That was so smart, the order in which you pulled them out and your rigging to do it. All of them outweighed the jeep, on the frame and frozen in the ground but your jeep was able to do it because of your knowledge and quick thinking on where to start and how to rig up. Great video. Just more reason for me to believe that a 4X4 diesel is a waste of money for off-road use.

WHY I LOVE CASEY LADELLE’S CHANNEL: It doesn’t feel like a wacky TV show, there aren’t any (toy) helicopters, and Casey seems like a regular guy and not a gazillionaire (Dave). Also Casey has never click-baited me or (very obviously) set up an extraction (Matt). I also like that he doesn’t have a film crew or slick editing. I actually hope his channel never grows to that point. How many people truly understand the difficulty in filming such things? Unless you’ve done it you probably have no idea, but it adds two to three times as much time and effort to film something dynamic, if you do it right. It’s a TREMENDOUS amount of added work. Love him or hate him, you should respect Casey for what he’s doing here.

Nice recovery guys, that was a good one. It shows that a well thought out rigging plan and using stuck vehicles as a solid anchor point can really aid in recovery. It would have beat your lightweight Jeep to pieces trying to snatch those heavy diesel pickups out of that frozen mud, but with a compound block setup, it was really forgiving on the winch and the Jeep and you made it look easy.

The recovery we went on a couple weeks back, the pickup was repaired today, so we returned it to the customer. I have now had some real mud bogging experience, the other side of the hills from where this video was taken, Christmas Valley has now had a multi day melt going on, so some of the roads are now giant mud puddles, and what isn't a puddle is just slick mud. Not just any mud, red clay or grey clay mud.

Nice job! The most complicated rigging we have here in Minnenowhere are the ones that go through the ice on the lakes. People try to go through the channels where the water moves and creates thin ice. Lot's of snowmobiles go down. Those can usually be fished out from the bridges they are under. The cars and pickups the ice has to be cut and they are dragged to shore. Insurance doesn't work if you go through the ice, so these people are up the channel. ( creek)

11:34 Just think of it as “tension” in the winch line. The tension (minus pulley friction) is the same in the entire length of winch line. If the stuck vehicle takes 10,000 lbs of pull to get out, and you have 4 lengths of line coming off, each line will see 2500 lbs of tension Jeep 2500 lbs Dodge 5000 (two lines) Stump 2500 Stuck truck 10000

Go to your layout and imagine you cut across the middle cutting each cable. There is a tension of "T" throughout the system. So at the 15:00 point there would be 4 cables to cut, so you have a 4:1 mechanical advantage. If your winch pulled 500 lbs the stuck truck had a force of 2000 lbs on it. Intro to Statics 101. No charge, just like you. 👍
@garywoodard5759 Жыл бұрын
you must also account for angle! all parts of line in the system have equal tension, but when angled away from direction of movement of the load there will be reduction of force for that part of the line equal to tension times cosine of the angle between the part in question and the direction of movement. curiously enough the angle part will also have a lateral component of force and will affect the direction of travel, changing the angle.... Intro to Dynamics 201....🙃
@joehall6709 Жыл бұрын
I didn't want to get into the "x" and ""y" components of the resultant vector (the cable) or to address friction losses. The benefit of "cutting cables" in your head will confirm your rigging layout is creating the desired mechanical advantage.
@DB-yj3qc Жыл бұрын
Now the physics class frictional losses of each sheave and bend of lines with a loss of 10% per for planning purposes. But with testing the donut rings have been found to have more resistance than traditional snatch blocks but are lighter, easier to rig.

You are correct, but explained it in the most complicated way. The line tension is the same throughout. Every snatchblock has two lines in and one out so it has two times the tension. So in the setup on the white truck you had 48k lbs maximum pulling on the truck with a 12k lb winch.

Stock 4x4 pickups with street tires fully aired up, and no lockers are pretty worthless off road.... no matter the brand. But diesels make it worse because of the extra weight.
