Quest 3 if you have the budget. Pico 4 best overall for it's price, just sad for its unknown future also still only available in Europe and Asia. PSVR2 if you don't have a powerful PC but have PS5 and wish to play beautiful games. Note: You will have to take a break every 4 or so hours to recharge the PSVR2 controllers, good to keep in mind if sharing the headset or being a big time gamer.

As someone who only plays PCVR, I use a Pico 4 Pro which has face tracking (cuz im a vtuber lol) and the clarity is pretty dam good and while i had lots of wifi connection issues with Virtual Desktop, Pico just uses its own PC connection program that has no lag even in areas with less wifi (which was a problem I had with my quest 2 for literal years before I got Pico 4 Pro) and all my trackers work in my setup!

@asawyer2872 if affordable. Currys have done the quest 2 as low as £199 recently. £500 is simply out of reach or too much for an early tech for huge amounts of people. At 200-250 the quest 2 has loads of life left, an extensive catalogue of software and a low barrier to entry. The quest 3 has touched £400 recently and that is a good price which if sustained would really be good value

Thank you so much, ma'am! I've been researching for about 4 hours now and this video paired with some of the other things prior to watching has helped me a lot! The Bigscreen Beyond does sound like a great choice especially with the small form factor, 1 of 1 craftsmanship, not to mention OLED display, but, I think I'll be going with the Meta Quest 3 even though it's LCD and has a not so satisfying battery life. I'm a first time buyer so this to me would be an obvious choice. It's said that the Quest 3 is better than the Quest 2 while also needing the debate of whether it's better than a Valve Index (which seems to be 50/50). I like the idea of not being tethered in and being able to use the Meta Quest 3 as sort of like a multi tool if you will. It also has Steam Link which is a huge plus!
@nintendoconvert4045

I don’t know if it’s just me, but the Steam VR update has done wonders for wireless PCVR for me. Not only does Steam Link work very well, Virtual Desktop is performing better! I have a decent gaming laptop (Ryzen 9 5980HX, RX 6800M) and I stopped playing PCVR due to hiccups. I tried it again because of Steam Link, and I swear it’s improved. Anyone else experience the same? Maybe it’s just a placebo, but please let me know!
@guymcfly7282

I believe Steam Link utilizes the feature that pixelates areas of the screen around your peripheral to increase performance. That may have much to do with it.
@nintendoconvert4045
@nintendoconvert4045 10 ай бұрын
@@guymcfly7282 it does do that- it’s foveated encoding. Foveated rendering would help PC performance, but foveated encoding helps with bandwidth / connectivity. It’s possible my hiccups were mostly wireless bandwidth issues and maybe Steam Link alleviated that. Going back to VD, the hiccups are still there for me- so my initial thought about being improved might have been circumstantial. Steam Link, however, is smoother every time so far. I have a Quest Pro with eye tracking, so the foveated encoding isn’t even noticeable like it would be on a Quest 3. This might be the best wireless option for QP owners. Tip I saw somewhere: for a better image in Steam Link, disable the Advanced Supersample Filtering - it makes the image look too soft. But, if you don’t have a headset with eye tracking, the foveated encoding might be a dealbreaker regardless of the Advanced Supersample Filtering.
@nintendoconvert4045
@nintendoconvert4045 8 ай бұрын
@@guymcfly7282 I believe you’re right! The foveated encoding limits bandwidth and therefore less stutters. I use a Quest Pro with eye tracking enabled in Steam Link, so I don’t even see encoding difference on Steam Link- it’s awesome!

Nice round up. I have a Quest 2 and 3. Quest 3 is definitely a nice step up and feels more refined. The improved sharpeness has been huge for me as I even can be productive in VR via apps like Immersed as text is readable. Now just need more apps to roll out Quest 3 updates to take advantage of the faster chip.

One big elephant in the room she failed to mention about PCVR is Quest 3 supports occlusion and you can select areas to place over graphic elements really amazing with Microsoft Flight Sim. and DCS World. I've never gotten into Quest headsets, the faceplate and IPD has always been too small. I'd like the Bigscreen Beyond, but they don't make it with an IPD of 75mm. I have a HP Reverb G2, gave it to one of my daughters, it also had an IPD and faceplate that was too small. I've had the Vive and Vive Pro, the light houses and controllers still work after 6 years, and I have a Pimax 8KX with Index controllers and a new PC with a RTX4080, I'm pretty happy with this set up. I have a PSVR2, very impressed with it, since it has an IPD range of 58 to 75mm, foveated rendering and eye tracking, if this came in a PC VR headset, I would consider upgrading, and it is cheaper than PC VR. There is no proposed or current PC VR headset on my shopping list, I might be interested in the Quest 3, but it is too expensive in Australia. I'm going to wait for some more VR advancements and for manufacturers to make one that goes to 75mm IPD.

