Glad you figured out. I’ve been watching your videos and wanted to tell you how to do it. The Over Center is a Case exclusive and it’s awesome! Takes so much bounce out of the machine when driving.

There are very few videos on the web that adequately explain this process. Your's is probably better than most. Could improve it by showing the lock assembly. Also the reversing of the hydraulic controls as the boom passes over center is due to the geometry of the boom cylinder. A little time spent explain the simple angular relation of the cylinder and the boom in each step would be very helpful. I've got a 580SE and have had the lock up process become impossible over time. A common problem as the boom cylinder wears out and loses lifting power. Rebuild the cylinder and the problem is solved. Really enjoy your adventures with this machine. Old but still a workhorse.

Hi Mike. My JD 300 uses pins to lock both the swival and boom. Very interesting setup on your Case. Liked,shared. All my best.

Yeah I just figured this out last night myself. Funny to see it here a day later, but good to know I got it right. The how is explained in the manual, but not the why. Once the why (boom overcenter) is known, then it all makes sense. Pretty cool design.

Dont feel bad I did the same thing I've always been on john deere backhoes and I bought a 580c for the farm and I got it to lock once by pure luck and could never figure it out until I found a video on youtube explaining it.

Great work Mike!! I think I noticed in the vid that the backhoe frame looks loose from the tractor frame??..that old case is coming back to life, and I'm happy for you!

Would like to see your view while you’re doing that, and what the lock looks like and how to disengage

Mine would drift down from the fully raised position when it was locked up, so I would reach back and give the lever a touch to keep it tight.

Dont think my 480 has that. Is that a kog splitter you have welded on your boom?

Thanks for explaining how that works.

Yup that’s exactly how to do it, also if you hold pressure on the bucket leaver it will be smoother, takes a little practice but, try it you will see

Noticed the engine continues to run rough. Could it be that it's in need of a valve job or is it something else?
@mikekisch55634 жыл бұрын
yes i think low compression or possibly a valve.

Trust me Mike, you are not the only one with this dilemma as rented my first back hoe many years ago and I get up there with no one telling me how as they said; have you ran a hoe before? Sure... on tracks..so rather than embarrass myself call a friend who falls out laughing, the last thing I want to hear and he tells me basically what you showed and then life was good but here we go again as it won't just hook itself...another phone call.... ya. I have repaired just about any smaller than huge mines equipment and test run but to set there how hard could it be... lots harder than given first credit for. Why I commented is a problem your going to have and probably already know and that is it bends up front someplace and it is bucking when you do the boom like something up front is loose. If it bent in middle then I would point there but your on tires so I would be looking for where that slack is coming from just saying as if it falls off, you might take it back where you found it... just check it out or tell me to shut up about loo loo!

i think i know what you are talking about. its the backhoe point of attachment. it has some slop in it. it is kind of a quick attach backhoe. the backhoe isnt part of the frame.

@@mikekisch5563 NO... behind your back as watch video and see if you can tell what I refer to. It has a serious buck or gap somewhere on the front end of said tractor. I know if you spot it you then will look for it

you still havent gotten a cordless mic that will clip on to your shirt your hat whatever. when your 10 plus feet from the camera mic and a machine is running you cant be heard. do you NOT see this when you edit your videos?
@mikekisch55634 жыл бұрын
i am glad for the comment. here is what i envision with a cordless mic Me shooting a bunch of video and then going to edit it just to realize the mic did not record correctly. i have considered it, but i dont know if i want to deal with the frustration of one.
