Essentially, they just raise more questions about how things came to be the way they were. You need to make the earliest chronological installment exceedingly detailed to eliminate the need to ever having a prequel.

It also shows Leon's determination, knowing Mathias was out there, and that he would need to be ready for when he returned, and that he and his kinsmen, his family, would have to be ready to hunt the night and all the creatures within it, even if it would be centuries before Mathias would return as Dracula and confront the Belmont clan.

I was trying to find information on that silhouette. But have found no information on the web mentioning who it is. And the game just forgets to mention (kind of expected in a castlevania game, really. They weren't really that polished in the plot hole dept.) At first I thought it was Joachim who had somehow survived because Leon hadn't used the vampire killed with him and was just waiting for him to leave his prison. Weakened as he was. But no. Too complex. Next I analyzed all models in the game and only Mathias seems to match, except from the fur lining at the neck in Mathias base model, because it hides his hair from the back, and the silhouette's hair is fully visible. Maybe it is him, just without the fur on his cape? Dunno.

I always wish that someday, the Demon Castle War FINALLY get adapted into game. And thus, we'll see the old Jonathan Morris, or either his descendant returning the whip to the Belmont Clan, in this case Julius, and then Julius fight the Dark Lord with Alucard, Hammer, and (perhaps) Yoko's father/mother, or perhaps there's Shanoa's descendant or an old Charlotte too. And when Dracula finally defeated for the last time, Julius will say "good bye Mathias!", saying one last farewell to the most bitter enemy of his clan, and the best friend of his ancestor. Please God.

IIRC Japan considers Castlevania's Death to be a simple chaos-spawned demon and _not_ the Grim Reaper incarnate (his japanese name is Shinigami, which means God of Death. Yes, like Death Note). /inb4whoosh

Technically, Mathias dont need to hide in foreign land. He can return to his domain and do business as usual. No one will suspect him on anything (not that anyone will dare to suspect him anyway). Even if Leon returns and warn the people, no one will hear him since at this point Leon is a nobody while Mathias still a respected noble. In fact this may be the reason why the Belmont clan become outcasted until Trevor's era. Mathias meanwhile, doing business as usual, manipulating everybody (and cursing God), and then he became Vlad Tepes we all known, led war against Ottoman, and the rest is history.

I think the person didn’t see the timestamp that showed Joachim and thought the op was referring to Mathias, who was hiding in the background during that scene watching Leon. Or was referring to Mathias’s VA, Crispin Freeman, who voiced Dracula in this game and in Hellsing. Edit: Either way, it seems they’ve corrected themselves.