When I first got my quest2 I thought I was gonna only use it for pcvr. I only bought the 128gb model but I almost instantly regretted it. When I bought a quest 3 I went for the 512gb model. Having stand alone is very very nice. I ended up using it like 50/50. Stand alone is great to take it and play on the go. I do vr lan parties with my buddies. Also many times I’m too lazy to turn on my pc and just play the stand alone version. Many games are crossbuy on the oculus store. That being said you already have the big screen beyond so for you it’s a harder buy.

I'm not in the VR world yet, but this was a helpful summery. I was starting to consider getting myself a VR headset, but it looks to me like they are still to much of a financial investment and not advanced as far as I would personally enjoy yet. maybe this year a new VR device will come out that looks like what I've been waiting for, and then maybe another year the price will be down a bit and not too unreasonable. but likely another 3 or 4 years wait for me unfortunately.

I’m intrigued by the Bigscreen Beyond but the low FoV combined with non-shareable nature despite high price kill it off for me. I’m really waiting for Pimax‘s upcoming wide FoV version of the Crystal, the 12K. In the meantime I am getting back into VR after being too lazy/tired for a while, enjoying my Pimax 8KX. It’s hard to contemplate giving up the wide FoV when you have to pay so much again for a new headset.

Had to spend another 150 dollars to make it comfortable. Tried the Quest 2 and was just a reminder of why I hated my Quest. I just got a Pico 4 after much research and so far I am loving it. I don't have any VR/AR experience yet and I'm completely new to this area, which is why I'm overwhelmed by the amount of glasses on offer. So I hope you can give me some advice. I'm looking for a pair of glasses that I can use as Mixed reality glasses when I'm sitting comfortably on the couch, want to watch a movie, but also have the mobility to go to the kitchen and continue watching my movie (just as an example). Or should I say to do my work while cooking? Yeah, sounds more professional 😂 But as a typical PC gamer, it should also be able to serve as VR glasses with good resolution and sufficient viewing distance. Perhaps I should say at this point that I enjoy playing Star Citizen, so I'm really spoiled when it comes to graphic details. So I am looking for something that can actually do everything and has good performance, but most glasses always have a handicap such as a closed ecosystem and therefore cannot be used for other games or just that the resolution or hardware is generally weak. Can you think of any glasses that are currently worth recommending? Or should I wait and see what other glasses will be available in 2024? A big thank you in advance and greetings from Germany

@RagnarCrumpets The greatest downside to the Apple is a 100 degree field of view. Not sure what they were thinking. It does however also have the lowest range of interpupillary distance (IPD) which I imagine relates to the narrow FOV, so there is a plus side for children or anyone who has a narrow IPD

The Index is still a good headset, but with its age and current price tag, many seem to not recommend it anymore. It's hard to recommend for $1000 compared to other headsets at the same price now. If they were to drop the price to a more realistic $600-$700 max, it would be easier to recommend in 2024.

@@darkmaster2110 for me price wasn't an issue, the index fits my needs better than the quest 3, but for someone that has to work with a budget, I can understand why someone would go for the quest 3 instead. Its just for me the index had things that suited my needs more. Because I dont really care much for the high resolution, and was more a fan of the index controllers and tracking. Pity the Charge stand doesn't charge the Controllers as well. Seems only Meta has so far a complete charging offer and is probably why it's so expensive :(.

If anyone finds a third party stand which comes with battery packs for the controllers and charges them, please let me know!

just bought quest 3 a couple of months ago and i have to admit that i'm not satisfied at all. i use it mostly for gaming (pcvr) and the headset with headstrap included is simply too heavy for longer usage...i hope this year will bring out more small factor opportunities into the market.

Just buy a headstrap and problem solved. Go for third party if you don't want to pay much.

A question, you who have tried both scopes, which is better visually in general, quest pro or pico 4?
@Starfish_the_guy
@Starfish_the_guy 8 ай бұрын
Why would you go for the quest pro? It's more expensive then the 3 and has less power and it's uncomfortable (for me anyway) but like it is a better viewing experience than the pico but I personally wouldn't go for it tbh

I do like the Quest 3. The BoboVR M3 Pro is ok for a headstrap (I definitely prefer the halo design, but I find it just a tad slippy). Too bad Meta screwed up the microphone on the headset so badly. Hopefully it's solvable with a software update.
@KYJs
@KYJs 10 ай бұрын
meta will likely fix the microphone issues, q3 uses the same mic as q2 only it's in a different position that's closer to your mouth which makes more popping. they just need to implement some sort of noise suppression

I got the psvr2 for call of the mountain but im really disappointed with the flow of new games. I love the "i expect you to die" series, i played 1 and 2 on the psvr, but the 3rd game has been out for months and the devs show no sign of porting the 3rd game to the psvr2 anytime soon, if ever.
