I think that because Iga had a fairly big chunk of existing support, and the ability to manage money and get non-kickstarter money in a way to not piss people off, the project will complete. I didn't back, and I mostly don't regret, because the marketing implies a 2d game, and I am not really interested in 2.5d for this.

I'm the pixel artist who made the animated and character art for Barkley 2. I'm hoping we'll be able to put out a demo showing what we've made at least, and maybe release the source code. The game is playable and mostly stable, has combat and quests and stuff, so there is at least something to see and explore, but content gets more sparse and incoherent after about 1-2 hours of play, and the combat has issues.

It had some neat concepts but for having a budget of 4M, the art looked pretty meh, the game bricked WiiU's, some people had major stability issues and they hired the worst people to market it. Has it been fixed? Probably. Were the gameplay ideas good? Well, good enough that IntiCreates copied the "touch enemies or get super close" mechanic for their newest GunVolt Spinoff.

It's hilarious to see people actually defending them because "well, they tried their best". Seems like they don't understand gamedev, nor do these actual devs. No, they pissed people's money away, money of which was given to them in blind faith. It's more like >$90k after KS fees, across 3/4 devs. They were far too ambitious going for a PC base w/ Mac port (= contract), additional animated cutscenes, lead concept art, contractors, legal + council, and licensing. Not to mention promised console/Linux ports. People loved the first game because it ripped off a bunch of jRPG shit and familiar mechanics from other games, the sequel really did not need a ton of overblown additions in order to be good. It's a fucking meme game at heart, nobody was out there hoping for a super serious sequel.

Ghost Song is now being published by Adult Swim and has rebooted for a second (third?) time. It's still in active development, the developer (Matt White) has been posting screenshots and video recently on Twitter (like two or three weeks ago), but its clear he's redone all the assets to be even higher-er resolution than they were previously. Drift Stage's main coder fell off the face of the planet years ago and Delkoduck (the artist/graphic designer) seems to be in the process of getting the rights so he can find a new coder. Both he and Myrone (the musician) are still super down to do the game. Delkoduck has expressed great remorse that Drift Stage never came to fruition, and a few months ago posted every known demo of the game to Itch.io.

This is always a problem with crowdfunding. Backers need to be smart with their money and know what they’re getting into and developers need to be 100% clear with their backers, deliver on promises and overall know what they’re doing. Developers also have a big responsibility to carry using crowdfunding platforms. Bad apples spoil the whole bunch as a lot of scams and disappointments have shown, Mighty No. 9 having dealt the biggest blow to video game crowdfunding. I think the only way crowdfunding is going to improve in the eyes of consumers is for there to be a level of accountability and consequence towards developers for failing to deliver on what was promised. After all, consumers are investing money into a project that most of the time doesn’t have anything more than concept art to show. That kind of trust is fragile. If backers are within their right to sue for a canceled project that they might have put a lot of money into then I say go for it. Whether or not they get anything out of that, a clear message needs to be sent to those that make crowdfunding projects, otherwise, consumers will continue to lose faith in crowdfunding and good honest aspiring developers wanting to use such platforms will continue to suffer for bad developers’ sins.

I backed a lot of Kickstarter video games in the past 7-8 years. I have about 5 confirmed scams, 5 dead games with no news, 5 dead games confirmed by the devs with no refund, maybe 2 or 3 that actually offered a refund for those that asked, a good 20 projets late but still being updated and probably a good 80 that actually released. (Even though a lot are released way past the expected deadline. I'm Glad Bloodstained is actually getting released and looks pretty much like what I expected because that was the most I spent on a project while the second most is, ouch, Project Phoenix. I always saw Kickstarter as a gamble, you usually pay less for a product that might actually be worst, like Mighty Number 9, but you also sometimes gets a couple gems, like Shovel Knight. If you account all of that, I would say Kickstarter itself is a 80% successful investment. Still worth it as long as you actually research a bit who and what you actually back and (usually) sometimes go for a safer lower pledge.

Charlie The Unicorn: The Grand Finale (Movie) - Who knows at this point, although Jason Steele is still talking about it and apparently still working on it, so I have hope for this one. Home Free (Video game) - Overdue by several years but we're still getting development updates on this one so who knows. Battletech (Video game) - Got it, plus an expansion and another two on the way. Exploding Kittens (Card game) - Got it. Reading Rainbow (Various educational materials) - Got it for my nephews and my niece, all good. Bear Simulator (Video game) - Got it. Bee And Puppycat: The Series (Cartoon series) - Got it. Little Witch Academia 2 (Anime) - Got it. Armikrog (Video game) - Got it. Shovel Knight - Got it. Limit Theory (Video game) - Dead, dead, dead, deader than dead. I've been meaning to demand my money back but I haven't yet. Anima: Gate of Memories (Video game) - Got it. Then I have three that either got canceled or I canceled my pledge. Fountain War (Novel) - A novelization of one of the big Eve Online wars, got canceled. Shenmue 3 - I canceled my pledge when I realized I didn't care that much about Shenmue, honestly. A Hat In Time - I canceled my pledge because I was broke at the time.

That game is out, dude. You can buy it on Steam. It's just that there's not much new content outside of the multiplayer, which is dead. But the game's $10 right now. They also dropped Team17 as a publisher so they're restructuring for releases, I think.
