Casström Lars fält vs Mora Lok

I will test the Lars Fält and the Mora Lok side by side. The video has a short overview, testing of the 90° spine, batoning, feather sticks, tip strength and some cutting. I hope it will help you decide if you like the knife enough to buy it. Both are great bushcraft knives but they each have their own characteristics.

It took me a while to get beautiful feathersticks..hope I don’t step on toes here..started aiming the blade towards the first knuckle on the finger..then grab the knife with only index and thumb..then middle..ring and pinky..grip tight..then relax the hand quite a lot..to where you can almost pull it out of the hand..then you will notice that by tightening the grip..it will ever so slightly change the angle of the blade on the wood..remember to keep your hand relaxed..it makes very thin..higher surface area for ignition..hope I’m not offending..just wanna pass on a little stuff I learned from multiple people..put your own little twist on it..

Very cool, Wim, thanks for sharing. I bought a Joker Bushlord, with Walnut handles, in Sleipner steel, for 100€. I heard about, that Casström let produce their knives in Spain. The Joker Bushlord (Walnut scales) and the Joker Bushlore (curly birch scales) are absolute identical to the Casström Bushlore. Best wishes from Germany.

It's a great design, for 100 euro in sleepier you got a great knife. I have a joker bushlore aswel. I Will test it soon with the ember. Results are somewhat predictable. Great steel, good handle, great sheets. Greetings Wim

They do not produce in Spain. But they stamp the steel in Poland I think, some eastern country and it's put together and designed in Sweden. Sleipner is also a Swedish steel, like Sandvik and Elmax. Mora is all made in Sweden. I don't like Joker, just the name turns me off and the fact that it seems like a knock-off brand who just takes designs of other companies and makes them cheaply in spain. But im sure their knives look good all though.

Sleipner has nothing to do with Elmax or even Sandvick, it's a very brittle way less tough tool steel, not a tough stainless. None of these is ideal for a scandi grind bushcraft knife ,but that's another story. Also Lars Falt, as the guy said, are indeed mde in Spain, probably Joker makes them, because they are 100% identical. A Morakniv Robust, or a Bushcraft Black.are way better than any of them. because at 4mm Scandi grinds Suck, no matter what edge angle you put on it, it will still suck. That's why Mora, and all other serious makers,.don't make them thicker than 3mm blade stock. Also Sleipner, being identical to D2, is the last steel, that you want in a scandi, that is also going to cut wood, because it has the least edge stavility and Scandi needs a tough steel to work without getting damage (chips on the edge). A Field knife should also be easily sharpened or restored if damaged, , where Mora wins again! Marketing is one thing broither, a good knife, is another, they don't mix together!! @@LordOfSweden

@@traveler5898 my favorite Joker is the Campero, centuries old spanish design, serving uncounted generations ... half of my family is from down there :) I was wondering why you prefer the Bushlore over the Ember (assuming they have same steel ... )? just curious :) cheers from Germany

Hi, the camper looks like a great knife. I do prefer the bushlore over the ember. The ember has the 14C28N steel (nice) and with fire steel. It also has a part of the tang sticking out for hammering. For bushcraft tasks I prefer a smooth handle. And the bushlore has a tump rest at the base of the handle. The Bushlore is in Sleipner (also nice) Both handles are very similar in design. The Ember also has a pointy recasso where the Bushlore has almost none. So fore me the Bushlore is more suited for the tasks I do. Both cut like crazy and the handles are great. The blade of the Bushlore is a little longer aswel. Greetings Wim

Nice review. I have the Lars Felt and like it a lot. The Lok’s place could easily be taken by a Finnish Puuko in my opinion, even with the typical stick tang.

The great differences are the handle and the steel, if mora uses it's 12c27n (like my companion), then the casström (I own the Lars Fält in Sleipner) has an edge that lasts twice or more longer

I got know the Joker Bushlord (or Bushlore depending on region) and I am 100% convinced this is the Casström 10, but at half the price . I am sure now that Casström knives are produced by Joker actually. Considering the huge price difference I see no reason to get a Casström really but recommend the fantastic Joker Bushlord 😊

I think they overpriced this one and I don't know why. Had it been 150 Euros it would have been great. Not a good thing to do for their brand and I love Moras and im Swedish. However, I think it's worth supporting local Swedish companies with such a long knife tradition that is entirely made here, not in Asia or a cheaper European country.. so.. if you like Mora and knives I still think it's worth buying

I checked and off today I can get the LOK from 165-200 euro. So I think the prise wil come down somewhat. Hopefully it wil get to around 150. Personally I do like the knife and design. Reminds me of the Mora 1 special edition they did in 14c28n with same grind (false edge on top). Always wanted a bigger version of that knife full tang. Greetings Wim

@@traveler5898 Yeah I actually asked Moras product specialist for this very type of knife, about 5 months before this knife was announced. I asked for a fulltang knife, like Garberg, but with wooden handle and a bit of a finger guard. And the guy said "That's a good idea, sure we will see what we can do." and then this came out haha. too bad they priced it too high I really wanted it to succeed.

But your money not mine...

BPS is a pretty good knife, plus the price is good... it's my to go knife when out morel hunting, and as I leave the woods, I carve small mushrooms and leave them along the trails .
