If you're going with the oversized chair, I'd suggest adding a couple more props of the same scale in the room. If I were to come across that chair without knowing anything, I'd just assume the artist got the scale wrong, not that it's for a big character so I think it'd be a good idea to add some more environmental story telling so there's no question it's intentional.

Great stuff as always. Can't wait for this proper N64 resurgence mission. I don't know how this fireplace fits into the storytelling obviously. But something about the aesthetic made me think that it would be the perfect place to drip feed lore in the form of ministories via a storyteller(who possible has his own arc). Whatever you have planned. I am game.

this room feels especially eerie. good job I kind of hope we never get to see anyone sit on this chair, or even that whatever enemy or presence is in the room would be unlikely to sit there. no explanation, just a chair in front of a fireplace and no one to enjoy it.

It’s a delight to see new uploads from your channel! If I could make a request, I think adding bookshelves to line each side of the room would add some really subtle but fulfilling detail. It would also give the carpet that spans the room some more functionality and maybe aid the story too, giving the people of the parlour something to read.

if you want to go with an authentic look, 100% use gouraud lighting - using the vertex shader to set the colour of each vertex to some calculated light level, and using only that data in the fragment shader to actually shade the pixels. you don't get colours mixing together on faces, but you get colours mixing together at vertices, and blended uniformly across faces. that, paired with generic cubemap reflections (i.e., no baked cube map reflections - one cube map for all reflections in the game/scene), would make a very authentic look and feel.

Been watching this since the beginning, and I'm so impressed from the progress you've made! Love the way you explain the graphics and understanding some of the complexity that goes into something so seemingly simple. Making your own lighting must have been so much harder than just using the built-in! Have you gotten to a place to think about music yet? I'd love to chat and send you a copy of my demo reel if so. Always delightful to see a new video from you and awesome to see a new location. The castle seems to have a Japanese feel to it with it's large pillars and paper doors yet the Parlour room itself has a very Gothic fireplace. An interesting mishmash. 0:34 - The triangle breakdown of the chair is cool and I'm impressed with how smooth the texturing looks across it. Simple but smooth with good shading. 1:05 - I think this is the first time you've mentioned Alice in Wonderland being an inspiration behind this game. Interesting choice given the other aesthetic and styles so far presented. 2:11 - With said stretched and blurry textures I feel working well for the ominous vibe you want for the gargoyle fireplace. It helps with a grainy, stone look to it as well. Love the recycling through re-usage on the enemy masks. 4:13 - Despite being 2D, simply having that one smaller flame to the side manages to give it decent depth. 5:56 - Ah, I see you also enlarged that original doorway. I was thinking it was a tad too small when you first used it as an example to connect the rooms.

What could be kinda fun to do is to put a small coffee table next to the chair, and have the item on it change every now and then. I think it would be a good way to subtly give the player a sense of unease. Could be a drink at one time, a still-smoking cigarette another? Idk I just think it’d be neat.
