Case 278: Alma Tirtschke
** Content Warning: Extreme sexual violence, captivity **
[Part 1 of 2]
When 12-year-old Alma Tirtschke failed to return home after running an errand for her family, they were immediately concerned. Alma was a dutiful child who did what she was told and respected her elders.
Alma’s final movements were retraced to an infamous saloon in the heart of Melbourne and its problematic owner, a man named Colin Ross.

It’s a classic debate. The police didn’t have equipment and they were short staffed. And you are right but the brightest work upstairs and do good work. Unless they’re corrupt

This is one of the consequences when you raise your child to have blind trust in adults. Sadly the child will allow the adults to do anything and everything to them. Because of blind trust the child believes they always know better. And sadly the child won’t even listen to their own feelings, when something is wrong. I know this for a fact, especially since I realized as an adult that I have autism as well. I could have been spared so much pain and abuse as a child and teenager, if only I was raised to speak up for my self. To be told as a child: your body only belongs to you. And you do have the right to say no, even towards adults.

Geez! This is what happens when 1/2 brained people watch a heinous crime against a child and proceed to blame the victim & her parents. It’s the monsters’ fault! And only their fault! A child should have the right to grow up and be protected from predators!

Wow. Alma was raised to be so quiet and reserved that when she was faced with a predator she didn't have any way to ask for help :( people need to teach kids to be adults, not how to be good kids. They need to know how to protect and stand up for themselves
@SassySlater
@SassySlater 5 ай бұрын
Doesn’t matter either way. It’s never on the child victim, it’s always the responsibility of the predator! Majority of the times someone is targeted there’s very little they can do, it’s very very rare people “save themselves” we all perpetually have a “someone will save me mentality” and that’s just due to being a group species and not lone survivors like Tigers etc

The fact that the criminal underworld stepped to help down this psycho reminds me what I was told in rehab by an ex-mob enforcer. "We did a lot of things we won't speak about, and more things we're not proud of, but we never went after kids. That's a line you don't cross, and those that do aren't criminals, they're monsters."

For some reason in this particular case I think the guy was set up and I think he was likely innocent...the witnesses all seemed too good to be true...I dont always have confidence the right people were convicted back in the old days..!🤨 1:05:59

Its infuriating that the city collectively reacted strongly to Almas murder but couldnt be fucked to look after her while she was still alive, wandering around a dangerous part of town alone and looking lost

@@MiMiiViVi I’ve been subbed to Casefile for years but none of my subscriptions were being shown on my Homepage D: it “broke” somehow, and was only showing me cat videos, prank videos, sports videos etc.. it looked like the default homepage if you’re not signed in!! So I spent all yesterday going through channels I’m subbed to, and clicking on videos scrolling through to the end liking and commenting hoping to “remind” the algorithm what I’m interested in. It’s bizarre because I watch KZbin every day (true crime, mysteries, history etc), and am subbed to hundreds of these sorts of channels… SO WHAT THE EFF HAPPENED TO MY HOMEPAGE? D: it was kind of creepy, especially as I’ve had this channel since like 2009 or something and my viewing tendencies have never changed!!

Wow, what a different time. Police Officers just randomly entering premises if lights were on & doors 'appeared unlocked', and sexworkers could have reliable reputations with authorities. Maybe those officers would have been more effective patrolling an area known for being a hotbed of wild antics & bad behavior.
@poiuy72997
@poiuy72997 6 ай бұрын
Its impressive, despite the era having even larger biases against sex workers and other people of "bad moral character" the police maintained good relations with them, which proved invaluable when a truly horrible crime happened. Often it seems police nowadays feel they can stomp out all crime if they crack down hard enough. In my opinion they should acknowledge there will always be sex work, drug use, sketchy bars, etc. and build relationships with everyone in the community. Most people, whether or not they're a sex worker, drug dealer, underage drinker etc. are not monsters and will help the police solve the murder of a young girl if they feel safe coming forward. Anyways off my soapbox.

I listened to Part 1 and 2 on Spotify. I came here to comment as I’ve no clue how to do it there. 🙄 This was an absolutely mind blowing saga, told brilliantly. My maternal grandparents were in their early 20s when this murder occurred. The case was somewhat familiar to me as my grandfather mentioned it when talking about the seedy side of Melbourne back in the bad old days. I now want to find as many photos as I can of that, now long gone, part of Melbourne. Thanks for your fabulous work everyone. ❤
