequel in Shrink (Blew Up) series for "Shrunk"

One of my all time favourite movies! Rick Moranis ended up costing Mel Brooks "a lot" of money, since the crew (including Brooks) couldn't help but laugh during his scenes, most notably when he first appears on screen and has breathing problems. George Lucas lended the services of his company ILM to shoot some scenes. The escape pod dropping out was actually a (once) deleted scene from A New Hope. He agreed to let Brooks make the movie on the condition that he couldn't make merchandise, hence the running gag throughout the movie. And he didn't want Lone Star to dress like Han, so Brooks chose to dress him like Indiana Jones. Rick Moranis improvised the entire scene where he plays with his dolls, he was sick and had a fever that day and still came up with one of the best scenes. The original title was Planet Moron. Brooks had a bad reaction to the Yogurt make up and got a bad rash around his eyes. The voice Dark Helmet has when his... dark helmet visor is down is inspired by David Prowse, the physical actor for Darth Vader in the original trilogy, and how he sounded with the mask on set. You can find footage of it.

Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein (which parodies the Boris Karloff Frankenstein movie & its two sequels, Bride of Frankenstein & Son of Frankenstein), High Anxiety (which parodies a lot of Alfred Hitchcock's movies such as Vertigo, Birds & Psycho), History of the World part 1 (Originally there wasn't a part 2, but they recently made a part 2 in TV-show form), Robin Hood: Men in Tights (parodies Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves & the Errol Flynn Robin Hood movie) & Dracula: Dead & Loving It (parodies Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula movie & the Bela Lugosi Dracula movie). Here's three very underrated Mel Brooks movies that are worth watching: The Twelve Chairs, Silent Movie (which parodies the silent movie genre) & Life Stinks.

He would always glitch and repeat things and stutter....in the Pizza the Hut scene, the robotic assistant and the guy who directs the call to that was a reference to Max Hedroom. 🙂 Lots of good things happened in 1987....the release of the IBM PS/2 line, IBM's first PC to use the new 80386, the first PC programs that made use of CD-ROM, such as Microsoft Bookshelf (it was text only!) and encyclopedias on the Mac that had graphics, and also the liquid nitrogen superconductor (way warmer than liquid helium ones), three Friday the 13ths.....and, my personal favorite event of 1987, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was released! 🙂

Fun Facts: Although there are many jokes about merchandise, Spaceballs didn't actually have any. Apparently George Lucas asked Mel not to make any, which led to the merchandise jokes/gags within the film. George also asked Mel not to have a character dressed like Han Solo, so Lone Starr is dressed like Indiana Jones instead. Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), which was owned by Lucas, did the special effects for the film. The Millennium Falcon (or a ship that looks just like it) is parked outside the space diner.

Toy and Tori missed some of the references:The Millennium Falcon is parked at the space diner and The Planet of the Apes scene at the end,Rhonda Shear was the waitress at the diner and Tim Russ(Tuvok)was the guy combing the desert.
