This video is about Caste System in UK, This discussion with Eugen shows how some anti Hindus try to show Hinduism in poor light. Jay Lakhani sir has spoken against caste system many times, Please note Caste system is a social evil, it is not Hinduism, it is atrocity committed in the name of social system, it is not sanctioned by any Hindu scripture of Authority, Manu smriti is not scripture of authority, its content are outdated and no longer applicable, therefore Hindus are doing whatever job they are interested in doing. It is on the way out and will slowly die out as economic and social changes happen. See video in link below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2ixhniEjb5qisU ▼

In Hinduism, birth based caste is a superstitious system, however Varna was the original system, in Varna there was no upper or lower, people chose the work of which they are qualified for and according to Bhagavad Gita, anyone can be a Brahmin (Teacher, Scholar profession), Shatriya (Warrior, Army profession), Vaishya (Trader, Business profession), Shudra (Other social workers) based on as per their skills, knowledge, and capabilities: 🔹In Bhagavad Gita 4:13, Krishna says that he created different Varnas (Profession) on the basis of one's Karma (Activity) and Guna (Quality). 🔹Bhagavad Gita 5:18 "The truly learned, with the eyes of divine knowledge, see with equal vision a Brahmin, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and a dog-eater" 🔹Bhagavad Gita 9:29 "I am equally disposed to all living entities: there is neither friend nor foe to Me: but those who with living sentiments render divotional service unto Me, such persons are in Me and I am in them." 🔹Bhagavad Gita 18:41 "The duties of the Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras are distributed in accordance with their guṇas (quality) and not by birth. Caste is a Spanish and Portuguese word 'casta' which stands for 'Breed' or 'lineage'. During earlier times Caste use to be Varna (Profession) and based on merit and not merely by birth, I can give instances from the ancient times, where a so-called modern day "lower caste" moved to "upper caste", e.g. Guru Valmiki, Kabir Das was from a shudra family but became a brahmin based on merit, etc and btw Ravana, his younger brother Kumbhakarna all were Brahmins knowledgeable person from Northern India but because of their notorious activities all were punished by Rama (believed to be an OBC if we abide by today's caste categorization). Lastly, you have to understand the British motive behind imposing caste: The Caucasians (Europeans) created Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda, Africa, to divide and control the native population, and for this reason, the Rwanda Genocide occurred. The same attempts and inequalities Europeans also tried to create amongst Indians by separating Northern India and Southern India into "Aryans" VS "Dravidians" and further dividing Hinduism into 3,000 castes and 25,000 sub-castes. And also read about Herbert Hope Risley who created casteism, racism in Indian society by one's facial features and skin color, and Bishop Robert Caldwell who propagated the "Aryan Invasion" in Southern India to convert "Dravidians" into Christianity. Read the book 'Castes of Mind' by Nicholas Dirks

Caste system has no support in Vedas, Upanishads or Gita. Manusmriti is just a work that describes ways to ideally run a society. It is not considered a work of Hindu scripture. The fact is that there was class system all around world until concepts of egalitarianism became strong in Europe during period of Enlightenment. There were still classes of patrician & plebian during time of French Revolution in a strictly Christian society, not to mention practice of slavery in North America. I am given to understand that there are still White supremacists in America & Europe. Those ideas are still to percolate fully among the masses in India. It will take time. But to blame that strictly on tenets of Hinduism has no basis, as there is no support from Hindu scriptures for this practice.

@@Omegacrafton what do you even know? Caste system was a portuguese-spanish concept. What did exist in India and in the vedas is the varna system which determines the social classes in society not based on birth but on the work you do. The scholars, teachers, poets and authors were called brahmans, the warriors or soldiers were called kshatriyas, the traders, merchants and businessman were called vaishyas and finally the common man who worked as a farmer, carpenter, blacksmith, a dancer or anything else was called a shudra. Matter of fact the king who defeated Alexander the great in the north-east of India was born to shudra parents but when he became a warrior and a king he was in the class of kshatriya . The manusmriti that was portrayed to the outer world was just a piece of paper that nobody cared about and it was fabricated during translations by william jones. The manusmrithi is not even considered a part of sanathan dharma but the british made it seem so to push out a false narrative to the outside world. This is what the first governor general said about it. "The Brits were bewildered by the variety and diversity of India’s customs across the breadth of the country and looked for a neat and simple 'lawbook' to govern all Hindus. Manusmriti provided just that. Thus they have unwittingly played an important role in the enduring significance of Manusmriti". Warren Hastings (1772). Like you claimed in your comment that the varna system is mentioned in a different way than I mentioned in the mahabharat and the vedas, show me those verses and lines and I will acknowledge you to be an intellect. You Muslims are hate mongering radicals who are finding one way or the other to undermine another culture. If you're not a radical missionary, show me where caste system is mentioned in the vedas or the mahabharata.

