Catch and Cook Trout Raised from Volcanic Springs!

On a beautiful day in sunny Northern California, Fisherman's Life and I take a trip and go fishing for fresh trout - not just any trout, but these are raised in the waters that come from the springs of Mount Lassen (AKA Lassen Peak), which is the southernmost ACTIVE volcano of the Western United States. These springs are thought to provide a key ingredient in the production of healthy, strong, muscular, and great tasting rainbow trout. The waters that spring from Lassen Peak are clear and cold, and run through at a higher velocity that make the trout healthier, stronger, and therefore, better tasting.
In addition to trout, I was surprised by hooking into a very nice striped bass (~28") in this lake. We end up catching and cooking these trout a couple of different ways. Be sure to check out Fisherman Life's channel for an upcoming episode on his portion of this really fun trip!
Follow me on Instagram @realdoutdoors
Instrumentals from a very talented producer, Ryan Little.
Hope you all enjoy this trip as much as I did!

Good video brother. Next time u cook cave man style try using hard wood instead of charcoal. Charcoal has chemicals in it lighter fluid. The flavor will be so much better using hard wood. My favorite is apple wood but any hard wood will work. Even drift wood wood be better than charcoal. Cheers from east coast fishing game and camp!!!!

Depends on the kind of charcoal. Yeah, Kingsfords has lighter fluid in it, dass why you let it burn down for a while. But there are traditional charcoals you can get. In Hawaii you can buy bags of locally made "kiawe" (acacia) charcoal.

Eating fresh fish caveman style ???? ... Hell ya !! ALL DAY !!! lol I can confirm that 'some' people eat their fresh fish without spices nor lemon , what better way to enjoy it's natural flavor . Cooking and eating it so soon after it's caught and on the fire like you did must be SOOOO delicious . Can't get any fresher than that !!

Looks great! I have always placed rocks over the very hot coals and then cooked the fish on the rocks. The rocks between the fish and the coals help it cook well and over fast. That's the way I have always understood how to do it. That fish looks good though.

Great video! Great idea, the natural flavors of fish can get lost in the abundance of flavor enhancers.. Those fish definitely taste great modified, but can taste just as good, if not better with no additives. Yum.

Finally KZbin has something good to watch again. Glad to see you are back! Nice catch and video! Was kinda sad that the skin was burnt. That is the best part for me. When is crunchy on the scale side but soft and oily on other. 😋

Love your show D! Hey buddy, my grandfather taught me a technique for gutting trout that is so cool it like opening a can of beer. One motion takes the two front fins and all the guts at once. Anyway buddy hit me up on FB under Joey Wright. Also, I live on a boat in the CA Delta, I'd love to take you and your boys out to catch some Salmon, Sturgeon, Strippers, Cats... whatever. I'm a fishing fiend and love what your doing brother, keep up the good work. All the best.

Were you using the Flueger president? I had problems with that reel too first time out. I spoke with another fishing buddy and he said that where the line comes off the spool is shaped flat, needs to be coned out not flat, so line comes off drastically, especially when you have light tackle, I got used to it after a few birds nest. then i changed it out to my shimano, and no probs...

Buddy, I don't know from personal experience because I don't eat fish, I just catch them, but when you gut the fish you're supposed to run your thumb down the bloodline in their spine and get rid of the blood or it could taint the meat. It was that dark line running right down the center of the fish when you held it upside down. I'm not criticizing you, it's just what I've been told since I started fishing.
