Watching Cast Away I thought "Why do we care about a volleyball?" so that is the question I wanted to answer with this video essay.
Cast Away was directed by Robert Zemeckis and starred Tom Hanks and Wilson...the volleyball.

It effects everyone differently. I thought the volleyball storyline was kind of funny too, until I thought he might let that rope go. I ran a bit of anxiety when he was swimming towards it, and relief when he chose to stay on the raft instead. I can't help but chuckle as I remember freinds yelling "Wilson!!!" When they dropped that same volleyball during a game.

I'll bet Chuck talked with Wilson in his sleep for years after his rescue. His next wife would eventually have to ask him, " Who is this 'Wilson' you speak to in the middle of the night? You notice when he's driving to deliver the unopened package to the redhead in Texas, that he has another volleyball beside him in the passenger seat...

This is a beautiful video. I agree with everything you said! Wilson is a part of him, and mentally stabilizes him during his time on the island. I personally connect to chuck sometimes. When I was an adolescent, dealing with physical and mental changes in my life (moving schools, having no friends, being diagnosed with two learning disorders), I looked in the mirror and started creating characters, based off myself, and based off the movies, videogames and films I saw and loved. I drew the characters to give them a visual look, and I figured out their separate personalities by "talking" to them in the mirror, and thinking of them through music. It ended up working, and I ended up with hand-typed books on these characters. Now, I'm in my mid to late teens. I have best friends, I've discovered my sexuality, I'm used to the usual stress of high school and I'm getting a lot better, mentally. I look back on those characters in my notebook now, and I realized how lonely I was back then. Not being able to connect to the people around me, not being able to understand real love and commitment, led me down a lane of imagination. These characters helped me become who I am now, and I will forever thank them for that.

@PeakedInterest
@PeakedInterest 4 жыл бұрын
You're correct. The fact he was a Wilson ball was just because Wilson was the name of the volleyball prop and wasn't originally written that way. Originally chuck would would speak with himself more directly as two separate persona but this was changed by zemeckis who felt it worked better to have an external representation of chuck

We are born social creatures keeping us apart from each other via plexiglass gloves squares to stand in wearing stupid masks its a form of torture The social distancing is a war on humanity The 1% need to go to Greenland and stay in their bunkers and don’t come out again They the cancer on the face of the earth Destroying everything
