You guys are looking at the scenes already having seen the movie though. Which gives you context as to what's going on. When I first watched this trailer I had very little clue the way it was going to play out. The only thing it really gives away is that he flips the car swerving to avoid Vesper. But even that... you don't know the context of that scene until having seen the movie

In my opinion an insanely good movie on it's own, but not really a Bond movie. For me Skyfall is better, because it combines the serious tone of Casino Royale, and the fun and humor of the older Bond movies.

I don't agree that this isn't a Bond film. Almost everything that makes a Bond film a Bond film is here, even if some things are missing or are cleverly subverted. Also keep in mind that the book this movie is based on is it self, not like most other Bond stories, even the ones grittier than the films that followed it in the later novels.

I agree that Skyfall was better (way better in fact), but I think that it was Skyfall, which went beyond the limits of a Bond film. It tackled the question of Bond getting older and also brought up the question of UK's place in the modern world (M's Tennyson poem scene was so powerful and artistic with historical meaning, something other Bond films, like Royale, can only dream about). Then there were all the references which u could pick up if u knew where to look. Some say, and I agree, that Skyfall was in a way "art"-Bond film and for me it is the best of all, followed closely by From Russia with Love.

I think Casino Royale went beyond a Bond film because the plot was so organic and humanizing. It's funny how it kind of bookends Skyfall with him being "younger" (he was in amazing shape for 38 years old), and shows him naive, learning, and somewhat jaded but with enough "innocence" that he does want to quit the business. The relationship with Vesper was built up so amazingly and they played off eachother so well, it rivaled Han and Leia in the Star Wars films with the bantering. The main villain dying at the end of the second act was awesome and having the third act being about the characters just made it all the more better. No gadgets, no specific islands or lairs. Just a man down on his luck trying to get his life back, with Bond seemingly trying to sort of his life/ get his back and/ or make it his own. I LOVED how consistently serious this film was, and it never killed the scenes or the pacing. The movie didn't rely on Bond stopping to adjust his cuff links or deliver a one in an unrealistic way; That Last Hand, Nearly Killed Me was delivered so well and basically put some fear/ kept Le Chiffre in check and didn't ruin some big action scene by him pausing to say it. I loved how serious this film could be, rather than relying on comedy like the other films do. It was amazingly realistic for the most part and went beyond a Bond movie over Skyfall imo.
