For the large drawings, get a few strips of the big cardboard and cut them into strips, 3, so you can overlap them, you glue/tape those to the edges of the papers in 3 layers so you form a rigid edge with the paper sandwiched between on of the layers. You can even staple it if you have one of those staple g*ns. When we did design in school, this was the go-to method. Great progress on the car, o'll chap. She looking mighty spiffy.

I've been building model kits since I was a six year old and I really enjoy it. Now as an adult I usually add scratch built details to what I'm building. In a sense, you're scratch building a model from photos & drawings and it doesn't have to be perfect. Anyone who sees this car who knew about the concert car will know exactly what it is even if you make necessary changes to make it better. Keep going, it's coming to life, and it looks amazing.

In the unfortunate event of the car crashing (knock on wood) there should be a structural element that goes down the middle of the car which serves one major purpose. IE, to push the engine under you by picking up the force of the crash at the front, and directing it all into a deflector at the back, which is also the radiator/seat back plane. In short, along the existing structure that goes down the center of the car, a custom piece of bent tubing, of the highest grade you can get, that's a continuous member from the front of the car (where it meets with the foremost element, and continues all the way back to the top of the backseat. It should be floating at the front, so it only acts in the case of a major crash, and probably spaced, or telescoped into the front crash bar (that way, if a crash happens, but it's a light crash, it won't bone the whole car). Also, i'd go to project Binky, see how they did their own crash bar supports/frame and copy that design, with the preformed crumpling notches. TLDR, there should be something that allows the engine mass to go under the cockpit in the event of a frontal crash. It's standard practice for all modern cars, and something that saves a lot of lives (rich, dumb lives, because that's the most common place to find rear mounted engines). A little bit of back info on this. In a normal car, front engine, the whole structure we see in the car's tunnel, or firebreak, we see that there to push the engine under the passenger area in the event of a crash. This design philosophy is behind every element in the engine bay, from the engine mounts giving way in a certain manner, to the structure of the engine itself, the firebreak having reinforcements in certain areas and other minor details that usually escape the eye (it's all computerized CAD speak). In rear mounted cars, the design is completely different, and Cerberused, if you will. Because the engine is behind the passengers, it essentially becomes an anvil death. Like with that old VW crash test of the truck variant of the minibus, where they loaded the car with concrete and did exaggerated crash tests, and the whole car basically eats the cockpit area (every idiot online shares that video thinking that it's a normal v-bus, but whatever). The design idea then, is changed, so whilst in the event of a crash, the engine is still designed to slide under (go to Tavarish's channel, and look at the McLaren cockpit, and you'll see all the little engine mounts and components practically orient the engine to do this), it's also designed to shear off completely. Which, is why you see a lot of supercars halved in crashes. It's not, the speed that did it (i mean, it is, but you get the idea) it's the design of the crash protection that cut it in half. This is impossible for this car, you'd have to change entirely too much. However, you can at least implement the slide under. Thus, the impact deflector. Just my 2 cents.

Gerry Coker had similar issues with the swage line continuing at the rear wheel in the Austin-Healey 100-6 and 3000. I don’t think the line actually continued through the rear wheel. It was raised a little behind the rear wheel to make it look aesthetically pleasing.

If you do another wire car, you should make a second finger stand, but in the second stand give it a grabber (like in chemistry class, the one that holds test tubes) that you can rotate and adjust to some extent, so it holds, rigidly (so probably some weights on the base) wires and items. It can also be used as a pusher, for when you start doing big panels and such.

@@jakevote8978 I would, if you haven't already, check out gravity sketch in vr. It is definitely a much more tangible approach than any other CAD before consumer VR. Within an afternoon he can probably knock out 2-3 different concepts of how he wants to combine the different design elements and walk around. Maybe squat down and take a look specifically how panels bend or connect to each other. By no means am I suggesting to use vr for precision modeling but for rapid prototyping concepts and ideas. Imagine reaching out with your hands to a point in space and dragging it to another point in space to create a wire. Then with both hands, drag a full panel with curvature if wanted from that line. There is mouse, you're not constantly rotation the model but you would be walking around the object itself instead.

I worked on a kit car once that had almost a full rear wheel skirt. To change the tire, you had to disconnect the upper shock (from inside the car), then drop the wheel down. Once the wheel fell down far enough, the shorter upper arm caused exaggerated camber, tipping the top of the wheel inwards. That, along with the extreme drop, gave you just barely enough clearance to get the wheel off the lugs and out of the car. Fancy design over function.

Would be neat to see you add a more modern wheel/tire set up. Possibly 19" front, 20" rear like a GT3. I think it will be subtle yet bring the look up to a more up to date rendition. Just a thought. Also, that wing idea will look really great!

From the blue and red drawing, I'm hoping a diffuser and skirts are also going to be part of the aero package; just from that doodle, an aero package on this would look _really_ good. I also think this would look better in a brushed metal look, rather than a paint job; it's just something about brushed metal on vehicles that follow the simplistic style, look at the Delorean, look at the Cyber Truck, it'd be a good look on a car like this.

what if on the splitter you have 2 split rectangular vents with outer 2 acting as brake ducting and the inner 2 blowing air through 2 pipes straight to the radiator if you can tuck them up under the car or can live with jacking the car up and removing them when you take off the track package? also what if you had a split diffuser (purely to show off the transaxle) that both mount with 2 bolts toward the rear corners of the body, and also where the spoiler is mounted with the threaded tube and a nut and bolt so that you can kill 2 birds with one stone?

I would lave this track pack idea on the front to be permanent.Since the bodywork goes inward after front tyre, you'll have easy plase to dump as much higher pressure air as you want.

So, I've always been very curious about car aerodynamics... On one hand I've seen cars designed (as you're doing) with an air dam to prevent air from getting under the car, preventing turbulence and providing down force, by (maybe?) directing more air over the body...? On the other hand, I've seen cars designed to speed up the air under the car, to help decrease pressure at high speeds, increasing the pressure *over* the car, creating down force. So, my question... which design is better, or is either design actually "better"? They both seem to have their benefits and downfalls.

I believe that both methods have the same effect. With the angled front end of the zero, the splitter and air dam will force air over the car, allowing the air going under the car to have lower pressure. If the nose was forcing air under the car due to the angled nature, the pressure under the car would increase, as the volume for the same number of particles of air would decrease. The idea for increasing downforce is to reduce pressure and turbulence under the car by way of splitters, air dams, and flat under-trays.
