Came to this realizing I've never actually seen an overview of Castles of Burgundy - just goes to show just how far Tom has built the Dice Tower!

Reading this in 2020 - he certainly found his voice now, but still the mannerisms are there :)

A few things: 1) The box Tom is holding is actually the only one I have seen with the title "Die Burgen Von Burgund" (German) on it. 2) I think many gamers are too hard when it comes to the issue of "theme" and sort of miss the point. It's not that games with 'pasted on' themes are acting like it is executed with the depth of a novel or film (!). It's just a fun idea to play with that perhaps has some points where, with a little imagination, one can say, "Yeah, I can pretend such & such ...". That's all. I like it. 3) Objectively, The Castles of Burgundy should make any short list of "Modern Classic Board Games" (like Ticket to Ride and a few others). I believe there's a reason for that.

"Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger. No Coke, PEPSI!" Yes, I am old. Anyway...I bought this a couple of days ago, and like it a lot. Not a BIG fan of the (standard for Euros) VP bonus tiles at the end of the game, but it plays fast and fun. Only two or three actions per player, so very little down time. Really good playing solo running two estates. No hidden information, so I don't have to pretend I don't know what the other player has. Glad I bought it.

I started building my own board game where you build up a castle with markets, blacksmiths, knights, etc specifically because I can never find good board games in a kingdom setting. The only ones that were even close to my idea were this and Castles of Mad King. So I have no idea how we're living in two different worlds, one with a lot of kingdom castle games and one with none.

Hi Joshua, have you completed your game idea? Is there a chance your game got published?
@Joshua_Tymchyn3 жыл бұрын
@@asura899 Unfortunately no. I've put many ideas to paper over the years, but I've never had the right crowd, nor the initiative, to play-test anything. Most of my gaming friends are content with simply playing games and not making them and I've never been one to meet up with strangers at a local gaming store to get my games closer to publishing. Thanks for checking in though...now I want to go design again. :)

@@Joshua_Tymchyn Your idea sounds interesting 👍 I'am curious how the final game would look like. Follow your ideas and I'am waiting for Toms Review about it ;)

Ah, the young days of Tom's illustrious history, with family talking in the background. Castles of Burgundy Special Edition is coming out, but what does Tom think of the base game? Let's see.

guess someone didn't know that burgundy was once a dukedom in the 15th century that even rivaled france in size and power.
@Randallsilver2 жыл бұрын
Burgundy is a region IN France, you 'Murican! 🤣🤦♂️🤣
@Dreadnote-pf7of5 ай бұрын
@@Randallsilver dude... but Burgundy WAS a duchy and, for example, played a pretty major role in Hundred Years' War. Yeah, now its a region, but this is just stupid to call someone " 'Murican " on stuff that you know little about. Again, in example Novgorod is part of Russia now, but it has its own history and impact on culture of the region and, for some time, it's rivaled Muscovy and who knows what country it could be if Novgorod would prevail. So... please, learn before you write, atleast a little. Or next you gonna say "Oh, Napoleon is a CAKE, how do you not know it".

Right on! Just tried the game last night as a 2er and really liked it. It seems so well balanced that we had a really close game. One comment though; to lay a tile you have to place it adjacent to a tile that is already on the board. Thanks for the review!

This one looks really innovative (other than the theme). It's sort of a combination of Yahtzee and Puerto Rico! May buy it, esp. as it is 2-player

I know this is somewhat minor but I am always interested to pronounce foreign expressions in an at least "acceptable" way :) So here it goes: Dee Boorgan phonn Boorgoont.

The "ur" in "Burgen" and "Burgund" is actually pronounced like the "oo" in for example "Michael Moore". Not like burgers in english :-)

No ... more of a weird kid thing to say. Most Americans would roll their eyes at that level of cornball humor.
