I personally recommend AA meetings. It’s not a perfect system, but the supportive local community I found got me sober, and the steps keep me sober and genuinely happy. And there’s a surprising number of supportive queer people in my small southern community. My identity as a queer person became much more clear once I got sober and wasn’t high and/or having an existential crisis all the time. The meetings are free and everywhere. I’m 10 months sober now and without that community I absolutely would not have made it. The beginning is very tough, but it gets easier if you have a program to work. But ofc do what works for you! I’m rooting for you. 💕

As awful as it sounds, I don’t think Rupaul would really care about someone in recovery on her show, unless it was Ru herself…And yes Katya didn’t need to go on the show, but she should still have the support system just in case, especially since Ru talks about how important that was for her as well in her own experience

I don't know what the situation was in the US, but as far as I know it wasn't really a thing in my country. @NukkuiskoHyvinVaiPois I'm in opiate recovery, and we only got phone groups when the pandemic became so bad they were forced to. I highly, HIGHLY doubt that at the time of season 7, there was an option to do AA via the phone. It's a confidentiality nightmare.
@ConstantChaos1
@ConstantChaos1 7 ай бұрын
@writheagainsoon it's not a confidentiality nightmare and teletherapy in the U.S. for substance abuse disorders isn't as new as you seem to think, I literally was already in teletherapy when season 7 was filmed. Maybe the coasts didn't have it yet but out in middle America telehealth has been a thing for ages. I'm also unsure where you got it being a confidentiality nightmare, if it's an actual program then that's actually a more legally confidential situation than the filming lol. Also since esp on the coast they are super strict about sharing personal info in AA I don't think this would have posed any risk, remember the queens go home when they are eliminated, so they are a MUCH larger confidentiality risk than someone who's calling in to a legally confidential space lol

My bf of 2.5yrs took off on me to make the decisions on my own (the baby was his!!) I was so scared. I grew up w/an addict & alcoholic father, and that is no place for a child to thrive!!! I didnt want to take the chance of my child walking into a room and find m me OD, uk? I made the conscious decision to call an adoption adviser who helped me every step of the way to find the right parents & make sure i wasnt alone. I love Katya, don’t get me wrong. One of my favorite drag queens but this statement got me soooo confused. Why did she audition then? Also, she read the contract, why did she decide to push through when she is fully aware of the toll it would take on her? Isn’t it unkind to production and the show as well? To hint “release me or there will be trouble”… I’m just very confused. It’s not like she was coerced to join.

That is exactly how I felt a few years ago trying to go back to work as a doc after having been assaulted in my home. I pretended everything was fine. Kept going to work and kept on going. Until I hit a breaking point. I had to face it and I couldn’t go on anymore. There was nothing I could do about it. All good now though! 👍🏻 therapy ya’ll!

Addiction is so hard. I thought I was fine and started drinking again because I had things under control. I had left my home state, all my enablers and everything. But I started going back to old ways. Turns out old habits die hard. Quit absolutely good this time. Finally 4 years sober.

I haven’t been to a meeting yet, but luckily I have a support system that I’ve been able to trust for 3 months. Life is so triggering at times, especially when you don’t think anyone *gets* it. This short was random for me, but I did need to see it, as well as read the other comments. I’m trying, y’all.

To think that you say you shouldn’t have said that, is crazy. We need to learn to help people succeed with addictions.

One of their sponsors is a vodka brand. Think less class and more 'don't show the effects of the people paying us'
