Listening to the album from start to finish, I really don't understand why Matador rejected it. Sure, it's different from the vast majority of her earlier work, but let's be real here -- "Wanderer" is far better than a lot of the music Matador is releasing these days.

@@grrrlrock Well, "Horizon" used the auto-tune for an effect during the harmonies and it gives it an interesting texture. She produced the album and it's a familiar approach, primarily relying on guitar & piano. However, her 2012 album "Sun" features a lot of auto-tune & synthesizers because she was told a lot of her guitar compositions were depressing. I'm surprised "Sun" was released by Matador due to the tension between her & the label at that time. But for Matador to question the release of "Wanderer" is curious; she mentioned that Matador wanted her to transition to music that was more like Adele, which is beyond bizarre for a label that has steadily embraced the independent & alternative sound. Adele is superb, but that's not what Cat Power does.
