As a person who is just starting out, coming from a traditional business career, my mindset is already geared toward researching my customer's desires and needs. I truly appreciate all of your videos, but this one really got my attention because of the practical insights and advice from a "customer". This was super helpful, and I am so thankful for the video! I think the advice that helped me the most was related to auditioning for 5 lines or less characters. I think most actors have to play these roles to get experience before they get even bigger roles. Lead roles are really about showcasing your personality, but 5 lines or less roles usually have a purpose in continuing the story. Thank you for bringing that up!

Yes!! And is so much fun to audition for a one liner, you are actually part of the story and serve the scene. You are no longer on the back ( background) but have the chance to show your skills and do something new. From there when you are ready you can to to book leads! Also having a good mentor / acting coach full of programs like " audition class" they teach you how to audition or also the option of rehearsing with someone your audition before the audition day. Also worshops where you can connect with casting directors etc. It is so so so much better creating your own team! And been intentional in every move you make. 💖🙋‍♀️

I think the most “hit home” thing that you said was about being kind to yourself. Something to the effect of “that it’s nice to get that first job to validate your idea that you are/can be/should be an actor, and that sometimes that can ease the tension you put on yourself. And maybe it’s not until then that you start talking to yourself more appropriately.” I feel like that’s a great place to start and get reps in... Learning to motivate and talk to yourself like you would talk to or motivate the person you love the most in life. Be in your own corner no matter what. Believe in you no matter what. Be kind to you no matter what. Great Video! Thanks for sharing these. 👊🏼

Networking is so critical. Make friends. Volunteer to help. Be nice. Don't be a jerk. A no show means I will not hire you ever. I've had actors commit then not show up ON SET. 'I was tired and I didn't think I'd do a good job.' 'I was hung over and over slept'. Hey, guess what? Hope you like your day job!

You can record the slate as a separate video and then edit them together afterwards. That's how I do it

Hi Kurt, what is your best advice for me who had training in one zoom workshop and a online acting course and has done band and chorus in 4th and 5th grade who is wanting to audition for Disney channel and an agent, can as long as I have this training and good people skills get me one?

Maybe. Maybe not. There's no way for me to tell you for sure. Some people learn acting very quickly and are ready to audition after just a few classes. Other people take longer and are not ready for a while.

I know it happens but it's hard to believe that people will actually pull a no show. I have a question. Why does an actors profile need to look perfect to be considered by most casting directors? Like what if actors only have headshots and resume but no reel because they can't get the footage? Or why are actors automatically passed over for Named Actors? What if actors are on Actors Access but at the time can't pay for reels and slate shots for all 8+ headshots.. will they be less considered? I'm asking because these things are what I hear gets actors less chances from what other actors tell me.

If you don't have professional footage you can just record yourself performing a scene with your phone. The goal is to see your acting ability. Actors are passed over for name actors because this is a business and producers care about making a return on investment. Name actors assure a box office draw that unknown actors cannot guarantee. The vast majority of actors have a second or even third job to help finance the costs of this career. It is very common within the industry.

You should so everything you can in your current country (training, work on local productions, etc.) and then eventually move to the country where you want to pursue your career.

I started in Ohio, right next to Michigan. It's true there are not as many options as LA but there are definitely classes, and agents, and audition opportunities. I was a working actor for 8 years in Ohio before moving to Atlanta. Start with acting classes. Do a google search for classes in your city or your closest big city.

Probably the wedding DJ in Holidate. Also, I played a police officer on Mr. Mercedes. That in itself isn't particularly strange, but the character's name was Officer Schmidt.