I'm 37 and Rajput but I use Kumar as my surname, people dont discriminate on bases of caste now in schools or colleges in India and make friends regardless of caste and eat and drink and worship Gods without discrimation but... they do ask you about your caste, because I use Kumar so no one could determine my caste by my name and so they had to ask, I did schooling in Delhi and students in higher classes 9th onwards did discuss about each others caste because of curiosity I guess, but when I went to a college in Alwar city and lived in hostel there were people from all over the northern states(small cities and towns) in the college hostel and the first question fellow students would ask was which caste are you from, not to make friends or enemies but they did ask. All higher castes people do have a sense of pride in them that they are higher caste and all lower caste people live in misery why they have lower caste and not higher castes and so they want reservation not because of discrimination but because of they can have because of vote banks political system in India. Today it has nothing to do with social discrimination but it has become a status quo like money. HIgher caste + Rich = Happiest man/women in India, This superiority/inferiority complex will never go away. Its the same a being born as African american and White american in the US, there is always a form of superiority or inferiority complex in the minds weather you like it or not. Thats just human nature. I have seen students discrimate on the basis of area too like Harayana guy not liking a Bihari. One of my friends like all Bihars just because he was a Bihari.

The point is not to say that there's no discrimination at all. The point is that the discrimination that exists is nothing to do with Hinduism, and people should be educated about it and the fact that it has no religious ground. Instead of doubling down and saying fk brahmins or wtv. This would stop the discrimination for good ( people would just regard one another as Hindus ) . Many people don't know that it has no religious basis and they do so on said assumption that it's there. With education, even the most hardcore dude would have no religious basis and hence no ground to demean others. That's the point

According to the Wikipedia article called "Caste System in India," the caste system started between the 18th and 19th centuries (see entry "Post-Mughal period (1700 to 1850 CE)) while Hinduism began at least 3450 years earlier, around 1750 BCE.

Yes. However what is not discussed, that under 200 years of British colonialism, Brits strengthened the caste system, because it was an very easy way to divide and control Indians. Sashi Tharoor gave a very excellent presentation, in which he illustrated that before the Brits, caste mobility was normal. The Brits were the ones that imposed a rigid and immobile caste system because it served their interests.

India has officially recognized castes and they've categorized it into 4 or more community. Castes have transformed themselves into Community, Each community has different beliefs, different culture. India had diversity of faith, belief, food, culture, regional administration, and community diversity isn't new. A white man won't give you his daughter just to prove he ain't racist, ofc Whites have different culture too. Caste politicians/activists like this guy are the reason Hinduism would succumb to church/izlamists lobby. A poor brahman won't get anything extra, but a rich dalit would get everything.

