Catch and Cook Dungeness Crab / Surf Perch out of my Truck (Camping Meal)

In this episode i go Dungeness Crabbing with crab pots off the dock and while waiting we cast the shore for surf perch in Washington. We ended up doing a catch and cook on a legal crab and some perch and was a good day with the addicted angling guys, my first video of many from this trip

It’s a delicacy to eat the orange stuff in the top of the crab. Actually my favorite esp over some hot rice! Just boil the entire crab and then pop it open at the end

Growing up in WA, and only 20 minutes from Dungeness Bay, we used to go crabbing with the ring pots on the weekends. Sounds crazy, but spraying the raw chicken with WD-40 always brought more crabbies our way! We would only go in about 10ft of water and watch them crawl into the ring traps with this PVC pipe thing my Father built. Such good times! Fresh Dungeness crab in salt water with just drawn butter is soooo good! I had a friend give me 8 fresh crabs a couple weeks ago and they were soooo good! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’m with ya dude. My family has been on the California coast my entire life -Dungeness crab is a part of life. The Old Bay is fine, but I prefer just straight salt water boil. The crab have plenty of flavor -lemon/butter (post cooking) is all that’s needed. I also think crab is better than lobster.

So much to say here. First off that must of been embarrassing for whoever tied off the crab pots so high. Great they were considering the boats really. But if they had used a rope weight that wouldn't have happened. Oh well,live in learn. As to the crab who got you always turn them upside down. Don't know why but calms them down big time. Now as to the Old Bay and Dungeness, NEVER. You use Old Bay on lesser flavored crab you get elsewhere. What is so incredible about Dungeness is you don't need to make a " boil" for Dungeness. Just use seawater. The crabs on the east coast and the gulf are rather flavorless. They need seasoning to help. So on to surf perch. They are in the Washington and Oregon coast surf all year long. The reason you tend to see more fishermen in spring and summer is it's warmer. And most fishermen are salmon fishermen end of summer and though the fall up to early winter. Surf perch are great but what would you rather catch, surf perch or salmon? Not a hard decision. Good luck. I'm not taking many guests in 22' but if you're planning on getting out to Washington state ( I live in Southwest Washington state, on the Cowlitz river) in 2023 in the fall contact me. I have a fun challenge for you. How would you like to try to catch a salmon, a Walleye and a Sturgeon all on the same day on just one ri ver? I have lived on the southern oregon coast for 62 years now. And you cook the live crab whole. That way it flavors itself. You cook the whole crab for 20 minutes in boiling water. Then you take the back off. Clean out the guck. Then crack it in half. And take the meat out. That is how you do it for the best flavor. And those perch were tiny. We throw that size back to their mama. My hubby and I fish off the jetty at bastendorf in the Coos Bay. That is where we get big perch. And also good bottom fish like kelp greenling, rock greenling, sea trout, Cabazon, Ling cod. Sometimes crab. Caught a monkey face prickleback eel. That was cool. We fish using a line with 2 leads with hooks hanging down. And we use 2 used spark plugs for weights using rubber tubing to attach the plug in. That way it's not so expensive as you lose alot of weights. And we suck up sand shrimp (ghost shrimp) for bait. Never had any luck with those fake baits that you were using. Love to fish out there. Saw a killer whale while we were fishing one time. It jumped out of the water right in front of us, twice. There was only one other guy out there besides us that day fishing. We got a private sea world show! Love to fish! 🐟🐟🐟

I get Dungeness crabs from the lobster boats in point Judith Rhode island. 2019 they were selling the 10 bucks a dozen and they would also give you 16 or so..,very large dozen. Now mind you I love Dungeness crab and lobster but blue crabs are the best tasting sweetest meat. It's all good.

I wish I could eat raw oysters, but my brain tells me it taste bad, as do mussels, and most "cold" seafood (like smoked salmon, cold prawns etc) I have only been able to eat say oyster kilpatrick (must be the bacon and Worcestershire sauce masking the taste) and garlic prawns (hot) and well most cooked fish hot, otherwise they taste like salty horrible things, maybe one day my taste buds will change and I can enjoy them ;)
