It IS a great song... BUT the message in the end is actually terrible and traumatic. His Father wouldn't or didn't take the time needed to form a strong bond at the moments that his son needed him... asked for him. And then, as a young man and a grown man with his own kids, he can only show the same distance in return to his Father as he regresses into old age. We can ONLY hope that he doesn't carry on this horrible cycle with the kids that he has as well... seeing as they already have the flu. :)

Anyone else bugged by the end? the son did not grow up like him, his kids are sick so he can't visit. The son makes sure he has time to spend with the kids, the father couldn't spare 15 minutes to play ball with him. Oh, and I agree with Joe, it's a little fast

@cityghurl83 Possible . But if you look at the son's response it sounds like he's also busy with his job. And growing up in the verses when dad ignored him he would say "I'm gonna. be like him" .That is a key part to this. We may create different interpretations of the lyrics but i think that the story leads us to conclude that in the end, the son became like the dad.
