Thank you for running me through this. It's not as easy as an old truck or something like that.
@mrboom303 Жыл бұрын
It’s easier if you put something underneath the engine so you can raise it down slowly if you’re using engine mount, the engine will go sideways and it’s going to be hard for you to put the-bolt back on the
@Subjohny5 жыл бұрын
there are couple other bolts on a bottom to be removed before pull up the cat. left side engine mount remove too, slide engine a bit forward for more room. I did this job with my son. Purchased used cat for 180Cad. error p0420 is gone now!

My mother bought a 2013 Focus SE just 2 days ago, drove it home all was well, on the second day check engine light was on took it to Autozone and two codes were shown. One was a PCV vacuum leak which is typical in some plastic elbow with these cars, or so I've read the other was this one.;
@igotanimac15 жыл бұрын
The PCV vacuum leak is most likely causing the catalytic converter to fail. If you don't fix the vacuum leak before you install a new converter, it will destroy the new converter you install. The converter for the 2013 Ford Focus SE costs $250 + 4.5 hours of installation.

@@igotanimac1it's now 600 cheap or 1100 standard. Where did you find it for 250?
@igotanimac18 ай бұрын
@@jose2226 That was before the pandemic when raw materials for the converter were much lower. It's actually now $800-$900 for an original Ford converter. After market units with less filtration are $450.

This video didn't work for me. I was unable to remove from the top of engine. Had everything apart, engine pushed to the front, hoist, all of it. I will start on the subframe tomorrow

2006 focus (UK) : It was a real pain getting this out (& back in) for me but did eventually work (chipped my windscreen a little in the process ...doh - watch out for the heat shield nibs on the manifold as it curves out...). I had to remove a bracing bracket from top of strut, push the wiper motor assembly out of the way and even removed the cam cover to gain a few extra mm wiggleroom, used a long piece of 3x2 to lever the engine forwards, but it was pressing up against the fan/radiator at the front & still not enough room, even with top and bottom engine mounts removed. Finally graunched new unit in using more force than I would have liked. Wonder if removing subframe would have been easier !?

Can the whole assembly fit through the bottom? To take it out?
@dmncnito5 жыл бұрын
Roman Venegas no, there are too many components in the way.. it’s easier to use jack stands or hidraulics to support the engine from the bottom.. I too hate there engineers. 😭

Does the 2011 use the same cat?

This is why the dealer just quoted me $1200 to do it.. my 2012 with 205k miles isn't worth it.

Aftermarket catalytic converters specifically designed for the Ford Fiesta costs about $150. The factory converter costs $258.50. Installation by a dealer would take 4.5 hours. Which means total cost should be $710 part and labor for direct factory install and by a dealer. Or $500 parts and labor for an aftermarket converter installed by a non-dealer.

@@igotanimac1 quotes that i was getting in Kansas were $900 - $1100... bought the part for $200 from Rock Auto..
@igotanimac15 жыл бұрын
@@dacokc Most likely because they were charging about $500 for the part and $400-$600 labor. Did you get the Dorman Cat or the Original Factory cat? The Dorman cat costs $191 before tax and the original ford one costs $260 with no tax. Installation is about 3 hours, or about $400 depending on dealer rate.

How much they charge to fix that
@igotanimac15 жыл бұрын
Takes 4.5 hours. Dealer would charge $90-$110 an hour depending on if it's within the city or outside the city. So $400-$500 for labor and $250 for part + $90 for 2 oxygen sensors.
@ryanmcclure5804 жыл бұрын
I got quoted $1600 from the ford dealership. Other shops were about the same, maybe a couple hundred less. Still expensive. It's over $1000 more for somebody else to do it when you can get the part for a few hundred and not pay somebody.

Hey I have the same car and I'm having some issues and I believe it's because of the catalytic converter but I'm not really certain of it. How did you know it was bad? Im getting a P0420 code and my car will stall out randomly when idling, and when I turn it back on it stalls immediately again and I have to let it sit and cool off for about an hour. Do you think it could be the catalytic converter?
@jamesdoesyoutube6 жыл бұрын
It could be but I would dive into maybe some ignition issues as well. You can take it to a shop (or is you have a code reader) and they would be about to tell you if it is the cat or the O2 sensors. Just ask them that you want to know which one it is.
@egirlmars6 жыл бұрын
Jacob Day If it is stalling on you like that, that’s the transmission. These cars have a recall on them for the TCM (Transmission Control Module) if you go on Google and type in Ford Recalls, their website will show up in the results and you can see if your car has a recall by the VIN. Just got mine replaced about a month ago and it doesn’t stall anymore, but these cars have a defect in the transmission so it could happen again. Maybe not now, but later on. The plates are dry and it causes the transmission to stall out. I’ve been through hell and back with my Focus.
@ricks58765 жыл бұрын
@@jamesdoesyoutube it's likely the o2 sensor or cat, try the sensor 1st, it's much cheaper, I have the same code, dealer says it's the cat though.
