High speed disks take allot of power to move. They are very effective tillage tools eliminating the need for tandem disks and field cultivators.

When I first started watching this video I thought, that old beast wants more than that 5 shank ripper, and what a nice surprise in the middle of your video with it pulling a 31’ speed disk…that makes it work!

We stopped doing fall tillage years ago switched to Notill an some spring chisel plowing with a jd 4250 mfwd & jd chisel plow final tillage is a white disc an brillion roller

Fun fact. Despite being the most common and sometimes only transmission option on many red Steigers, 9390 powershifts are extremely rare. In my by no means expert but educated opinion, I’d wager that there’s under 100 out there.

9390s in general seem rare compared to the other 9300 series. Other than the 9310 which is super rare.

You could get a 9390 in decent shape for under 100k, I’d say even one in decent shape could be had around 70-80k. Neighbour bought a similar tractor to this (a 9330) in an auction for 55k last year, and it’s in mint condition.

Why the front disc gangs on the disk ripper not cutting into the soil ?? Why are they on the implement if not being used ??

Some guys choose to leave them up so it doesn’t pull as hard. In bean stubble I never put the front disks down but I do in corn. Just personal preference

It’s interesting how 4wds have grown. Now 420-440 hp is an entry level model and the big 600 hp models of today will be mid sized in about 3 years.

Engine efficiency increased by the late 90’s. They still had a good growl back then.

This farm has a 2wd 4640 and a FWA 4850. I’m sure if one of them could pull this Implement at 12 inches deep and at 6 mph. They would have them out there on tillage.
