I worked a a CaseIH dealer when the Magnums were first introduced. I remember CaseIH mailing out a postcard with a picture of a partial headlight on the new tractors. It read “You’ll see the light on mm/dd/yr”... don’t remember the exact date. They were good looking tractors.

Primarily a Green guy here .. But I ran the classic Magnums a lot too - 7140, 7150 and 8950. Nice tractors .. roomy cab and good power .. But they all ran HOTTER than HELL! All that fancy styling and constrictive hood work - along with a wimpy cooling system .. didn't allow for good airflow .. and seems like they were always running in the yellow. When chisel plowing or pulling a big disk .. I was always removing the engine hood side covers and tossing them in a hedgerow somewhere. Didn't help much .. but would run a bar or sometimes two cooler. Compared to a Deere 4850 or 4955 .. you could work the shit out of them all day .. and they'd rarely go above half on the temp. gauge.

Have a 7220 Magnum it’s a solid tractor even though I love my John Deere’s.Everybody that owns an older Magnum tends to keep running them !

The 1987-1998 Magnums are solid machines. They just keep going and going. The 7220 is my favorite tractor in the original series.

Nice outfit overall. Good information as always. I ran a friend's 7130 working ground helping them out over the years. Then they traded it off & got a MX240. It was another nice outfit to run. Stay safe.

IH drivetrain and cab, Cummins engine, the only thing from Case on a boxcar magnum is the grill. Other than that it is an International Harvester with a Cummins engine

What I call a proper tractor! In my younger days, John Deere tractors were "proper good Tractors", but since then, the John Deere tractor company appears to have been taken over by the likes of the Apple company, hence why it has heavily invested in selling glorious high tech that has a very short and expensive shelf life, just like an iPhone.

Not sure of the exact year, but around about 2010 one of my farmer friends bought a Case Magnum just before the prices were inflated by about 30%. Pricing conspiracy? You decide.

The 8950 is one solid tractor. It is as popular with red fans as the Deere 4960 is with green fans.

@@bigtractorpower That was in the old days before the tractor manufacturing companies were taken over by the "money men". In the old days, tractors were designed by men of the soil, but not any more. A 20 year old tractor will still be fit for work in 20 years from now so long as its not worn out. In 20 years from now a current tractor will be completely useless unless its owner is prepared to pay for the maintenance of its high tech. Human beings have a natural instinct to go camping and to be self-sufficient. Modern day tractors are the exact opposite of such.

We didn't get 8900-series here in Europe. Case IH sold 7200 Pro-series at same time here, those have also vertical grille, maybe same tractors with different numbering. 🤔

There must have been regulations or requirements in Europe that made it more difficult to introduce a tractor or combine? The 8900 series was only on the market 2 years so maybe a 7200 Pro was easier to offer than a new a new series? It seems like John Deere did offer the 60 series like the 4960 but rather offered an updated 4955. Maybe a similar reason???

mrour canada He was using a single wheel brake to assist in turning. They sometimes make noise as the brake is applied.

Which is best? One happy farmer or ten happy farmers? Is size really so important? If so why? OK there is a point at which farming is uneconomic but it sure isn't at 11,000 acres.

I know of a pretty KZbin lady who allegedly makes a living out of farming a tiny plot of land that she acquired quite recently. If anyone can figure out who she is, I would love them to inform of the name of her bank manager! My guess is that her real income is provided by KZbin as is the case with many a KZbin car channel. e.g. Hoovies garage How many of our favourite KZbin farmers could survive without their income from KZbin?

They were tough, and cheaper than a Deere. Even the last ones, they wasted a lot time. The cup holders were a joke . You could spend 30 minutes sometimes trying to get hydraulic lines in or out and yes we knew every trick to get the pressure off. They were terrible
