Glad you guys finally got to him.. One of the greatest singer-songwriters of the early to mid 70s who suddenly left music for his religion. Though he returned almost 40 years later.. Peace Train from this same concert is a must along with tons of others.. Nice review...

Left music for his religion, then publicly supported a Fatwah calling for the murder of Salman Rushdie because of a book he wrote (Satanic Verses). Not exactly a great move, really.
@easyrolling2 жыл бұрын
@@davidkulmaczewski4911 It's interesting how we remember only the bad things about someone. All I know is nothing ever came of that and I would still listen to his music in a heartbeat,. There are are tons of other artists that have done a lot worse things then he has done .. To be singled out for some statements.. (see Ted Nugent ). and that includes murder and other things (see Phil Spector) and we still listen..

@SteveBrownleesMusicPortal2 жыл бұрын
That's what I though too for the longest time, and when my daughter grew up and left home this song went through my head constantly. But as it turns out, the song was actually written about his split up with actress Patti D'Arbanville, who he dated for a few years. In fact he wrote a handful of songs about her including "Lady D'Arbanville. Even though it's about a break-up, when I hear it, I still think of it my daughter leaving home and it will always mean that to me.

After he finally returned to music, I don’t think he sings “Another Saturday Night”. I think on some of his songs he has altered the lyrics when he performs. Hearing “Another Saturday Night” as a naive kid when we’d listen to Cat Stevens on trips, the subject was miles above my head. I thought maybe he’s upset because he doesn’t have a friend to go with to the movies. “Oh Very Young” is a favorite of mine. One of the lines remind me of these jeans I had in college that I wore until they just fell apart one day.

His 1967 debut album and its title song "Matthew and Son" both reached top ten in the UK charts. Oh my God you guys that's hilarious. Yeah, this song and many of his were very popular when I was in junior high and this is always been one of my favorite of his although he has so many. His song Morning Has Broken is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and it was so popular, they even did it during church but I was a kid. But on the other hand, I remember listening to this in Sunday School because it appeared in that cult classic movie, Harold and maude. And plus it was on the radio all the time and I just really emotionally resonated with it as a kid. To me it's quintessential 1970s. And yeah I'm glad that he had the extra guitars and the acoustic bass guitar in the backing vocals for this live performance because yeah man anybody at the time that could play acoustic guitar would be able to play that at a campfire. But the way they did it there was much closer to the studio cut that was so popular on the radio. It's missing one thing though. And the studio cut, and those little chunk of chunka chunka sections there is a guitar line that's does all these really fast runs down into the next chord which I kind of missed in this.