Dear Lakhani Sir, Its my immense pleasure to write to you and submit my feedback. I keep watching your video and Mr Rajiv Malhotra's, too. (i) One thing I have noticed, when media, journos and others ask about "Caste System/Varna System", I found you both are got in their trap and becomes speechless and reason-less. Sir, Varna system appeared once and first time in Purush Sukta in Rig Veda. According to various scholars, like John Muir and others have come to a conclusion that "Purush Sukta" was added later in Rig Veda to justify "Varna System" which was absent in Original Rig Veda. It is clear that Purush Sukta was added with some ill motives by Brahmin and other dominant varnas. Hence, why don't you and other hindu scholars simply reject "varna system" or so called "caste system" that it was not present in original Rig Veda and it was added with ill motives of Brahmin and other dominant varnas. But what I see you all start justifying it by giving so much logical examples and rationalize it. (ii) Even In Bhagwat Gita, Sri Krishna, Himself has justified Varna System which is also purposeful misdeeds of Brahmin and other upper varna. Simple, Sri Krishna, We Call Him God, Can not tell like such disgusting thing i.e. Varna System. If He, Sri Krishna, has told like this, He does not qualify to be God, God Must see all and does not put choices like Brahmin and so forth. Hence, why don't you and other hindu scholars simply reject "varna system" or so called "caste system" present in Bhagwat Gita and it was added with ill motives of Brahmin and other dominant varnas. But what I see you all start justifying it by giving so much logical examples and rationalize it. (iii) It is better to reject and nullify rather than justifying it that bla bla. (iv) Many Hindu like Me who practice Hinduism besides being born in Dalit Caste feel "bad" and "like leaving Hinduism" because You all start justifying that it was based on this, that bla bla. (v) All Religions and Societies have some Merits and Demerits. Instead of justifying "demerits" better to Accept it as Demerits, that "It is horrible and it was incorporated with illwill and greeds of "Brahmin and others" This is right Choice to exercise to "accept demerits and move on" rather than "justifying it" Thanks and Regards Proud, Practicing Hindu, Born as Dalit in India

Caste discrimination is banned legally in India since 1950. But it is still practiced as an age old habit in many Indian villages. There is a lot being done by Indian Government by giving high reservation quotas in higher education and Jobs, to these 'depressed classes', but it is also a reality that once they become educated and wealthy, they forget their own people and make no effort for their upliftment. This caste barrier is hard to break really, because the privileged class will never give up their privileges. We must increase the prestige of lower classes, rather than bringing the privileged classes down or punishing them. It is found that the educated people from the lower classes harbour hatred and ill will against the upper classes for the wrongs done to their ancestors, which is understandable, but it is not the way forward...Let bygones be bygones and any person who is educated, whether lower or upper class must consider their duty to educate and take responsibility for their fellow Indians, who still suffer because of ignorance! Also class system is not uniquely a Hindu thing. All cultures and civilisations have some sort of class structure in place, and many so called advanced countries were built on cheap and forced labour of slaves, who were heavily discriminated against. In India, instead of blaming everything on Hindus, it would be wise to gently but with firm resolve end this bad practice, and every Indian must participate in its demise, and not politicise it. having said that I also believe Hinduism must be defended, because it is still one of the oldest and the wisest traditions alive....Abrahamic faiths are no match for it and this is the truth! Just because of some perversion that has creeped in Hinduism because of its antiquity, does not mean Hinduism is evil? So love Hinduism, and try to eradicate the bad practices in it.

The idea that in one generation you can undo hundreds of generations worth of systemic oppression is something you'd really only argue if you somehow benefit from arguing it, because it's just clearly not true. Apparently it's very visible in Silicon Valley because of how many first generation Indian immigrants work there (there's a bunch of articles on it), which is to say even amongst an educated and moneyed class in another country the caste system is still present.

Very interesting. Also I think some people in the comments are being a little unnecessarily hostile... So Mr. Culas (they misspelled his last name in the video btw) has been campaigning to end caste discrimination for a lot of his life it seems, which is a very noble thing to take up. However, predictably, this has also given him a very biased view on Hinduism, which is sad. It is sad, because Mr. Lakhani is actually saying the same thing- if only he would have engaged in more of a conversation and listened with an open mind. Mr. Lakhani is not saying that the caste system never existed or that it wasn't/isn't harmful. Also, this discussion is about how this affects Hindus in the U.K. When I first heard about this legislature, my mind first went to: That sounds great, ending discrimination against the Dalits sounds great, who wouldn't want this? But turns out, the legislature would require Hindus to state their caste, which would just promote more caste-based discrimination- in short, it is misleading. If Mr. Culas would recognize this, I think he would realize that Mr. Lakhani and he were speaking the same language. Such a shame because it seems like his (Mr. Culas) heart is in the right place.

See video in link below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2ixhniEjb5qisU

For caste discrimination to go away, ask the govt to abolish reservations in education and jobs. Then advocate for equality.

or those who want reservations change their surname to a lower caste surname and be eligible for reservations, no one can stop you changing your surname, caste was based on work people did, no one is doing their ancestor's profession now, so caste is dead, and anyone troubled by it choose a lower caste surname
Why was India conquered so easily ?
