I love Castle Douglas. Me and my late wife used to holiday at a cottage near Dalry. We always enjoyed shopping at Castle Douglas. The shops are so good. Most high streets are closing down. Castle Douglas was thriving. Great butchers and cake shop. The kitchen shop is an Aladdin's cave. It's a great place.

I want to give you a big thank you. My son was having a very bad panic attack last night. He tried breathing exercises given for a previous attack but they didn't work. By 6am I was running out of things to talk about to try to get his mind on something else. He then decided to watch some of your videos. He found you so calming that his heart rate started to get back to normal. Eventually he went to bed about 8.15, still listening to you. THANK YOU 😘

i actually live in this town and it was nice to see that you came to CD. bit of a fun fact, the reason why CD has one huge main street - King Street - with Queen Street and Cotton Street off to either side is because old blueprints for the town showed a grid-like structure of buildings

Oor Willie is another Scottish legend, great books we used to read them when I was young. My mother in law still gets either Oor Willie or the Broons at Christmas for my 31 year old son, you never tire of reading them, I’m from Newcastle and we’ve heard of them. Great video btw 😊👍

Hi, as the artist that painted them, I can confirm it was Audrey Hepburn and lemmy from motorhead, and I'm my profile pic, that's David bowie. Thanks for showing our old shop that's not there anymore unfortunately, covid killed the town, that's why everywhere closed at 3pm

What an interesting video. I know Castle Douglas well. I used to have family in the area. I’ve walked these very streets many a time. There is a Cooperative and a Wilkins store down one of the side streets, plus a Tesco at the top end of the town. You were on King Street where most of the shops are. The Broons and Oor Wullie are well known Scottish cartoon characters The jerky bag is a type of strainer used for jam and jelly . My Mum had one. I’ve not bee m back to Castle Douglas since before the Covid pandemic started. It’s a nice town.

The Broons book used to come out just before Christmas every 2nd year. One year it’d be the Broons and the following year it was Oor Wullie. I used to get them for my Christmas growing up, but harder to get now I live in England but I do still get them from time to time.

Dan and Mazzy. Great video of the town. I think you was right to walk away from the first takeaway, as the pictures are probably the best they can make and what you actually get, will be a lot worse……. In the bike shop window is a indoor cycling setup. A turbo trainer on the back to change resistance when you ride, to imitate hills etc and a Wahoo Climb on the front to adjust the bike angle when cycling; raises and lowers the front forks. When used with a computer to control them and large tv, it’s an immersive experience. Very expensive, but as close to riding outdoor as you can currently get. It’s for road cyclists to train indoors over the winter months. The Quadlock is a great system. You get cases for most popular phones and cameras , they are simple to use, but they are a premium product. You can buy car mounts to use the special case in the car or motorhome etc. Halfords/Amazon/Decathlon will sell a waterproof(ish) case with a clear plastic cover on top, so you can see the phone screen for 1/4 of the price. The same shops also sell baskets for the front and panniers for the rear.

Actually the church from the start is now a performance venue (the Fullarton), used to be Presbyterian and not RC. Hazel's antiques has a lot of good stuff, we were able to buy a little bell from there! If yous are looking for a place to eat Moore's chippy is most excellent! They've even got a wall of sweets & chocolate that you can get deep fried in batter!! Yous should check out St Ninian's Church next time, it's just up from the caravan park and is really atmospheric, it also has a rare stained glass window of the Devil!
