Your actions dictate your alignment, as it did with the corrupt priest in Season 1. Lisa was an upright person who spent her life trying to ease the suffering of others, endured false persecution, practiced radical forgiveness while in her worst agonies - her _beliefs_ pale in comparison to the fact that she is literally more Christ-like than the religious people who killed her in God's name. She didn't give it up. She can return at any time. But still she willingly chose to descend into hell to be with her beloved. It is her presence that is protecting Dracula from being preyed upon by the demons of hell as all damned souls are. This is in fact based on some IRL lore that suggests that a soul already in Hell can still be saved if someone from Heaven chooses to come down and save them.

What's most interesting to me is that on the journey we make through Hell, we go through those circles, PAST the frozen lake Cocytus, into a place that's not quite Heaven or Hell. If we're going with Dante's interpretation of the divine spheres, that means that both of them aren't so much in Hell as they are Purgatory, which means that while they both suffer, they are given the opportunity for the redemption of their souls. In Dante's Inferno, in order to escape Hell, you had to go to the deepest part of it, literally right past Satan himself, and that was the way to Purgatory and eventually Heaven. The water on the way to their ruined home wasn't frozen, which means it wasn't part of Cocytus (the lowest level) and thus wasn't Hell proper.

The blue demon said that God's love was not unconditional. From what we know of Lisa, she was a smart and kindly person who only wanted to use her knowledge to help people and shone some light on Dracula's dark, immortal life. Even as she died, she pleaded that the very people who killed her should be shown mercy, as she wanted either Dracula or Adrian (probably both) to be a better person than to stoop to the lows of the superstitious and fearful. She showed more goodwill and kindness as a person of science than the Bishop did as a supposed follower of God. I think it really says something that God loved Lisa enough that He gave her His literal blessing so that she could go from Heaven to Hell to be with her husband and that her presence still shines the light of The Lord.

Weather it’s cannon or not, I really like the theory that Lisa is in Hell to be with Dracula, that she decided to leave Heaven to go find him after seeing how far he has fallen. Not only is it on point for Lisa’s character to be that courageous, especially for her own husband, but it would explain why Lisa’s in Hell when in this series it seems like morality and good works are valued over faith, especially given the scene with the Bishop who even though he believed God and his symbols refused to protect him from Dracula’s demons. Plus it would explain why Dracula and Lisa’s little corner of Hell is not only shined with a heavenly light but seems to also be relatively Un disturbed by even Satan himself(you’d think Satan would be dying to start torturing someone as infamous as Dracula). But even if it’s not the cannon reason, I’d still like to believe that theory as it is a good one in my opinion

I've seen the explanations here and they pretty much confirm what I thought. I figured Lisa was there to be with Dracula. And being a soul from Heaven, Hell cannot harm her. Dracula is either powerful enough to scare away the other denizens of Hell or Lisa's presence allows them peace. Either way it's amazing to think they would be perfectly content to simply stay in that embrace until the End of Days.

If you played castlevania that unfortunately doesn't happen all the way till the eventual final battle with Dracula in 1999 with Julius Belmont. Spoilers for aria of sorrow and dawn of sorrow: after the events of 1999 Dracula's castle was sealed within a solar eclipse and his soul was reincarnated into a young man named Soma Cruz, coincidently a young lady was also born during this time and is the reincarnation of Elizabetha Conwell/Lisa tepes named Mina Hakuba. The final canonical appearance of Dracula is now Soma Cruz. As he is the the next candidate for the dark lord Dracula however soma defies his fate from becoming Dracula through the events of the 2 games. He succeeds in both. That's a very huge summed up version that's skips A LOT of details.

The frozen lake is where the Devil is imprisoned and where those guilty of betraying their lords and benefactors go. The broken down buildings is either the Malebolge(where liars are condemned to), or the capital of Hell, Dis. The sea is the river Styx where the condemned souls are ferried accross. The demolished church witn Dracula and his wife is Limbo, a false heaven that is devoid of God's presence and where those that did not believe or abandoned God go.

I question the righteousness of a god who would punish a soul for not being able to bear the suffering this world of his can unleash on them. The older I get, I just don't know if God is a benevolent force. The Hell depicted is very similar to Dante's vision in Divine Comedy. The river of boiling blood for those who are violent against others, and on either bank, the forest of suicides, for those who are violent against themselves. The frozen lake is the ninth circle of hell, reserved exclusively for traitors. The severity of one's betrayal determines how deep one is in the ice. Betray a distant friend and your head and shoulders may be free, betray the crown and you are several feet beneath the surface.

Lisa being in hell implies one of four things: 1: You have to be Christian to get into Heaven (unconfirmed if Lisa wasn't, but likely given her marrige to Dracula) 2: It's so hard to get into Heaven that if you commit a sin, no matter how small, you're sent to hell (i.e God is a bitch) 3: Anyone the church deems evil go to hell, no matter the sins (not likely, but a fun idea to toy with) 4: God sent Lisa down to Hell from Heaven so that she and Dracula could be together (this would explain why despite the numerous bodies of tortured sinners shown before them, Drac and Lisa are relatively fine)

You could say that God knew that Lisa deserved to go to heaven, but that Drac would absolutely go to hell (he's a vampire, he tried to kill humanity, etc.), so instead of seperating the two, God sent Lisa to hell so she could welcome Drac once he arrived. I think he knew that the two of them are happier together than apart, and chose not to seperate them in death

Damn, a short sequence, but I love how this depiction of Hell takes direct inspiration from Dante's Divine Comedy: 1st landscape: Either the Vestibule of Hell (between the Gate of Hell and the Acheron), where reside the souls of those who commited no good nor evil in life (the Uncommitted), or Limbo (1st Circle) where are placed the virtous pagans and the unbaptized children; 2nd landscape: Lust (2nd Circle), where the lustful souls are forever buffeted restlessly back and forth by a storm; 3nd landscape: Violence (7th Circle), most precisely we see the Phlegethont, the river of boiling blood (1st Ring: Violence against Neighbour), and the Wood of the Suicides (2nd Ring: Violence against Self); 4th landscape: Treachery (9th Circle), where the souls are forever bound in the frozen lake Cocytus;

With this scene, i wanted to see if i can make comparisons towards another interpretation of hell in Castlevania, which is "The Abyss" in Dawn of sorrow. (Different name, pretty much same premise) 1st scene: some landscape with red cracks at the bottom (presumably lava) possibly interpreting the lava/fire part in Dawn of sorrow (first part of the abyss) 2nd scene: Consists of statues and hard rock. No real resemblance to DOS 3rd scene: blood rivers and humans possibly turned into sharp trees. This could interpret two things. The spiked layer (6th part of the abyss) or could relate towards trapped souls room with flesh and bone (4th room before fighting Abaddon) 4th and onwards: a seemingly cold ice river, wet soil and dirt as well as houses across the dead plains. Easy answer towards the Ice section of the abyss (3rd room) and, this one could be a stretch with the wet soil and dirt, but could reference the second room which showcases quicksand (2nd room) So thats 4 out of 6 rooms referenced from Dawn of sorrow (presumably) The only rooms i couldn't find referenced is the 5th room (which consists of a massive space filled with stars and galaxies) and 6th room (consisting of numerous spikes)
